Coates has expanded its engineered dewatering capability with a new fleet of electric BBA Pumps, helping contractors manage groundwater risks on projects ranging from residential excavations through to complex basement, water and civil infrastructure works.

The fleet includes PT200 D265 (8″/200mm), PT150 D185 (6″/150mm) and PT100 D130 (4″/100mm) electric pumps, providing a scalable solution for varying groundwater conditions, site constraints and project requirements.

According to Darren Browne, Sales Manager at Coates Engineering Solutions, the investment reflects growing demand for low-risk dewatering solutions in constrained urban environments.

“This investment strengthens our ability to deliver engineered dewatering solutions that help customers manage risk, maintain productivity and adapt to changing site conditions,” says Darren.

Managing groundwater in challenging environments

Contractors working on basement excavations and enabling works often face variable groundwater conditions, settlement risks to neighbouring structures, strict noise controls, brownfield site constraints and limited access for equipment and personnel.

The electric pump range enables Coates to combine specialist equipment with engineering expertise to help customers manage these challenges while maintaining compliance and productivity.

“On many urban projects, successful dewatering isn’t simply about moving water. It’s about managing groundwater drawdown, protecting neighbouring assets, controlling settlement risk and maintaining compliance with environmental and community requirements,” says Darren.

“Having a scalable electric pump fleet gives us the flexibility to tailor solutions to site conditions as they change.”

Suitable for diverse dewatering applications

Designed for both vertical and horizontal dewatering applications, the new pumps are suitable for a wide range of projects, from smaller excavation works through to complex basement construction and major civil infrastructure projects.

Using positive displacement piston pump technology, the pumps are fully self-priming, capable of handling air, water or a combination of both, and can run dry without damage – providing reliable performance in changing groundwater conditions.

The range includes:

With vacuum capability of up to 9.6 metres, the pumps are designed to perform across a wide range of groundwater conditions.

Low noise, low emissions

The electric drive configuration provides significant advantages on urban and brownfield sites where noise, emissions and community impact are key considerations.

Low-noise canopy designs help minimise disruption to surrounding residents, businesses and site operations, while eliminating on-site diesel emissions associated with traditional pumping systems.

“Electric dewatering solutions are becoming increasingly important, particularly on urban sites where noise restrictions, sustainability targets and community expectations continue to increase,” says Darren.

“These pumps give customers the performance they need while reducing many of the challenges associated with traditional diesel-powered equipment.”

Backed by engineering expertise

The new fleet complements Coates’ broader dewatering and water treatment capability. With a specialist team of Geotechnical, Chemical and Environmental Engineers, product specialists, project managers and technicians, Coates delivers end-to-end groundwater management solutions including engineering design, installation, commissioning, monitoring, project management and compliance support.

“The equipment is only part of the solution,” says Darren. “What really makes a difference is combining the right pump technology with engineering expertise and practical site experience. That allows us to develop dewatering solutions that are reliable, flexible and tailored to the specific risks and constraints of each project.”

For contractors delivering basement excavations, enabling works and civil infrastructure projects, the expanded fleet provides access to scalable, low-risk dewatering solutions backed by specialist expertise.

“Ground conditions can change quickly, particularly on urban projects,” says Darren.

“Our role is to help customers respond with the most suitable equipment, engineering support and operational flexibility. By combining specialist dewatering equipment with engineering expertise, we can help customers manage groundwater effectively while keeping projects moving.”
