Vivian Kar-fay Cheung has been appointed the new permanent CEO of Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK).
Unanimously endorsed by the AAHK Board and approved by the Chief Executive of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the appointment will be effective from April 7, 2025, for a term of three years.
She was appointed chief operating Officer of AAHK in December 2022 and has been doubling up as acting CEO since 1 June 2024.
Her appointment was made after a nine-month process comprising a global search and stringent assessment of candidates from different background.
AAHK chairman and former airport CEO, Fred Lam, said: âVivian has a stellar career at the airport and made history by being the first home-grown CEO from within AAHK.
âShe will will work closely with the Board in mapping the strategic directions for the airport in the next crucial phase of its development and realising our vision of developing HKIA into an Airport City that is aimed to be an economic engine of growth for Hong Kong and the region.
âI am confident that with her unwavering focus and resolute professionalism, Vivian, together with her team, will take HKIA to new heights.â
Thanking the Board and the Government, Cheung noted: âIt is a great honour to be appointed CEO at HKIA, one of the best airports in the world. I am humbled by the task and responsibility that awaits me.
âThe global business environment is increasingly challenging, but I am full of confidence in the future of our aviation industry.

Travelers Can Now Enjoy Bengals Bar & Kitchen At Cvg AirportErlanger, KY (April 4, 2025) â Bengals Bar & Kitchen, the first and only Cincinnati Bengals branded restaurant and bar, held a grand opening ceremony at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) on Friday, April 4.
A ribbon cutting took place during Fridayâs celebration after remarks were made by Bengalsâ director of strategy and engagement, Elizabeth Blackburn, SSP Americaâs chief executive officer, Pat Murray, and CVGâs chief executive officer, Larry Krauter. Ben-Gal cheerleaders and Who Dey, the Bengalsâ mascot, added cheer to the event.
Bengals Bar & Kitchen is a football-themed restaurant with Bengals breakfast, starting line-up appetizers, half-time handhelds, field goal greens, entrĂŠes, and a wide variety of rotating beer and cocktails.

The SMS Manual provides a structured framework to proactively identify, assess and mitigate safety risks across all airport operations.

Birmingham Airport Invests In Terminal InfrastructureBirmingham Airport (BHX) is investing ÂŁ10.6 million in infrastructure upgrades to ensure a smoother and more efficient travel experience for its customers.
As part of its previously announced ÂŁ100 million capital expenditure plan for the period up to 2033, the airport is focusing on improving services for arriving passengers.
The first project, which will see a ÂŁ4.2 million investment, involves the addition of a new baggage carousel.
This new carousel will complement the existing six in the ânorthâ departure baggage area.
With passenger numbers at Birmingham Airport steadily increasing, the demand for additional baggage capacity has become more pressing, the airport said.
The new carousel is expected to be ready in time for the busy summer travel peak.
The second phase of the development targets improvements for passengers arriving in the 'south' arrivals area. This includes a full reconfiguration of the area to expand both the immigration and baggage reclaim sections.
The project will add three more primary control points operated by UK Border Force, bringing the total to eight. This expansion is aimed at future-proofing the introduction of E-gates, which will further streamline the passenger processing experience.
Additionally, existing baggage carousels will be upgraded to accommodate more bags, enabling the airport to handle up to eight arriving flights per hour. This second phase of development will cost ÂŁ6.4 million.
Al Titterington, terminal operations director at Birmingham Airport, explained the importance of these upgrades: âBirmingham Airport was the airport of choice for over 13m customers to the end of the financial year. With forecasts of up to 13.8m passengers this year, we want to ensure we provide the best possible customer service."
He continued: âLast year investment was focused on the outbound customer journey but with these projects the emphasis is providing the right welcome to the region, with increased baggage capacity and additional immigration desks to be resourced and operated by our Border Force colleagues as well as catering for the increased outbound demand. By investing in these areas, we can adequately cater for the increase in customers and ensure we are on our way to hit our 13.8m target this year.â

Vienna Airport has signed a new agreement to support Ukrainian airports, focusing on rebuilding efforts and strengthening infrastructure. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed between Vienna Airport and the Association of Airports of Ukraine of Civil Aviation (AAUCA), aims to foster professional exchange and provide technical assistance.
Julian Jäger, joint CEO and COO of Vienna Airport and President of the Austrian Airports Association (AĂV), signed the agreement alongside Petro Lypovenko, President of AAUCA. The signing took place during a delegation visit to Ukraine, attended by Johanna Mikl-Leitner, Governor of Lower Austria, and other high-level Austrian and Ukrainian officials.
âEven though the current situation is very difficult for the Ukrainian airports due to the war, the airports are already dealing with the challenges of restoring the infrastructure and resuming regular flight operations throughout the country once this conflict hopefully ends soon. As Vienna Airport, we want to support them in this endeavour within the framework of our cooperation agreement,â said Jäger.
As part of the partnership, Vienna Airport will donate specialised vehicles and technical equipment to strengthen Ukraineâs airport operations. The agreement also aims to explore synergies and joint market opportunities.
The MoU was signed during a business delegation from the Federation of Austrian Industries of Lower Austria, which visited Ukraine from 31 March to 2 April 2025. The mission included talks with key Ukrainian ministers, a visit to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, and a trip to Hostomel military airportâsite of the 2022 battle during Russiaâs invasion.
Vienna Airportâs involvement, including its stake in nearby Kosice Airport, underscores its role as a logistics hub and a partner in Ukraineâs post-war recovery.

Southampton Airport launches an AI-powered assistant offering real-time support, enhancing navigation, accessibility, and overall passenger satisfaction across the terminal.

Southampton Airport has introduced a cutting-edge digital assistant, powered by Hello Lamp Post, to improve passenger experience ahead of the busy summer season. The AI-driven platform, now live across the airport, delivers real-time information and helps travellers navigate the terminal with ease.
The technology was first trialled at sister airport Glasgow in partnership with Connected Places Catapult, with a focus on passengers requiring special assistance. The pilot showed impressive results:
Building on this success, Southampton Airport worked closely with Hello Lamp Post to expand and refine the tool, making it available to all passengers. Accessible via QR codes throughout the terminal, the assistant acts as a personal concierge, offering tailored support, real-time flight updates, and wayfinding assistance.
The initiative is part of Southampton Airportâs ongoing commitment to accessibility and passenger service. The airport recently earned the Civil Aviation Authorityâs highest âVery Goodâ rating in its Annual Accessibility Report.

Dublin Airport To Invest In Expanding Its Onsite Solar FarmDublin Airport has committed to a significant expansion of its onsite solar farm, resulting in more than 20% of the airportâs annual electricity needs coming from renewable solar energy by 2030.
Operator, daa, made the announcement today at the official opening of Phase 1 of Dublin Airportâs solar farm by Minister for Transport Darragh OâBrien TD.
Phase 1 saw the installation of more than 15,000 solar panels by Greenvolt Next, one of Irelandâs leading providers of renewable energy solutions, on a 28-acre site located close to the south runway and visible from the R102.
The solar photovoltaic (PV) panels are a clean and renewable energy source, converting sunlight directly into electricity using PV cells and emitting no greenhouse gases or pollutants.
Now operational, the 9MWp solar farm is expected to generate 7GWh to 9GWh per annum dependent on weather conditions, which is 10% to 13% of Dublin Airportâs annual consumption.

This is sufficient to cover the electricity needs of the entire airfield, with excess electricity contributing to the energy needs of the airport terminals and campus.
Todayâs announcement of a commitment to Phase 2 will see the airport campus further reduce its impact on the national electricity grid as part of a wider pipeline of renewable energy projects.
Subject to planning permission, Phase 2 envisages the staged deployment of an additional 6,000 solar panels by late 2027.
This is sufficient to fully power the baggage systems in Terminals 1 and 2 and means a further 4% â 6% of the annual electricity needs of Dublin Airport will come from renewable energy generated onsite.
Welcoming the development, Minister OâBrien said: âIâm delighted to officially open Dublin Airportâs solar farm. Investing in renewable solar energy and exploring the potential of geothermal sets Dublin Airport up for the future and helps the airport meet its commitment to reducing its emissions by 51% by 2030.
âDublin Airportâs announcement today of its commitment to expanding its solar farm is very welcome.â
Vincent Harrison, daaâs chief commercial and development officer, noted: âInvesting in solar reduces Dublin Airportâs reliance on the national electricity grid and boosts our onsite energy generation capabilities.
âContinuing to invest in modernising Dublin Airport so our terminals and airfield operations are as sustainable as possible is a key part of our âŹ2 billion Infrastructure Application, which also asks to increase the passenger cap to 40 million a year.
âAs the recent power issues at Heathrow showed, ensuring critical national infrastructure has resiliency in the event of power disruption is essential to avoid significant knock-on impacts. We will continue to invest in sustainability and infrastructure projects that set Dublin Airport up for the long term.âairport

London Luton Airport will expand passenger capacity to 32 million, creating 11,000 jobs and boosting the economy by ÂŁ1.5 billion annually while prioritising sustainability through a Green Controlled Growth framework.
London Luton Airport (LLA) has received Government approval to expand its annual passenger capacity from 19 million to 32 million, unlocking ÂŁ1.5 billion in economic benefits per year and creating up to 11,000 new jobs. The growth plan, led by airport owners Luton Rising, includes a legally binding Green Controlled Growth framework to manage noise, carbon emissions, air quality, and surface access.
LLAâs operator, London Luton Airport Operations Limited (LLAOL)âjointly owned by Aena and InfraBridgeâwelcomed the decision. Alberto Martin, CEO of LLA, described it as a âgenerational opportunity to transform the town and our regionâs economy.â He emphasised the need to finalise a commercial agreement with Luton Council to ensure the expansion proceeds swiftly.
Since 2013, LLA has undergone rapid growth, with passenger numbers nearly doubling. Over this period, LLAOL has contributed ÂŁ0.5 billion in concession fees to Luton Rising, funding local community projects and frontline services. The expansion will further enhance Luton Councilâs ability to invest in public services.
Rodrigo Marabini Ruiz, Director of International Subsidiaries at Aena, noted that increasing capacity by 70% sustainably requires âspecialist skills and expertise,â which Aena, as the worldâs largest airport operator, is ready to provide. Graeme Ferguson, Head of Airports at InfraBridge, highlighted the public-private partnershipâs role in delivering âexceptional outcomesâ for the airport, airlines, and the local community.
Paul Kehoe, Chair of Luton Rising, described the approval as a pivotal moment: âAt a new capacity of 32 million passengers per year, our scheme will deliver up to 11,000 new jobs and an additional ÂŁ13m annually for community projects and good causes.â He emphasised that the Green Controlled Growth framework represents the UKâs most extensive commitment to sustainable airport operations.
Rachel Hopkins, MP for Luton South and South Bedfordshire, welcomed the decision: âThe growth of London Luton Airport will boost Lutonâs economy by creating jobs, enhancing skills, and supporting our charitable sector.â She positioned the expansion as an example of how a Labour Government would stimulate economic growth while remaining environmentally responsible.
LLA is one of the UKâs busiest airports, handling 16.7 million passengers in 2024. It operates flights with airlines including easyJet, Wizz Air, Jet2, Ryanair, TUI, FlyOne, Sun Express, and El Al.
As part of its commitment to sustainability, LLA achieved Level 4 in the Airport Carbon Accreditation scheme in 2023, demonstrating alignment with global climate goals. The airport has also ranked as a sector leader in the Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB) for three consecutive years.
Connectivity improvements, such as the Luton Airport Express, allow passengers to reach LLA from central London in 30 minutes, with the DART (Direct Air-Rail Transit) ensuring a seamless transfer from Luton Airport Parkway station to the terminal in under four minutes.
LLA was named European Airport of the Year (10-25 million passengers) by ACI EUROPE in 2023, reflecting its strong performance, sustainability efforts, and passenger experience.

Airports Council International backs Auckland Airportâs $6.6 billion investment, highlighting its transparent consultation process and economic benefits while dismissing allegations of unfair pricing as misleading.

Airports Council International Asia-Pacific & Middle East (ACI APAC & MID), representing over 600 airports across 45 countries, has expressed strong support for Auckland Airportâs (AKL) $6.6 billion infrastructure investment. The association welcomed the New Zealand Commerce Commissionâs recent decision on the airportâs 2022-2027 pricing event, confirming the development plans are well-justified and in line with global best practices.
ACI APAC & MID emphasised that Auckland Airportâs pricing proposal was formulated through a rigorous and transparent consultation process involving all aviation stakeholders, including airlines. The Commissionâs findings confirmed that the pricing adjustments bring target returns within the recommended regulatory range.
Welcoming the decision, Stefano Baronci, Director General of ACI APAC & MID, stated: âACI APAC & MID stands firmly with Auckland Airport and its commitment to developing infrastructure as we believe their plans are in the best interests of the airport, airlines, passengers and communities they serve. The Commissionâs assessment confirms that the airportâs plans are both justified and essential for the airportâs future growth and the countryâs long-term socio-economic development.â
He further dismissed criticism of Auckland Airportâs pricing as âbaseless and misleading,â affirming the effectiveness of the regulatory framework.
ACI APAC & MID also stressed the importance of non-aeronautical revenuesâsuch as retail, food, and beverageâwhich help maintain airport financial sustainability and keep air travel affordable.
The association reaffirmed its full support for Auckland Airportâs transparent and well-managed approach, which continues to deliver value for passengers, airlines, and New Zealandâs wider economy.

New Routes Should Trigger Traffic Growth At Copenhagen AirportA total of 2.28 million passengers passed through Copenhagen Airport in March, exactly the same number as last year, when Easter fell in March.
The Danish gateway believes it marks the start of a good year for passenger numbers ahead of what is expected to be a busy Easter and summer 2025 during which its airlines will offer 315 direct routes from Copenhagen to destinations around the world.
âThis year, Easter falls later than it did last year. Despite this, we experienced a keen desire for travel in March. A lot of people want to travel â including tourists visiting Copenhagen and other parts of Denmark,â notes Peter Krogsgaard, Copenhagen Airports A/Sâs chief commercial officer.
Danes make up 35% of passengers at Copenhagen Airport. The rest are other nationalities, with Swedes, Americans, Brits and Norwegians making up the majority of travellers.
Some 6,163 million passengers passed through Copenhagen Airport in the first three months of 2025 â 6% more than in the corresponding period a year ago.
New routes
The airport notes that the number of destinations serviced from Copenhagen will include 31 new routes this summer, the bulk of them operated by SAS.

âThe airlinesâ summer programme is full of exciting new destinations,â enthuses Krogsgaard.
âWe are very pleased that the airlines choose to establish new routes out of Copenhagen Airport, and that several of the routes are even to brand new destinations in Scandinavia, Europe, North America and Asia.
âThis gives travellers from Denmark and southern Sweden more travel options around the world and â just as importantly â gives foreign tourists and business travellers from around the globe easier access to Copenhagen and the rest of Denmark.â
The vast majority of the new routes are to destinations in Europe, which make up more than 85% of the total traffic from Copenhagen Airport.
However, four of this summerâs new routes are to further afield destinations, with Delta Airlines launching a service to the US city of Minneapolis and SAS opening new routes to Seattle, Nuuk and Seoul.airport

New Shopping And Culinary Offering Opens At Nuremberg AirportSmartseller NĂźrnberg today opened a new shopping and culinary world at Nuremberg Airport.
Described as an innovative concept that offers passengers a unique shopping experience and culinary highlights, it was developed in a joint operation of Nuremberg airport and smartseller.
After several months of renovation, the airportâs duty-free shopping area has been expanded from 650 to around 1,100 square metres. The renovation was carried out in several stages to minimise the inconvenience to passengers.
Sebastian Schäfer, managing director of Smartseller NĂźrnberg, said: âFrom the very beginning, it was important to us to offer our guests a range of products with a local flavour. The diversity of Nuremberg and Franconia can be experienced particularly well here.â
Refined Wine Bar and a Fully Equipped Beer Garden

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey today announced that its commercial airports recorded their third-busiest February ever as 9.6 million air travelers used the airports during the month. The Port of New York and New Jersey was the nationâs second-busiest cargo gateway in February 2025, moving 20 percent more total TEUs than in pre-pandemic February 2019. The agencyâs bridges and tunnels recorded a decrease in traffic compared to the prior year. On the PATH commuter rail system, ridership fell from 70 percent of pre-pandemic levels throughout January 2025 to 64 percent of pre-pandemic levels due to the 25-day closure of Hoboken station in February.
Airports:
Over the first two months of the year, the Port Authorityâs commercial airports served 20.3 million passengers. This was an increase of approximately 6,000 passengers during the first two months of 2025 over the same period of 2024, which was the busiest year ever for the agencyâs commercial airports.
The Port Authorityâs commercial airports recorded their third-busiest February of all time in February 2025, despite a larger number of winter storms compared to February 2024 as well as the benefit of a leap day in February 2024 that added 3.6 percent to that monthâs total volumes. The agencyâs airports welcomed approximately 9.6 million passengers in February 2025. When adjusted for the extra day in February 2024 due to the leap day, passenger volume in February 2025 wouldâve been on par with the prior year.
Port of New York and New Jersey:
The Port of New York and New Jersey reinforced its position as one of the nationâs premier cargo gateways, finishing February 2025 as the second-busiest U.S. port for loaded TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units). The port handled a robust 464,253 loaded import and export TEUs during the month, a 7 percent jump over February 2024.
Overall, February 2025 marked the portâs second-busiest February ever, behind only the pandemic cargo surge in 2022. The port handled 699,240 total TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) in February 2025.
Tunnels, Bridges and Terminals:
The agencyâs six vehicular crossings served 8.5 million eastbound vehicles in February 2025. This was a decrease of 6.4 percent from February 2024. Taking out the additional calendar day in February 2024 due to the leap year, February 2025âs volume would have been down 3.1 percent from the prior year. Vehicle traffic was also reduced due to a greater number of winter storms in February 2025 than in February 2024. These factors, among others, make the impact of the Central Business District Tolling Program difficult to analyze until more data is available.
PATH Commuter Rail:
Following January 2025 in which PATH ridership reached 70 percent of January 2019 levels, the PATH commuter rail system saw ridership fall in February 2025 to 64 percent of pre-pandemic February 2019 levels due to the closure of Hoboken station. The station closed on Jan. 30 and re-opened on Feb. 25 following critical infrastructure repairs and improvements.
The system welcomed 3.9 million total passengers in February 2025, which was a decrease of 5 percent from February 2024. Average weekday ridership in February 2025 was 169,747 passengers, a 1 percent drop from February 2024. Passenger activity in February was reduced largely due to riders finding alternate modes of transportation during the 25-day closure of the Hoboken station for critical infrastructure repairs and improvements. Following its reopening on Feb. 25, ridership began returning to January levels.airport

Bradley International Airport has achieved Autism Double-Checked certification, ensuring better support and reduced stress for travellers on the autism spectrum.
The Connecticut Airport Authority (CAA) is proud to announce that Bradley International Airport (BDL) has become the first airport in the United States to receive âAutism Double-Checkedâ certification. This certification signifies that BDL has achieved the highest level of autism-readiness, ensuring its staff are specially trained to support travellers on the autism spectrum, reducing stress and providing thoughtful assistance throughout their journey.
âWe are proud of this certification and for becoming the first Autism Double-Checked certified airport in the country, which will hopefully become a standard for all airports moving forward,â said Michael W. Shea, Executive Director of the CAA. The training focused on how airport environments can be stressful for individuals on the autism spectrum, addressing sensory needs and ways to assist both travellers and companions effectively.
Alan Day, Founder and CEO of Autism Double-Checked, stated, âNavigating an airport is one of the most challenging parts of a trip for individuals on the autism spectrum. With this certification, BDL is setting an example for other airports on how to improve the travel experience for all travellers.â
This certification coincides with BDLâs upcoming Autism Flies event in April, in collaboration with Autism Double-Checked and Breeze Airways. The event gives families the chance to practice the full airport experience, including check-in, TSA security, and boarding. Registration is required.
Breeze Airways and BermudAir, both operating at BDL, have also earned Autism Double-Checked certification, reinforcing the airportâs commitment to creating an accessible and supportive environment for all passengers.

Hong Kong International Airport recognised over 870 staff members at the Customer Service Excellence Programme, celebrating exceptional service and dedication to passengers.

Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) reaffirmed its commitment to service excellence by celebrating the efforts of airport staff at the annual Customer Service Excellence Programme (CSEP) awards. This year saw overwhelming participation, with over 60 organisations submitting nearly 430 nominations, recognising over 870 colleagues and teams. The ceremony was officiated by Vivian Cheung, Acting Chief Executive Officer of Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK).
âThe Customer Service Excellence Programme was set up with the goal of encouraging our colleagues from different organisations to offer excellent customer services and promote the culture of doing so. The passion and dedication are truly inspiring. Let me congratulate all the award winners again and wish you all to continue to strive for excellence and to innovate, delivering the best airport experience to all visitors,â said Cheung.
AAHK also announced the formation of the Customer Service Excellence Steering Committee, a 20-member group dedicated to promoting customer service, including sharing best practices and frontline staff training. Steven Yiu, Executive Director of Airport Operations, will chair the committee.
This yearâs top honours included the âBest Customer Service of the Yearâ in the Individual Excellence Awards, presented to Benny Wong of Cathay Pacific Airways for his dedication in assisting a passenger in distress. The Corporate Excellence Award went to Cathay Pacific Airways for their exceptional care in ensuring a childâs safe travel. Three AAHK staff members received the âOutstanding Customer Serviceâ award for locating a missing cat, while the Cross-Company Excellence Award was given to teams from AAHK, Cathay Pacific Airways, and Plaza Premium Lounge for aiding a collapsed passenger.
The CSEP Awards, launched in 2002, continue to recognise outstanding service by individuals, teams, and companies at HKIA.

Tucson Airport Authority Promotes Becca CammackTucson, Arizona â The Tucson Airport Authority (TAA), operator of Tucson International Airport (TUS) and Ryan Airfield (RYN), is pleased to announce the promotion of Becca Cammack to Deputy Chief of CERCLA/NEPA Programs.
In her new role, Ms. Cammack will develop, direct, and manage the airportâs environmental remediation programs regulated under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), to include those falling under the evolving regulatory landscape of PFAS. Ms. Cammack will also provide guidance in the analysis of environmental impacts under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). In partnership with TAAâs legal team, Becca will liaison with airport operational departments to advise on the approach and delivery of TAAâs environmental goals and priorities.
Prior to joining the TAA, Ms. Cammack had over 25 years of technical environmental experience, in addition to roles in project management, scientific writing, and technical editing.
Ms. Cammack is a graduate of the University of Arizona, San Diego State University, and Northern Arizona University. She holds degrees in Geology, Rhetoric and Writing Studies, and Water, Society and Policy.airport
