Aurrigo International and Aviation Solutions have confirmed plans to roll out self-driving baggage handling technology to airports around the world, following successful trials at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.

The two companies began working together in 2024. After a year of testing under the Royal Schiphol Group, Aurrigo’s Auto-DollyTug® and Auto-Sim® systems have now been approved for wider use across Aviation Solutions’ global network of more than 60 airports.

Aurrigo’s Auto-DollyTug® is an electric, self-driving vehicle that combines the jobs of a baggage tug and a luggage cart. It can move sideways, turn on the spot, and load or unload cargo on its own using robotic arms. It is already being trialled at six airports worldwide.

Meanwhile, the company’s Auto-Sim® software allows airports to test new technology in a virtual setting before installing it in real life. This includes planning where charging stations for electric vehicles might go, or how driverless vehicles would work alongside current systems.

Auto-DollyTug® is arguably one of the biggest innovations to hit baggage and cargo handling for more than four decades and the aviation world is starting to take notice of what they can achieve through our autonomous vehicles and advanced technology.

Aviation Solutions helps airports adopt new technologies that have been tested in real airport environments.

More than 65 organisations currently work with Aviation Solutions to bring new ideas into airports. The next step in this partnership will be to introduce Aurrigo’s technology to other airports interested in automation.

Aurrigo International is a true front-runner in the field of autonomous ground handling technology. Our partnership marks an exciting milestone in our effort to bring proven innovations from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol to across the world.

We collaborate with partners and airports to innovate, faster. To be able to provide airports solutions we guarantee will work with a 100% confidence level. I’m very excited that Aurrigo is now also part of that movement.

The announcement, made at Passenger Terminal Expo in Madrid, reflects a growing interest in using smart, low-emission vehicles to improve efficiency and reduce the environmental impact of airport ground operations.
