PAX Aeroportos and UrbanV have signed a commitment agreement with ANAC for the development of Brazil’s regulatory sandbox for vertiports.
Following the formation of a partnership, the two companies were selected by ANAC to jointly develop regulations and procedures for vertiport operations in urban areas and at airports. This strategic initiative marks a significant milestone for the development of advanced air mobility (AAM) in Brazil, creating a testbed for innovative solutions under real-world conditions. The initiative aims to bring forward solutions and propose infrastructure and operational models for vertiports that can support passenger operations using eVTOL aircraft.
“Today marks an important milestone in our efforts to help bring advanced air mobility (AAM) to Brazil,” said Carlo Tursi, CEO of UrbanV. “At UrbanV, we know from international experience how valuable regulatory sandboxes can be, as they enable concrete progress in the development of an entire ecosystem. We look forward to working with our partners at Pax Aeroportos, ANAC, and other industry stakeholders in the coming months to accelerate the introduction of this innovative, safe, and sustainable new form of mobility in Brazil.”
The sandbox is a controlled environment for the development of solutions and new technologies to support the implementation of future. It will be based at Campo de Marte Airport in São Paulo, which is managed by PAX Aeroportos.
“We serve a public that will demand this type of travel in the future. Developing vertiport regulations is a project fully aligned with our business strategy,” said Rogério Prado, CEO of PAX Aeroportos.
The sandbox development also involves eVTOL developer Eve Air Mobility, GOL Airlines, and Saipher ATC, which specialises in air traffic control solutions.
As eVTOL flights are not yet authorised in Brazil, the first phase of the sandbox will focus on experiments and simulations in a virtual environment. The second phase will include field testing with aircraft.
The partners will jointly develop regulations and procedures for vertiport operations
