Angola Kicks 2025 Off With Major Oil & Gas Milestones

Angola has witnessed several industry milestones in the first two months of 2025, all of which lay the foundation for an impactful year ahead. From exploration deals and project advancements to new entrants and event launches, recent developments position 2025 as the year for accelerated exploration and production in Angola. 

TGS Completes Block 16 Seismic Reprocessing

Energy data and intelligence company TGS, in partnership with Angola’s upstream regulator the National Oil, Gas & Biofuels Agency (ANPG), completed the reprocessing of the GeoStreamer MC3D seismic dataset in Angola’s Block 16 in February 2025. Covering an area of 3,684 km², the dataset offers in-depth processing workflows that deliver imaging beyond the initial dataset.

Agogo FPSO Completed in China

The Agogo FPSO vessel was completed at a shipyard in China in February 2025. The vessel joins the operational Ngoma FPSO at Block 15/06 and will increase production at the block by 120,000 barrels per day (bpd). The vessel was completed six months ahead of schedule and features the world’s first carbon capture and storage unit.

TotalEnergies, ExxonMobil to Evaluate Deepwater Blocks

Energy majors TotalEnergies and ExxonMobil signed an agreement with the ANPG in February 2025 for the study and evaluation of the Free Areas of Blocks 17/06 and 32/21. If the studies are successful, the ANPG will conclude the concessions contract for each of the Free Areas.

Azule Energy Completes Offshore Platforms for NGC Project

International energy company Azule Energy – alongside its New Gas Consortium partners – completed the Quiluma and Maboqueiro (Q&M) offshore platforms in February 2025. The platforms form part of Angola’s first non-associated gas project and will harness gas resources from the Q&M shallow water fields. First gas is on track for early-2026.

Angola Inaugurates Barra do Dande Terminal

Angolan President João Lourenço inaugurated the first phase of the Barra do Dande Ocean Terminal on February 10, 2025. The terminal – situated in Bengo Province – has the largest fuel storage facility in the country, comprising 29 storage tanks with a capacity to store 580,000 cubic meters of gasoline, diesel and gas.

Oando Enters Angolan Market with KON 13 Operatorship

Nigerian multinational energy firm Oando PLC was awarded operatorship of onshore Block KON 13 in February 2025. Situated in the Kwanza Basin, the deal marks Oando’s entrance into Angola. Oando will lead the development of the block with a 45% interest.

SLB Inaugurates Performance Center in Luanda

Global technology company SLB inaugurated the Africa Performance Center in Luanda in February 2025. The center will support oil, gas and energy activities by offering access to innovative digital solutions such as Artificial Intelligence. The center also facilitated capacity building and skills development.

Angola Oil & Gas 2025 Launches in Luanda

The sixth edition of the Angola Oil & Gas (AOG) conference – taking place September 3-4, 2025 – was officially launched at an event in Luanda in January 2025. The launch event marked the beginning of a historic celebration, with the 2025 edition of AOG set to commemorate 50 years of independence in Angola. AOG represents the country’s largest oil and gas investment platform.

Red Sky Energy Secures Block 6/24 Stake

Exploration and production company Red Sky Energy acquired a 35% stake in Angola’s Block 6/24 – situated in the Kwanza Basin – in January 2025. The deal marked the company’s foray into the African continent.

AOG is the largest oil and gas event in Angola. Taking place with the full support of the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas; the National Oil, Gas and Biofuels Agency; the Petroleum Derivatives Regulatory Institute; national oil company Sonangol; and the African Energy Chamber; the event is a platform to sign deals and advance Angola’s oil and gas industry.
