Liquefied natural gas from the United States made up 30% of Spain's total gas imports in 2025, up from around 16.6% in 2024, while imports of Russian LNG fell significantly, data showed on Monday.

The increase bumped up the U.S. to replace Russia as Spain's second-largest supplier after Algeria, which also pumps gas directly to Spain through pipelines.

Europe has increased imports of LNG from the U.S. in the wake of Russia's invasion of Ukraine as it moves to phase out Russian gas imports by late 2027.

Last year, Spain imported the equivalent of 111,660 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of gas from the U.S., a steep rise from 56,435 GWh a year earlier, according to data from Spanish gas grid operator Enagas.

Meanwhile, the share of Russian gas in Spain's total imports fell to 11.4% from 21.3% a year prior.
