waterA new 12-megalitre water reservoir servicing 21,000 future residents on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland has been opened by Unitywater.
The reservoir will supply 7800 homes in the new community of Harmony through a 2.6km pipeline.
“We provide essential, safe, reliable and sustainable water and wastewater services, and this asset is part of our broader Aura and Harmony capital delivery program to cater for these growing communities,” Unitywater chief executive officer Anna Jackson said.
“An interesting design feature of this project is its construction, which comprises 40 concrete panels – all of them poured on site – that were raised up and pulled together with steel cables, the same technique used to make a wine barrel.”
The Harmony water project is part of Unitywater’s broader Aura and Harmony program, which will see a new wastewater pump station, 27.6km of water and wastewater pipelines and two large water reservoirs constructed, providing essential services for more than 71,000 future residents of Aura and Harmony.
A broader $2 billion program is being rolled out to support “unprecedented” population growth across the Moreton Bay, Sunshine Coast and Noosa regions.
The first phase of this will see two wastewater pump stations upgraded and 3km of pipeline laid to support 26,000 people, while the second phase will support around 100,000 residents through the installation of a new pipeline connected to the South Caboolture wastewater treatment plant.
While McConnell Dowell carried out the Harmony reservoir build, Unitywater has contracted Abergeldie, Downer, Dormway and Elevate – a joint venture between Aurecon and AECOM – to complete the $2 billion of works.
