factoryDangote Cement has expanded its footprint in Africa as it commences operations on $160 million production plant in Ivory Coast. The plant is located in with the official launch of a new production plant in Attingué. The region is located about 30 kilometres from Abidjan, Ivory Coast. The plant covers an areas of about 50 hectares. Moreover, it boasts a production capacity of 3 million tonnes of cement annually. This makes it one of the group’s largest facilities outside Nigeria. It also highlights Dangote’s strategy of building a self-reliant Africa capable of transforming its own resources into finished goods.
”This strategic project embodies Aliko Dangote’s vision of building a self-sufficient Africa that is less dependent on imports and capable of transforming its resources into world-class finished products,” the company said in a statement. With this facility, Ivory Coast becomes the 11th African country to host a Dangote Cement production unit. The move also expands the group’s total installed capacity on the continent to 55 million tonnes per year. Dangote Group is venturing in various projects other than cement projects like the $2.5 billion Gode oil refinery plant in Ethiopia.

Moreover, according to projections the Attingué plant will create more than 1,000 direct and indirect job. Through this, it will offer a significant boost to local employment and small businesses. These includes transporters, suppliers and building professionals.
