Hamad International Airport (DOH) has opened its new Concourses D and E, boosting the airport’s capacity beyond 65 million passengers per year. This expansion reinforces Doha’s status as a key global transit hub.

The project, launched in 2018, was completed ahead of schedule, marking the final stage of an extensive development programme.

With the addition of Concourses D and E, the airport now spans 845,000 square metres—an increase of 14%. The expansion has also added 17 new aircraft contact gates, increasing the total to 62. This significantly reduces reliance on bus transfers, improves operational efficiency, and strengthens airline connectivity.

Hamad International Airport is more than a gateway; it is a vital pillar of Qatar’s growth and global connectivity. I am pleased to see this expansion project, with conclusion of both concourses going live, which I have personally been involved with since 2018.

While many global airport expansions have faced delays, we are proud to have delivered this major development ahead of schedule. This achievement reflects our commitment to operational excellence and strategic planning. This is not just about increasing capacity—it is about strengthening the entire Qatar Airways network, enhancing operational resilience, and supporting Qatar’s economic growth in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030. This development allows us to meet the evolving demands of global travel while reinforcing Qatar's position as a leading aviation hub.

Concourses D and E are equipped with several new features and enhancements:

Technology-Driven Efficiency

The new concourses feature advanced self-boarding systems that speed up the boarding process. Smart verification technology reduces queues and ensures smoother transitions from check-in to departure.

Greater Airline Connectivity

With more contact gates and optimised flight operations, the airport can now support a broader range of international airlines and provide additional direct routes to key global destinations.

Enhanced Passenger Comfort

Travellers can now enjoy expanded seating areas, new premium retail options, and an upgraded dining selection. Qatar Duty Free has introduced nine new outlets, adding 2,700 square metres of retail space to the airport’s extensive shopping and dining portfolio.

Commitment to Sustainability and Accessibility

Concourses D and E are designed with sustainability in mind, targeting GSAS 4-Star Design & Build Certification and aiming for LEED Gold Certification. Energy-efficient systems, advanced water conservation measures, and optimised thermal management support the airport’s sustainability objectives.

Accessibility features, including barrier-free pathways, hearing loops, and designated assistance services, also aim to ensure an inclusive experience for all travellers.

Our focus is to deliver operational excellence that supports both current demands and future growth. The opening of Concourses D and E marks a significant milestone in expanding our capacity and enhancing operational efficiency. This combined development streamlines passenger flow, optimises resource management, and strengthens airline connectivity, ensuring smoother and more efficient passenger services.

The completion of Concourses D and E marks the final stage of Hamad International Airport’s broader expansion, which has introduced key infrastructure enhancements, including ORCHARD and an expanded Central Concourse.
