Denver International Airport (DEN) has unveiled plans for the final phase of its Great Hall Program, which will complete the full build-out of the Jeppesen Terminal to meet future growth and infrastructure needs. The program aims to modernise the terminal to enhance the travel experience for both current and future passengers. The project is expected to be completed in 2027, on time and under budget.

DEN CEO Phil Washington remarked: “It’s rare to have an opportunity to reconstruct a major airport terminal and to modernise and reimagine it for the needs of today’s travellers as well as travellers of the future. The final phase will result in an iconic space inspired by the natural beauty of Colorado designed to leave a memorable first and last impression.”

The new design focuses on creating a welcoming, stress-free environment for travellers, incorporating authentic Colorado culture. Key elements include bringing the outdoors inside and ensuring the space is durable, flexible, and adaptable for future needs.

The design for North Level 5, known as the Global Gateway, will cater to international passengers, adding eight new security lanes to improve the travel experience for those connecting through Denver. This area will also feature the return of “Spirit of the People,” DEN’s art installation celebrating Native American history in Colorado, as well as the statue of Elrey Jeppesen, the terminal’s namesake.

The Centre Level 5 area, called Welcome Home Colorado, will be where domestic travellers arrive. This space will offer ample seating, a large flight information board, and a centralised information booth, providing a spacious and bright area for passengers to meet family or friends.

South Level 5, known as the Living Room, will offer a high-energy environment with comfortable seating, dining options, and security lanes for passengers arriving via the RTD A-Line. A bar will serve Colorado craft beers, and the food court above will provide a variety of dining choices. The Living Room will be highlighted by “The Stars and the Cottonwood,” a 60-foot-high public art sculpture by Donald Lipski, and a performance space showcasing live music.

Construction will begin on the south end of the terminal in May 2025, with the East Security Checkpoint opening in August 2025. The Great Hall Program is set for completion by 2027.
