A joint consortium formed by Dutch maritime services provider Boskalis and Swiss offshore pipeline contractor Allseas has been awarded a significant $1.38 billion contract by CPC Corporation Taiwan for the second offshore gas pipeline (YT2) connecting Yongan and Tongxiao.
The project, valued at approximately 1.2 billion euros ($1.38 billion), is a cornerstone in Taiwan's push for energy transition and aims to bolster natural gas supply in the northern region. The comprehensive contract includes the design, construction, installation, and pre-commissioning of the new 36-inch offshore natural gas pipeline.
Spanning approximately 232 kilometers, the YT2 pipeline will run parallel to the existing YT1 line, linking the Yongan Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminal in the southwest to the Tongxiao transfer station in the northwest.
The extensive scope of work includes crucial elements such as trenching, the intricate installation of the pipeline with 34 crossings over existing and future infrastructure, backfilling, and the construction of two landfalls.
Boskalis will oversee the critical landfall and associated micro-tunneling activities, nearshore and offshore trenching, backfilling, and the strategic installation of rocks for the numerous pipeline crossings. To execute these tasks, Boskalis plans to deploy two large hopper dredgers, a substantial backhoe dredger, and a subsea rock installation vessel.
Allseas will manage the core pipeline installation and pre-commissioning phases, which include the pre-lay installation of concrete mattresses. The company will utilize two of its most advanced pipelay vessels for these operations.
This collaborative venture underscores Boskalis' and Allseas' dedication to developing vital energy infrastructure and solidifies their prominent standing in the offshore sector. By working closely with CPC Corporation Taiwan, the consortium is set to significantly enhance the reliability and security of natural gas supply for the region.
