Section 4 of the Batang Toru Hydro Electric Power Plant's dam in Indonesia, built by POWERCHINA, has completed full capping work. This milestone signifies major construction progress for Indonesia's largest hydropower plant and showcases the strength and expertise of Chinese enterprises in overseas infrastructure development.

The plant is located in the mid-lower reaches of the Batang Toru River in southern North Sumatra, approximately 400 kilometers from Medan. It consists of four generating units, each with a capacity of 127.5 MW, bringing the total installed capacity to 510 MW. The plant is expected to generate 2,230 GWh of electricity annually and has been hailed as Indonesia's "Three Gorges Project".

The dam features a roller-compacted concrete gravity arch structure with a crest length of 137 meters and a height of 74 meters. Divided into six sections, the dam required approximately 205,000 cubic meters of concrete.

Since the first concrete pour on Nov 17, 2023, POWERCHINA has meticulously planned construction procedures, optimized resource allocation, and ensured efficient site management. Over 493 days of continuous effort, POWERCHINA achieved a daily concrete pouring record of over 2,000 cubic meters and a peak monthly volume exceeding 24,000 cubic meters.

The station will utilize clean, renewable hydropower, significantly improve Sumatra's coal-dominated energy mix, conserve coal resources, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. It will also contribute to environmental protection by mitigating air pollution. The project will also create over 4,000 jobs, strongly boosting the local economy.
