railwayConstruction is continuing on the Boronia Station Upgrade, with major works progressing on the new station precinct ahead of its reopening in spring.
The station was temporarily closed in May to allow crews to begin widening the concourse and upgrading platform facilities as part of a broader project aimed at improving accessibility, safety and passenger amenity.
Recent works have included the installation of new passenger shelters, seating, toilets, lighting and sections of an upgraded waiting room. Cranes have been used to lift materials and equipment into place across the station platforms.
In the coming months, construction will continue on a new protective services officer facility and access ramps, while crews begin external cladding and roofing works on the new station building and ticket office. Foundations for new platform canopies will also be installed.
Works are also progressing outside the station precinct. Along Lupton Way, which remains closed until late September, crews have completed drainage upgrades and retaining walls and are constructing a new community plaza that will link the station forecourt with Dorset Road.
Boronia Station will remain closed until spring, with replacement buses operating between Bayswater, Boronia and Ferntree Gully stations.
Once complete, the upgraded station will feature an expanded concourse designed to improve connections across the rail corridor, along with a new forecourt canopy inspired by native flora from the nearby Dandenong Ranges.
The project will also deliver significant landscaping improvements, including the planting of more than 50 trees and about 3000 plants and shrubs throughout the station precinct, Boronia Station Reserve and the new public plaza.
The upgrade forms part of ongoing investment in Melbourne’s rail network to improve accessibility and create more attractive and functional station environments for passengers.
