Tata Steel is in discussions with the Dutch government to finalise a transition plan for its IJmuiden steel plant in the Netherlands. The move is aimed at meeting stricter environmental norms while keeping the plant commercially and technically viable.

The IJmuiden facility, with an installed capacity of around 7 million tonnes, remains a key part of Tata Steel’s European steel operations. The company is focusing on low-carbon steelmaking, better production efficiency, lower fixed costs and improved product margins.

Tata Steel is also working with stakeholders to build a long-term pathway for Tata Steel Nederland that supports cleaner production and operational resilience. The transition is expected to strengthen the company’s green steel strategy while aligning with Europe’s evolving emission standards.
