Orbital Eye, a provider of AI-powered satellite monitoring for critical infrastructure, announces that it has been awarded a major contract for satellite monitoring of the entire pipeline network of its U.S. based customer Berkshire Hathaway Gas Transmission & Storage (BHE GT&S). With this contract Orbital Eye will monitor approximately 3700 miles of liquids and natural gas pipelines in the northeast United States for BHE GT&S.
This milestone marks the first time a U.S. pipeline operator has adopted satellite monitoring as its primary method for infrastructure monitoring, representing a major step forward for the industry. Previously monitored by helicopter, the network is now monitored using Orbital Eye’s satellite solution, enabling faster detection, weather-independent monitoring, and more frequent inspections.
With its satellite-powered monitoring solution COSMIC-EYE, Orbital Eye provides actionable insights on Third-Party Activity and surface disturbances to BHE GT&S. Orbital Eye also provides its Class Location Monitoring service, which informs BHE GT&S about all new, existing, and removed structures in the wider pipeline corridor. This deployment confirms the scalability and operational value of satellite-powered monitoring in large and complex U.S. infrastructure environments.
By integrating Orbital Eye’s satellite monitoring into its operations, BHE GT&S strengthens its ability to monitor ongoing excavations, construction activities, vegetation clearances, land-use changes, and other disturbances at an early stage, supporting proactive risk management and safer operations.
Sven van Haver, CEO of Orbital Eye, comments: “This is a defining milestone for Orbital Eye. After years of large-scale operational deployments across Europe and Asia, stepping onto U.S. ground with our first operational customer is a major moment for us. It shows that satellite monitoring has moved beyond promise into proven, trusted infrastructure practice, and this collaboration confirms that U.S. operators are ready to modernize monitoring with data-driven, scalable solutions.”
The deployment with BHE formally unlocks the U.S. market for Orbital Eye, building on more than a decade of operational experience across Europe and other regions. It further reinforces Orbital Eye’s position as a global leader in satellite-powered infrastructure monitoring.
