Deborah Camp is a professional muralist, graphic designer, artist, author, and educator, locally based in Queens. She was hired to create a festive atmosphere for the employees of American Airlines, and she has done just that, having recently completed the painting of Christmas window murals at American Airlines Building 79 and American’s Hangar 10 at JFK International Airport.
Over the years, Camp has painted window, wall, and menu chalkboard murals for various commercial clients and seasons, with themes that create a space that is colorful, inviting, and that offers an engaging visual narrative upon windows and walls – including spaces that are currently under renovation.
“I customize my murals according to my client’s ideas. I show them a sketch after discussing the concepts and once my client picks out the design of their choice, I hand paint the design on the surface,” said Camp. Ms. Camp has shared her visual art, writing, and poetry with the community at local Queens shows, channeling her passion for the arts to encourage everyone to follow their dreams.
Spreading the cheer that mural art can bring to the airport, Camp’s murals at JFK International, as with much of her previous shows, are about nurturing the inner child in all of us and about the importance of keeping alive a sense of wonder while looking at the world through a lens, or in this case, glass… to find inspiration in everything that is around us.
