Poland has finalized the location for its new central airport, to be built in Baranow, between Warsaw and Łódź. Infrastructure Minister Dariusz Klimczak called it a key step toward creating Europe’s most modern airport.
The decision concerns areas in three communes: Baranów, Teresin and Wiskitki (2,339 plots; 2.600 hectares of land) and opens the way for the company to submit applications for building permits.
The airport, expected to open in 2032, will handle up to 34 million passengers annually. The project, including infrastructure upgrades, is estimated to cost €30 billion. An expansion of the national airline LOT is also planned. A high-speed rail system will be established.
