London Gatwick Airport has partnered with technology provider Veovo to develop a new Integrated Airport Control (IAC) System, aimed at improving operational decision-making through predictive analytics and data integration.
The initiative is part of Gatwick’s move towards Total Airport Management, a model that leverages data and automation to anticipate and respond to operational demands. Central to this development is the creation of a Virtual Control Room—an interface designed to consolidate key information, including real-time data, performance indicators, and alerts.
The IAC system will integrate information from multiple parts of the airport ecosystem, including airlines, air traffic control, immigration, ground handling, and security. It is intended to give all stakeholders a shared and current understanding of airport operations, enabling a more coordinated response to emerging issues.
Developed with support from Veovo’s technology partners, Amorph Systems, the platform is being rolled out in phases. Initially developed for specific use cases, it is now being scaled to more than 35 operational areas within the airport.
The future of airport operations lies in predictive decision-making. With Veovo, we are building a system that provides a clear operational picture and proactively guides the right actions to minimise disruptions and enhance efficiency. This is about building fantastic passenger journeys, optimising resources, and improving on-time performance.

Edmonton International Airport (YEG) has officially unveiled its new sensory room, an immersive space designed to support passengers with sensory sensitivities, including autism, anxiety and other cognitive or neurodivergent challenges.

Located post-security near Gate 49 in the domestic-international departures lounge, Edmonton International Airport’s new sensory room—developed in partnership with Autism Edmonton—offers a quiet, calming space where passengers can relax away from the busy airport atmosphere.
Inside the sensory room, passengers will find a quiet space with:

Working with the guidance of Autism Edmonton, we designed our sensory room to offer respite for neurodivergent passengers, including those with autism, anxiety or other sensory processing challenges. Naples Airport Authority Survey To Measure Community SentimentNAPLES, Fla. (April 14, 2025) – The Naples Airport Authority has commissioned a scientific survey of area residents to collect detailed community feedback on airport operations, location and other key issues to help better chart the historic site’s future course.
The survey measured opinions among more than 1,400 Collier County voters selected by random sampling who were interviewed by telephone and text from mid-March to early April. The survey was conducted by American Pulse, an independent research and polling firm.
“Measuring community sentiment towards the Naples Airport is an important step in planning for the future,” said Chris Rozansky, Naples Airport Authority executive director. “The results of this survey will equip our governing board with valuable information to better serve our community.”
The survey includes questions about respondents’ attitudes towards the airport’s effect on quality of life, the economy, a possible relocation, and public services among other topics. Copies of the survey questionnaire can be found here.
Survey results are expected to be presented at the April 17 meeting of the Naples Airport Authority Board of Commissioners.

Vie And Bradford Airport Logistics Launch JvBradford Airport Logistics and Vienna Airport have joined forces to establish “Vienna Airport Logistics”, a new joint venture set to redefine how goods are delivered through the airport. Effective 2027, all flows of goods for the Terminal 3 Southern Expansion and all passenger areas will be routed through a centralised logistics hub to more than 100 shops and restaurants. The corresponding agreement on the joint venture was officially signed by Benjamin Richter, founder & chairman of Bradford Airport Logistics, Philipp Ahrens, senior vice president centre management at Vienna Airport and Julian Jäger, joint CEO and COO of Vienna Airport. Philipp Ahrens will assume management responsibility for Vienna Airport Logistics in addition to his role as senior vice president of centre management at Vienna Airport.
“The new infrastructure will comprise the logistics backbone of our terminals. We are professionalising the entire supply of goods at the airport – centrally, securely and tailored to the dynamic requirements of an international flight hub. In this way, Vienna Airport is also setting new quality standards for logistics,” said Jäger.
“Incorporating centralised logistics infrastructure is foundational to delivering safe, efficient, and seamless experiences for passengers. We're proud to bring our global expertise to this transformative project with Vienna Airport,” added Richter.
The cornerstone of the new logistics concept is a centrally located logistics centre encompassing an area of about 6,000m², which will bundle all deliveries to the terminals in the future. The building is directly connected to the airport apron, thus enabling secure and efficient deliveries to retail partners and operational stakeholders. Every delivery will be systematised within the logistics centre, reviewed for safety, consolidated and handed over to the respective areas of use in a timely and efficient manner. As a result, a streamlined, standardised, and clearly regulated process will be created for the benefit of the entire airport terminal complex.

From 7 May, US passengers must show REAL ID-compliant ID at TSA checkpoints or face delays and possible denial.

Starting 7 May 2025, the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will enforce the REAL ID Act, requiring all airline passengers aged 18 and over to present a REAL ID-compliant form of identification or an acceptable alternative, such as a passport, at TSA security checkpoints. This measure aims to enhance security by making fraudulent IDs harder to forge, thereby thwarting criminals and terrorists. Passengers without compliant identification may face delays, additional screening, or be denied entry through security checkpoints.
“Secretary Noem and the Trump administration are enforcing the 2005 REAL ID Act and regulations on May 7, as directed by Congress and the American people,” said Adam Stahl, TSA Senior Official Performing the Duties of the Administrator. “The Real ID requirement bolsters safety by making fraudulent IDs harder to forge, thwarting criminals and terrorists. TSA will implement REAL ID effectively and efficiently, continuing to ensure the safety and security of passengers while also working to minimise operational disruptions at airports.”
Currently, 81% of travellers at TSA checkpoints present acceptable identification, including state-issued REAL IDs. The TSA anticipates this number to increase as the deadline approaches. To obtain a REAL ID, individuals must visit their state’s Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and provide documentation proving their full legal name, date of birth, Social Security number, lawful status, and two proofs of address. REAL IDs are typically marked with a star in the upper right corner.
The REAL ID Act, enacted in 2005 following the 9/11 Commission’s recommendation, establishes minimum federal security standards for state-issued IDs. While enforcement has been postponed multiple times, the upcoming deadline marks a significant shift in policy. The TSA will continue to provide additional screening for non-compliant individuals until it no longer presents a security risk. Additionally, REAL IDs will be required to access federal buildings after 7 May.

Denver International Airport Maintains Global Position As Third Busiest Airport In North America In 2024DEN also maintains its position as sixth busiest airport in the world
DENVER – April 14, 2025 – Today, Airports Council International (ACI) released preliminary rankings for the world’s busiest airports in 2024. Based on total passenger traffic, Denver International Airport (DEN) ranked as the third busiest airport in North America for the fourth year in a row and the sixth busiest airport in the world for the second year in a row.
DEN maintained both its national and international rankings due to continued capacity growth by its largest airline carriers, the expansion of frequency by current carriers, as well as new carriers adding service. In 2024, DEN welcomed four new airlines including Aer Lingus with service to Dublin, Ireland, and Turkish Airlines with nonstop flights to Istanbul, Türkiye. In February, DEN received international recognition for excellence in aviation route development during 2024 and was named the Overall Winner at theRoutes Americas 2025 Awards.
“We remain focused on carrying out our Vision 100 strategic plan to prepare the airport for an eventual 100 million passengers, which includes a focus on expanding our global reach. In the last year we welcomed new airlines and new routes as well as expanded service from existing airlines,” DEN CEO Phil Washington said. “Maintaining our ranking as the third busiest airport in North America further demonstrates our dedication to strengthening our position as a global hub and our airport’s continued, thoughtful growth.”
2024 was a record-breaking year for DEN, with more than 80 million annual passengers traveling through the airport for the first time in its history, a 5.8% increase over 2023. International passenger traffic growth outpaced overall passenger traffic growth during the year, surging by 15.0% as compared to 2023. Total international passenger traffic exceeded 4.6 million in 2024, a 46.2% increase over pre-pandemic 2019. All 12 months set new records for international passenger traffic.
In addition, DEN also ranked as the fourth busiest airport in the world in terms of aircraft movements, recording an increase of 4.9% over 2023. Only Atlanta, Chicago/O’Hare and Dallas-Ft. Worth recorded more aircraft takeoffs and landings than DEN.

Nashville International Airport Marks Successful Launch Of Aer Lingus’ First Nonstop Flight To DublinAer Lingus Flight to Dublin Takes Off with Music, Dance, and Festive Flair
Nashville, Tenn. (April 12, 2025) – Nashville International Airport® (BNA®) hosted a lively and immersive celebration on April 12 to commemorate the successful launch of Aer Lingus’ inaugural nonstop flight connecting Nashville (BNA) to Dublin (DUB). As BNA’s newest airline partner, Aer Lingus brings expanded international connectivity and world-class service to Middle Tennessee travelers. The event not only underscored Nashville’s growing role in global air travel but also immersed attendees in Irish culture with captivating live performances and festive decor.
The celebration featured an esteemed lineup of speakers, including Josh Powell, Assistant Vice President of Airline and Government Relations at the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority; Bill Byrne, Senior Vice President of Global Sales at Aer Lingus; Amy Seigenthaler Pierce, Ireland’s first Honorary Consul in Tennessee; Frank Groome, Consulate General of Ireland, Atlanta; Mark Ezell, Tennessee Department of Tourist Development Commissioner; Bill Hagert, United States Senator (Tennessee); Freddie O’Connell, Mayor of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County; and Deana Ivey, President and CEO of the Nashville Convention & Visitors Corporation. Aer Lingus gifted BNA a model airplane in exchange, marking the occasion and their shared commitment to connectivity.

The gate area was beautifully transformed with vibrant decor featuring striking green uplighting. A festive balloon photo backdrop welcomed guests, while a Celtic-themed stage, elegantly draped in green pipe-and-drape accents, added an enchanting touch to the celebration. A green carpet in the boarding area provided a grand entrance for passengers, enhancing the celebratory atmosphere. A stunning display of Celtic-themed cupcakes, each adorned with a custom-designed sticker, added a charming touch to the celebration. A commemorative photo with the balloon backdrop provided a lasting keepsake of the celebration.

A captivating Irish dance troupe wowed attendees in the Market Place, their rhythmic movements and lively footwork creating a thrilling spectacle, highlighted by striking balloon columns. Adding to the festive atmosphere, talented musicians performed traditional Irish melodies, filling the space with the rich sounds of Celtic music.
Embracing the shared passion for country music between Ireland and Nashville, the event featured impersonators of country music legends Dolly Parton and Tim McGraw. Their presence blended Nashville’s signature charm with Ireland’s deep-rooted admiration for the genre, highlighting the rich musical connection between the two destinations.
The celebration wrapped up with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a warm send-off for passengers embarking on the inaugural flight. Travelers were gifted specially curated bags filled with Irish and Nashville-themed souvenirs, adding an extra touch of excitement to their journey.
Aer Lingus’ new nonstop service bridges Music City and the Emerald Isle, enhancing global connectivity while fostering cultural and economic exchange. The 8.5-hour flight will be operated four times weekly—Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday—by a state-of-the-art Airbus A321XLR, offering passengers a convenient gateway to Ireland’s breathtaking scenery and celebrated culinary traditions. Additionally, travelers can enjoy seamless connections through Dublin to major European destinations such as London, Edinburgh, Rome, Amsterdam, Paris, Manchester, and Berlin, opening doors to even more international adventures.

Casper / Natrona County International Airport Records 8,138 Enplanements In MarchCASPER, WY – Casper / Natrona County International Airport announced that 8,138 enplaned passengers (passengers getting on aircraft) used the Airport in March. The March number is a 14.5% increase compared to March of 2024.

Orlando International Airport (Mco) Receives Emergency Management AccreditationMCO only airport system in the world to attain unique designation
ORLANDO, Fla. – Orlando International Airport (MCO), operated by the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (GOAA), has received accreditation through the prestigious international Emergency Management Accreditation Program (EMAP), remaining the only airport system in the world to achieve the highest emergency management standard.
“The plans are in place, the processes check out, and Orlando International Airport is well prepared to respond to an emergency in line with established emergency management practices,” said Lance Lyttle, Chief Executive Officer of GOAA. “As the only airport to achieve this accomplishment, MCO continues to lead the industry when it comes to the safety of the traveling public.”
To obtain EMAP accreditation, applicants must demonstrate that its program meets the Emergency Management Standard through self-assessment, documentation, and peer assessment verification. It is designed to be flexible so a variety of agencies and companies can tailor it to their needs, risks, resources, and size.
All agencies seeking accreditation are judged against the program’s 64 industry-wide standards, which assess and cover a variety of areas including Program Management, administration and finance, prevention, communications and warning, training, and incident management, among other areas.
“This incredible honor is a testament to GOAA’s ongoing commitment to the fundamentals of world-class emergency management operations and public safety,” said Keila Walker-Denis, Vice President of Airport Operations, which oversees Emergency Management.
“Congratulations to all of the programs that have recently received EMAP accreditation and those that have maintained their accreditation status. We commend their dedication to their communities and stakeholders and their commitment to excellence,” stated Angee Morgan, Deputy Director of the Kansas Division of Emergency Management and EMAP Commission Chair.
GOAA first started the process to achieve the EMAP accreditation in 2017 and received its first approval in 2020, just as the pandemic began. According to ACI’s figures, the Top 10 busiest airports – representing 9% of global traffic (855 million passengers) – witnessed a gain of 8.8% from 2023 and a gain of 8.4% vis-à-vis their 2019 results (789 million pax in 2019).
Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport easily held on to its top position, followed by Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW).
The biggest jump in the Top 10 rankings was recorded for Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG), which soared from 21st position in 2023 to the 10th spot in 2024.
The jump, notes ACI World, was fuelled by expanded visa policies, the resumption and expansion of international flights, operational enhancements, and the recovery of the Asia-Pacific region, particularly China.

The yearly passenger total represents an increase of 9% from 2023 or a gain of 3.8% from pre-pandemic levels (2019).
Navigating global uncertainty
ACI World notes that 2024 saw global passenger growth face significant uncertainties that stemmed from evolving economic and geopolitical landscapes.
Ongoing supply chain challenges and production delays from aircraft manufacturers, as well as geopolitical tensions, posed a risk to growth opportunities by potentially altering flight routes, increasing operational costs, and affecting passenger sentiment.
Additionally, the threat of tariffs raised concerns about potential disruptions to global trade, which indirectly affected international travel demand and increased constructions.
It predicts that in 2025, global passenger traffic will reach 9.9 billion with a 4.8% year-over-year growth rate.ACI World states: “While passenger demand remains strong, the pace of expansion is expected to slow as markets shift from recovery-driven surges to structural, long-term growth patterns.
“Key challenges such as economic uncertainty, geopolitical tensions, and capacity constraints are expected to increasingly shape the industry’s trajectory.
“In advanced markets, demand stabilisation, supply chain bottlenecks in aircraft production and airport capacity shortage may temper growth, while in emerging markets, higher infrastructure investment and rising middle-class travel demand will likely continue to drive expansion.

Airports Council International (ACI) World has revealed its 2024 preliminary rankings of the world’s busiest airports, highlighting their resilience amid global uncertainty. Despite ongoing geopolitical and economic challenges, these key international hubs have retained their top positions and are poised for continued growth.

ACI’s data estimates global passenger traffic in 2024 to reach nearly 9.5 billion, a 9% increase from 2023 and a 3.8% rise from pre-pandemic levels in 2019.
The top 10 busiest airports, handling 855 million passengers in total, represent 9% of global traffic. They recorded an 8.8% increase on 2023 figures and an 8.4% increase compared to 2019.
Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport maintained its position as the world’s busiest, followed by Dubai International and Dallas Fort Worth International.
Shanghai Pudong International Airport made the biggest leap in the rankings, climbing from 21st in 2023 to 10th in 2024. This rise is attributed to China’s relaxed visa rules, expanded international flight schedules, and the region’s broader recovery, alongside operational improvements.
Istanbul and New Delhi International Airports also showed continued momentum, driven by airline growth, infrastructure expansion, and increased global connectivity. Both airports have significantly outperformed their 2019 performance, demonstrating the sustained strength of emerging aviation markets.
As airports continue to evolve and rebuild from the pandemic, ACI World emphasises the importance of robust infrastructure and collaboration in meeting the demands of a dynamic global aviation landscape.

Nashville International Airport® (BNA®) celebrated a major milestone with a special gate event to mark the launch of its new partnership with Icelandair and the airline’s inaugural nonstop service to Keflavik (KEF). The occasion brought together prominent city, state, and airport officials, underscoring the significance of this collaboration in enhancing international connectivity and reinforcing BNA’s position as a global gateway for Middle Tennessee.
Distinguished speakers, including Doug Kreulen, President and CEO of the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority (MNAA); Tomas Ingason, Chief Commercial Officer of Icelandair; and Svanhildur Hólm Valsdóttir, Ambassador of Iceland to the United States, shared remarks highlighting the significance of this new air service. Tennessee Department of Tourist Development Commissioner Mark Ezell, Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell, and Deana Ivey, President and CEO of the Nashville Convention & Visitors Corporation, also took the stage to emphasise the economic and tourism benefits of the partnership between BNA and Icelandair.
To commemorate the partnership between BNA and Icelandair, Doug Kreulen presented the airline with a custom-made guitar, symbolising the collaboration and shared commitment to expanding international travel opportunities. The celebration continued with a ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring the Icelandair flight crew and the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority Board members.
“The launch of Icelandair’s nonstop service from Nashville to Iceland is a defining moment for BNA, expanding global connectivity and elevating Music City’s status as an international gateway,” said Doug Kreulen, president and CEO of BNA. “This partnership not only strengthens ties between Middle Tennessee and the Land of Fire and Ice but also unlocks new opportunities for travelers, businesses, and tourism. We are proud to welcome Icelandair and look forward to the lasting economic and cultural impact this new route will bring to our region.”
Passengers boarding the first flight to Keflavik received gift bags filled with Icelandic Skyr snacks, Puffin cookies, mini-Iceland flags, Icelandic bottled water, Nashville/Iceland Hatch Show Prints, and mini travel guide postcards—offering a taste of both Iceland and Music City.
“We are very pleased to start this new service between Nashville and Iceland and for the great reception we are already seeing from customers in Nashville, in Iceland as well as from across the Atlantic. This new connection links Music City to Iceland and our 39 destinations across Europe, said Tómas Ingason, Chief Commercial Officer of Icelandair Group. “Today, we also announce an expansion to our partnership with Southwest Airlines, allowing travellers to connect between Southwest and Icelandair via Nashville and Denver onwards to Iceland and Europe. This is additional to the already announced Baltimore gateway. We look forward to welcoming Nashville and Southwest customers aboard.”
The gate area was transformed into an immersive Icelandic-themed experience, featuring blue up lighting, a balloon photo backdrop showcasing the Icelandic flag, and a blue carpet for guests. A stunning ice sculpture complemented a grand balloon arch surrounded by a live bluegrass performance. An LED-lit stage provided the backdrop for remarks, reinforcing the “Fire and Ice” theme of the event.
Entertainment included a stilt walker from the Fire and Ice performers, live musical performances by Friends of Bluegrass and Will Davenport, and a commemorative photo booth with an Iceland-themed balloon backdrop. Guests indulged in Northern Lights cupcakes adorned with custom-made Icelandic stickers while admiring an intricately carved ice sculpture.
This inaugural flight signals a significant expansion in air travel options for both business and leisure travelers in Middle Tennessee. After several months of renovation, the airport’s duty-free shopping area has been expanded and now offers passengers a unique experience.

Smartseller Nürnberg has officially unveiled a new retail and culinary destination at Nuremberg Airport, offering travellers a fresh and immersive experience. Developed in collaboration with Nuremberg Airport, this innovative concept combines standout shopping with curated dining highlights.
Following several months of phased renovations designed to minimize disruption, the duty-free area has been significantly expanded—from 650 to approximately 1,100 square meters. The result is a spacious, modern environment that elevates the passenger journey through both retail variety and culinary appeal.
Sebastian Schäfer, Managing Director Smartseller Nürnberg, said at the opening: “From the very beginning, it was important to us to offer our guests a range of products with a local flavour. We are therefore delighted to have so many strong partners from the region who perfectly complement our concept. The diversity of Nuremberg and Franconia can be experienced particularly well here.”

The new shop design features an extensive range of culinary offerings spread over several culinary islands. Passengers can look forward to a refined wine bar and a fully equipped beer garden, highlighted by a striking light installation composed of beer bottles. In addition, a variety of seating options provide the perfect place to relax, enjoy freshly brewed coffee and charge your smartphone at the same time. The concept integrates the elements of spa, lounge, kitchen and sense of place (Franconia and Nuremberg). The experience is complemented by panoramic views of Nuremberg and Franconia.

Asq Airport Experience Awards: Going The Extra MileAirports across the globe have been recognised for their customer service excellence in ACI’s ASQ Airport Experience Awards, writes Joe Bates.
ACI World’s 2024 ASQ Airport Experience Awards have revealed last year’s top performing airports for the delivery of outstanding customer service.
The roll of honour includes airports handling less than two million passengers per annum up to some of the biggest hubs on the planet, such as Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta (ATL), which welcomed 87.8 million and 108 million passengers respectively in 2024.
Dakar Blaise Diagne (DSS), Casablanca Mohammed V Airport (CMN) and Marrakech Menara Airport (RAK) were the star performers in Africa and Salalah Airport (SLL) and Muscat (MCT) in the Middle East.
In the ultra competitive rest of the world, the 2024 winners included Guangzhou Baiyun (CAN), Incheon (ICN) and Delhi-Indira Gandhi (DEL) in Asia-Pacific; iGA Istanbul (IST) and Rome Fiumicino (FCO) in Europe; Chihuahua (CUU), Guadalajara (GDL) and Quito (UIO) in Latin America-Caribbean; and Toronto Pearson (YYZ), LaGuardia (LGA) and Tampa (TPA) in North America.
The awards are viewed as the benchmark for excellence in airport customer experience as they are decided by passengers interviewed at airports on the day of travel.
Carried out in partnership with travel technology company Amadeus, the 2024 awards covered six different categories – Best Airports by Size and Region; Most Dedicated Staff; Easiest Airport Journey; Most Enjoyable Airport; Cleanest Airport; and Top Airports for Arrivals.

With the exception of the global Top Airports for Arrivals category – which was shared by Bengaluru-Kempegowda (BLR), Bahrain (BAH), Mangaluru (IXE) and Abu Dhabi’s Zayed International Airport (AUH) – all the ASQ categories were regionalised.
Commenting on BAH’s success in the Top Airports for Arrivals Award, Bahrain Airport Company’s CEO, Mohamed Yousif Al-Binfalah, noted: “This ASQ Award is a testament to the dedication and hard work of the entire BAC team and our valued partners.

North America
The Best in Size and Region category for North America followed a similar pattern to recent years in terms of the winners.
ATL, DFW and YYZ, for example, again triumphed in the Over 40mppa; LaGuardia (LGA) in the 25-40mppa; and Dallas Love Field (DAL) and Tampa (TPA) sharing the honours for airports handling 15-25mppa.
“Travelling through DFW isn’t just about getting from one place to another – it’s about experiencing exceptional service at every step,” stated DFW’s executive vice president for revenue management and customer experience, Ken Buchanan.
“The ASQ award reflects our team’s dedication to making every journey smooth, enjoyable and memorable for our customers. This continued recognition from our customers highlights the impact of our investments in innovation, infrastructure and people – which together create exceptional airport experiences every day.”
While ATL’s interim general manager, Jan Lennon, noted: “This award is a reflection of the dedication of our incredible airport team, whose passion and commitment make ATL a world-class gateway for millions of travellers.
“Every journey that begins or ends at ATL is shaped by the hard work and hospitality of our employees. This recognition fuels our mission to set new standards of excellence, ensuring that every passenger who walks through our doors experiences exemplary customer service.”
Other big winners were Gerald R Ford International Airport (GRR) and Greenville-Spartanburg (GSP) and Portland International Jetport (PWM), which in addition to repeating their success in the Best in Size category, jointly shared all the other awards for airports in North America handling between 2-5mppa.
GRR’s president and CEO, Tory Richardson, said: “We are delighted to once again receive these ASQ awards, acknowledging our efforts to offer a world-class guest experience at the Ford International Airport.
“In 2024, we experienced record growth with more than four million passengers served and are beyond grateful to our staff and partners for helping provide an exceptional travel experience throughout our facility.”
Other Best by Size winners included Canadian gateways St John’s (YYT) and Victoria (YYJ) for airport handling Under 2mppa and perennial winners Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky (CVG), Indianapolis (IND) and Louis Armstrong-New Orleans (MSY) in the 5-15mppa category.
Asia-Pacific & Middle East
Asia-Pacific and the Middle East regions once again led the way in ACI’s annual ASQ Airport Experience Awards, winning a total of 68 accolades across the different categories.
Indeed, ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East airports accounted for 35 of the 95 award winning airports recognised by passengers for delivering the best customer experience on the planet.
Familiar names on the winner’s podium included the big international hubs of Beijing Daxing (PKX), Delhi-Indira Gandhi (DEL), Incheon (INC), Shanghai Pudong (PVG) and Singapore Changi (SIN).
But the awards also recognised excellence in airport customer experience at some of the smaller and less known airports across Asia-Pacific, such as Pattimura (AMQ) and Supadio (PNK) in Indonesia, Kannur (CNN) in India, and Zhangjiakou (ZQZ) in China.
This year, 10 airports from Indonesia won awards across the categories, while eight airports from China and seven from India were recognised for service excellence.
Other awards were assigned to airports in South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia and Philippines, while in the Middle East, six airports were recognised, including two from Oman and one from Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Bahrain and Abu Dhabi.
Talking about DEL’s achievement in being among the eight gateways to be recognised in the Best by Size category for airports handling Over 40mppa in Asia-Pacific, CEO, Videh Kumar Jaipuriar, said: “We are incredibly proud to receive this recognition.
“This award reflects our continuous efforts to elevate the travel experience at Delhi International Airport.
“From seamless processes to exceptional passenger service, all with a constant focus on sustainability, our dedicated team and stakeholders work relentlessly to ensure every passenger’s journey is smooth and memorable.

Oman’s Muscat (MCT) and Salalah (SLL) effectively enjoyed a clean sweep in the Middle East, winning multiple awards across all the categories, although SLL had to share the Best Airport by Size and Region award for airports handling Under 2mppa with Najran Airport (EAM) in Saudi Arabia.
Acting CEO of Oman Airports, Hamoud bin Musbah Al Alawi, enthused:“We prioritise passenger comfort at Oman Airports as MCT and SLL serve as the first gateway for travellers arriving in the Sultanate of Oman and the final touchpoint before their departure.
“Ensuring high-quality service is a core principle within Oman Airports’ operational framework. Today, we are witnessing the rewards of these continuous efforts after years of dedicated work.”
Queen Alia International Airport (AMM) shared the award for Most Enjoyable Airport in the Middle East with Salalah.
Nicolas Deviller, CEO of Queen Alia operator, Airport International Group (AIG), noted: “Since the inauguration of the Terminal Building 12 years ago, we have continuously adapted to the evolving needs of our passengers, ensuring that QAIA remains synonymous with comfort and enjoyment and a place where passengers feel at home from the moment they arrive.
“These achievements are a reflection of the dedication of our entire airport community, whose collective efforts have once again been recognised by those who matter most – our passengers. We sincerely thank them for their trust and recognition.”
Africa
South Africa’s Bram Fischer (BFN) and George (GRJ) airports along with Ivato (TNR) in Madagascar were named Best Airport by Size in the Under 2mppa category.
Dakar Blaise Diagne (DSS) in Senegal and Sri Lanka’s Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport (MRU) shared the 2-5mppa award and Morocco’s Casablanca (CMN) and Marrakech (RAK) airports took the 5-15mppa prize.
Between them CMN and DSS shared all the other award categories for Africa with the exception of Easiest Airport Journey, which was won by Dakar Blaise Diagne and George.
Europe
Rome Fiumicino’s success in every Departures category for Europe in the 2024 ASQ Awards should come as no surprise to anyone based on its levels of innovation, particularly when it comes to embracing new technology to enhance the customer experience.
Operator, Aeroporti de Roma (ADR), notes that it is the eighth year in a row that FCO has been named Best by Size for airports in Europe handling Over 40mppa. And it wasn’t the only Rome airport to win, as Rome Ciampino (CIA) finished joint top in the 2-5mppa section.
ADR CEO, Marco Troncone, commented: “Once again, this year, Fiumicino and Ciampino airports received international recognitions or the quality and the services offered to passengers.
“These awards are increasingly significant and not to be taken for granted, reaffirming the dedication, passion and commitment of our people – as well as the efforts of all colleagues from the companies, organisations and institutions working in synergy at our airports.
“Considering the traffic forecasts for this year and beyond, we are aware that maintaining this level of quality and continuously enhancing our services requires the sustainable development of Rome Fiumicino infrastructures. Thanks to major self-financed investments already underway, we aim at competing with other major hubs in our geographical area, following clear development perspectives.
“This is the only way to strengthen Italy’s position as a leading global tourist destination and high-potential transit hub within the international air connectivity network.’
ADR celebrated the ASQ awards by unveiling ‘Adryx’, the new mascot of FCO and CIA, who is described as an “interstellar ambassador and an expert in quality and innovation”, who lands on Earth to discover the secret of excellence.
FCO shared the award for Europe’s Best Airport by Size handling over 40mppa with iGA Istanbul.
All the other Best by Size winners had at least four winners with the exception of the 15-25mppa Award – Alicante (ALC), Budapest (BUD) and Helsinki (HEL) – and 25-40mppa category, which was shared by Copenhagen (CPH), Palma de Mallorca (PMI ) and Zurich (ZRH).
Commenting on HEL’s Best in Size success, Helsinki Airport director, Ulla Serlenius, enthused: “We are very proud that our work to develop the customer experience at Helsinki Airport has received international recognition year after year.
“Customer satisfaction at our airport has increased over the long term, and the result for 2024 is the highest in the airport’s history. The award is a testament to our passengers’ satisfaction with the airport’s renovations. We will continue our work by listening carefully to the passengers’ requests and following the trends.”
TAV Airports notes that four of its European airports received ASQ awards – Ankara Esenboğa (ESB), İzmir Adnan Menderes (ADB), Milas-Bodrum (BJV) and Skopje (SKP).
Its chief operations officer, Kürşad Koçak, stated: “At TAV Airports, we are celebrating our 25th anniversary this year, and for the past 25 years, we have been committed to delivering the best travel experience for our passengers.
“The Airport Service Quality awards hold special significance for us, as they are determined directly by passenger feedback. We take great pride in seeing our four airports ranked among the best worldwide in their respective categories.”
Latin America-Caribbean
Mexican airports fared particularly well in the 2024 survey, Guadalajara (GDL) on its own winning the Best by Size Award for 15-25mppa.
In the other size categories, Monterrey (MTY) finished top for airports accommodating 5-15mppa alongside Costa Rica’s Juan Santamaria (SJO) and Ecuador’s Quito (UIO) airports; Guanajuato (BJX) and Hermosillo (HMO) shared the 2-5mppa award with Lynden Pindling (NAS) in the Bahamas; and Chihuahua (CUU) and Mazatlán (MZT) took the Under 2mppa crown with Uruguay’s Montevideo-Carrasco (MVD).
VINCI Airports notes that it was the first time the OMA operated airports of Monterrey, Chihuahua and Mazatlán had participated in the ASQ Awards. They joined the VINCI Airports network two years ago.

Hall of fame
As a result of their performance in 2024, new inductees into the ACI World Director General’s Roll of Excellence are Alicante–Elche Airport, Beijing Daxing, Copenhagen, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and Shijiazhuang Zhengding International Airport.
Being inducted is one of the highest honours in the airport industry as it recognises airports that have consistently excelled in service over the past decade.

John F. Kennedy International Airport Enhances Airport Operations System, Expanding Partnership With Copenhagen OptimizationCopenhagen, Denmark, 9th April 2025 – Copenhagen Optimization, a world leader in airport operations optimisation, has expanded its partnership with JFKIAT, the operator of JFK T4, with a deal to improve operational functionalities at JFK International Airport’s largest terminal.
JFKIAT first began working with Copenhagen Optimization in 2018 when it introduced Better Check-in, Better Forecast and Better Security. It implemented Better Baggage and Better Virtual Queueing in 2022 and Better Border in 2023. JFKIAT will now be adopting additional airport operating modules that will assist with real-time operations as their new AOS. This holistic solution will see Copenhagen Optimization combine resource management software (RMS) with an airport operating database (AODB), provided in partnership with UK company Azinq. Azinq specializes in delivering a best-of-breed AODB with their cloud-based, modular SaaS “Airport Hive”.
By broadening the partnership, JFKIAT will also introduce Copenhagen Optimization’s Better Stand & Gate solution to T4, which will help the terminal with one of the most complex areas of airport management, including automated allocation and planning of mobile and fixed resources, seasonal and capacity planning, and detailed rule set up accounting for airline preferences and other interests.

Venice Airport installs innovative Envac waste system, cutting emissions and improving efficiency as part of its 2030 sustainability goals.

Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE) has taken a major step toward its goal of zero emissions by 2030 with the launch of an advanced pneumatic waste collection system, developed in partnership with Envac, a global leader in automated waste solutions. Following Oslo Gardermoen, Marco Polo becomes the second airport in Europe to adopt this technology.
Installed on the south side of the terminal, the system uses more than 500 metres of underground pipes to transport separated waste—residual, multi-material packaging (plastic, glass, cans), and organic—directly to a centralised collection station. Operated 24/7, it currently processes 33% of all waste produced at the airport.
The benefits include more efficient waste separation, elimination of on-site waste depots, reduced vehicle movements within the airport, and improved ergonomic working conditions for staff. The system is expected to save around six tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually. Waste is periodically collected by local provider VERITAS for treatment and recovery.
The SAVE Group has invested €2.1 million in this first phase, with future plans to expand the system throughout the terminal, reaching 6.5 km of piping by 2037. The full rollout is part of a broader €378 million environmental sustainability strategy.
Monica Scarpa, CEO of SAVE Group, said: “The path undertaken by our airport to achieve zero emissions by 2030 is proceeding with concrete actions… The waste collection system is an important step in this roadmap… with an additional €52 million planned for its expansion.”

World’S Airports Honoured For Their Customer Service EffortsBrisbane (BNE), Hamad (DOH), Helsinki (HEL), LaGuardia (LGA), Munich (MUC) and Quito (UIO) are just a few of the airports to be honoured in this year’s Skytrax World Airport Awards.
BNE won the top award for the Best Airport Staff in Australia & Pacific at the 2025 World Airport Awards. It previously won the accolade in 2021.
The survey evaluates the customer experience across all front-line areas of airport service and facilities, from check-in, arrivals, transfers, shopping, security and immigration through to departure at the gate. Staff at Brisbane Airport continue to be praised for their courtesy, attentiveness, and professionalism in daily operations.
“We are incredibly happy that travellers from around the world have recognised the hard-working and passionate Brisbane Airport team. Our philosophy is simple: ‘Don’t worry, be happy,’ and that truly reflects our aim for all travellers,” says Brisbane Airport CEO, Gert-Jan de Graaf.
“There are more than 20,000 people working at Brisbane Airport, and we expect that number to grow by 10,000 by the time the 2032 Games are here. For anyone keen to join Australia’s best airport team, there are jobs available even now.”
Elsewhere, Hamad International Airport (DOH) retained its title as the Best Airport in the Middle East for the eleventh consecutive year and won Best Airport Shopping globally for the third year in a row. The airport was also awarded the prestigious 5-star Airport Rating.
Hamad Ali Al-Khater, DOH’s chief operating officer stated: “We are honoured to receive these prestigious accolades. Being named Best Airport in the Middle East for the eleventh year and Best Airport Shopping for the third time reflects our commitment to delivering an exceptional passenger experience.
“With the launch of Concourses D and E a few weeks ago, we’re expanding our capacity to over 65 million passengers, enhancing the overall experience, integrating smart infrastructure, sustainable design, and next-generation retail and dining experiences”.
In Europe, Helsinki Airport was named as the best airport in Northern Europe.
“We’re proud that passengers have once again chosen Helsinki Airport as the best airport in Northern Europe,” enthused Ulla Serlenius, Finavia’s SVP, Helsinki Airport.
“The global survey widely assesses the level of service and the customer experience at airports at different stages of the passenger journey. It’s clear that Helsinki Airport has a strong position among the best airports.”
In recent years, Finavia has extensively revamped Helsinki Airport’s terminal and its services and developed the digital customer experience. The latest additions to the airport include new lounges, restaurants, a hair salon and a pharmacy.
Elsewhere in Europe, Munich Airport was named Best Airport in Central Europe and ninth globally. This makes it the only German airport among the top 10 in the global ranking.
Jost Lammers, CEO of Munich Airport: “I am very pleased with the excellent rating and would like to thank our passengers. This award recognises our achievements in the areas of customer satisfaction, service quality and innovative infrastructure.
“It is clear evidence of our commitment to providing a premium service. In recent years, we have implemented numerous initiatives to increase efficiency and comfort for our passengers, and we will continue to invest in infrastructure and digitalisation.”
The Hilton Munich Airport was also once again recognized as Best Airport Hotel in Europe.
Commenting on the achievement. MUC’s chief commercial officer, Jan-Henrik Andersson, said: “I am delighted that the Hilton Airport, with its spectacular architecture, outstanding service and unique Mountain Hub concept, has once again scored well with passengers.
“The Alpine Mountain Hub spirit is reflected in the comfortable hotel rooms, the spa and the Michelin-starred ‘Mountain Hub Gourmet’ restaurant”.
In North America, LaGuardia Airport won the best airport in North America for domestic and short haul international travel.
Like all the others, its award was presented at the 2025 World Airport Awards ceremony held at the Passenger Terminal Expo in Madrid, Spain.
The New York gateway believes that its Skytrax award reflects the success of LaGuardia Airport’s historic $8 billion transformation from worst to best in the nation.
“A decade ago, the suggestion that LaGuardia Airport would one day be recognised on the world stage as the best regional airport in North America would have been laughable,” admitted Port Authority executive director Rick Cotton.
“But the Port Authority and our private partners have built what we promised – a world-class airport, with inspiring architecture, public art, iconic concessions and state-of-the-art technology that has propelled LaGuardia from worst to best in the nation in the eyes of the critics and passengers alike.”
In Latin America, Quito’s Mariscal Sucre International Airport was named the Best Regional Airport in South America for the 10th time.
It was also awarded as the Cleanest Airport in South America, while the Wyndham Quito Airport Hotel was recognised as the Best Airport Hotel in South America.

Cpk Invites Bids For Bhs At New Poland AirportCentralny Port Komunikacyjny (CPK) has announced an invitation for bids for the design, delivery, installation and full commission of a new Baggage Handling System (BHS) for Poland’s new airport.
Thus far, Vanderlande Industries, Siemens Logistics, and BEUMER Group Poland have each been personally invited to submit offers for the contract, with 60 days remaining to present their bids.
The proposed Baggage Handling System at the new airport is set to span roughly 80,000 square metres within the terminal building and include more than 13km of conveyor belts, with the basis for the system coming courtesy of Individual Carrier System (ICS) technology, allowing for the transportation of luggage in dedicated trays.
The project includes the development of the detailed design, delivery, and installation of equipment, followed by system commissioning, testing, and ongoing maintenance.
We are drawing on the best available market solutions to ensure the highest standards of security, efficiency, and operational performance for the Baggage Handling System at CPK Airport.
Each potential contractor for the project was subject to a rigorous verification process, which took into account experience and previous BHS system deliveries for airports with a similar capacity (30 million passengers per year within the last 25 years).
Architectural plans for the new passenger terminal, railway and associated bus stations are currently nearing finalisation, with civil engineering plans for runways, taxiways and supporting facilities (including the air traffic control tower and maintenance base) now underway.
Considerations are being taken to address & avoid current limitations of Warsaw’s Chopin Airport, which, according to CPK, is nearing capacity, with its own long-term baggage throughput limited to 1,800 items for departures and 2,200 for arrivals.
The new airport is scheduled to open in 2032 and also includes a high-speed rail network.airport

London Gatwick And Veovo Partner On Integrated Airport Control SystemLondon Gatwick Airport has partnered with technology provider Veovo to develop a new Integrated Airport Control (IAC) System, aimed at improving operational decision-making through predictive analytics and data integration.
The initiative is part of Gatwick’s move towards Total Airport Management, a model that leverages data and automation to anticipate and respond to operational demands. Central to this development is the creation of a Virtual Control Room—an interface designed to consolidate key information, including real-time data, performance indicators, and alerts.
The IAC system will integrate information from multiple parts of the airport ecosystem, including airlines, air traffic control, immigration, ground handling, and security. It is intended to give all stakeholders a shared and current understanding of airport operations, enabling a more coordinated response to emerging issues.
Developed with support from Veovo’s technology partners, Amorph Systems, the platform is being rolled out in phases. Initially developed for specific use cases, it is now being scaled to more than 35 operational areas within the airport.
The future of airport operations lies in predictive decision-making.
