Foothill Gold Line Construction Authority

board has awarded the construction manager contract for the

Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority

(L.A. Metro) A Line light-rail extension to a joint venture between Skanska USA, Stacy Witbeck Inc. and Herzog Contracting Corp. (SSH).

The 2.3-mile extension will connect Pomona with a new station in Claremont. The project is currently in the final design phase, led by Parsons Transportation Group, construction authority officials said in a press release. The new contract includes authorization for $6.3 million to be used for the initial 18-month pre-construction phase, during which SSH will support Parsons’ design efforts by providing constructability reviews, value engineering, third-party coordination and cost estimating.

Once the project design is about 85% complete, SSH will have the opportunity to negotiate a contract to build the project, construction authority officials said.

With this award, the A Line extension is on schedule for construction to begin in late 2027; the construction authority projects it will take about four years to complete.

The construction authority is an independent agency created by the California State Legislature in 1998 to plan, design and build the L.A. Metro A Line system.
