VA TECH WABAG (‘WABAG’), a leading pure-play water technology Indian multinational group, announces that it has been awarded a 300 Million Litres per Day (MLD) Sea Water Reverse Osmosis (‘SWRO’) Mega Desalination Plant at Yanbu, in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The Contract value is at approximately USD 272 million (SAR 1,019 million / INR 2,332 crore) by the Saudi Water Authority (‘SWA’).
This Project encompasses the scope of design, engineering, supply, construction, and commissioning of a 300 MLD Mega Desalination Plant, to be developed on a greenfield site located along the west coast of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The Company stated that, We have received the Letter of Award, and the contracting formalities will commence now. Post signing of the contract, the effective date for commencement of execution will be announce.

This deal sets the stage for a transformative boost to the nation’s oil production. It targets increasing output to 200,000 barrels per day (bpd) by 2030.
The agreement was officially signed by Bruno Jean-Richard Itoua, Minister of Hydrocarbons of Congo, Jean-Jacques Bouya, Minister of State of Congo and Xiao Lianping, President General, Wing Wah in August.
Through the pact, Congo is looking to ramp up cumulative production across the three permits to more than 1.3 billion barrels by 2050. The deal is a central pillar in the country’s broader economic and financial strategy, committing over $23 billion in investment and promising substantial fiscal and para-fiscal revenues.
The African Energy Chamber – the voice of the African energy sector – supports the signing of this agreement, which extends beyond crude extraction. The agreement advances energy sovereignty through the valorization of associated gas for domestic use which is key to reducing routine flaring. A cornerstone of the project is the creation of a training center, aimed at boosting local content by equipping Congolese citizens at all skill levels to access new job opportunities generated by the development.
The project also includes an integrated gas monetization component, with multi-phase expansion of LNG, LPG, butane and propane production capacity–intended to satisfy both domestic demand and exports. The integrated nature of the development includes scalable gas treatment infrastructure, on-site power generation and water-management systems–all designed for efficiency and community benefit.
Local employment is already substantial, with some 3,000–3,300 Congolese workers involved, and social benefits such as excess power and treated water provided to nearby communities.
Wing Wah has already established a significant presence in Congo via its development of the Banga Kayo field. This onshore permit currently comprises around 237–250 drilled wells and produces approximately 45,000 bpd, approaching a peak output of 50,000–80,000 bpd.
The Republic of Congo took a significant step towards maximizing its hydrocarbon resources with the signing of an amended Production Sharing Contract (PSC) between Minister of Hydrocarbons Bruno Jean-Richard Itoua and China’s Wing Wah Oil Company for the Banga Kayo block last year. This move marked the beginning of development at the block and underscored the country’s commitment to tapping into its untapped resources.
The amended PSC outlined a three-phase development plan, demonstrating the importance of public-private partnerships in developing oil and gas projects in Africa, providing a clear path to resource monetization.

Pttep Greenlights $320M Offshore Ccs Project At Arthit Gas Field In ThailandThailand’s state-owned oil and gas company PTT Exploration and Production (PTTEP) has reached the final investment decision (FID) on carbon capture and storage (CCS) project at its producing Arthit gas field, offshore Thailand.
This milestone marks Thailand’s first CCS development, paving the way for the technology to play a significant role in advancing the country’s Net Zero goal.
The Arthit CCS Project has been endorsed as one of flagship projects for greenhouse gas emissions reduction under the NDC Action Plan, with an approved direction for the government to consider measures and granting of appropriate investment support such as tax incentives.
PTTEP has conducted extensive studies and assessments in preparation for the project, covering the entire process - from storage site selection with reservoirs at depths of 1,000 - 2,000 meters, to engineering design, and comprehensive Measurement, Monitoring and Verification (MMV) programs.
The company will leverage existing infrastructure at Arthit field while constructing and installing additional facilities as required.
Carbon storage operations are expected to commence in 2028, with capacity gradually ramping up to around 1 million tonnes of carbon dioxide per year.
The five-year investment is estimated at approximately $320 million (THB 10 billion.
Importantly, the development will not impact natural gas production at the Arthit field.
CCS is regarded as a reverse process of petroleum exploration and production. As natural gas is extracted from underground to provide energy for national development and everyday life, the excess carbon dioxide is captured and safely injected back into its original subsurface reservoirs.
“PTTEP strives not only to safeguard the country’s energy security but also to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. CCS is an essential technology, both nationally and globally, complementing other clean energy solutions in addressing climate change.

Egypt Secures New Oil And Gas Exploration Contracts Worth $340 MillionEgypt has entered into four oil and gas exploration agreements with international companies valued at more than $340 million (E£16.52 billion), aiming to bolster domestic production in the face of growing energy demand.
The agreements, disclosed by the Petroleum Ministry on 30 August, encompass offshore blocks in the Mediterranean and Nile Delta.
These contracts include a commitment to drill 10 new wells and were secured by the state-owned Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS).
Shell International has entered into the largest agreement, valued at $120 million (£88.7 million), for exploration in the Mediterranean's Merneith offshore area. The agreement includes plans for three wells.
The second agreement is with Italian energy company Eni, which has pledged $100 million (€85.31 million) for drilling three wells in the East Port Said offshore block.
Russia’s Zarubezhneft signed the third agreement, valued at $14 million (Rbs1.13 billion), which is set to focus on the North Khatatba concession in the Nile Delta, with four wells scheduled to be drilled.
In addition, Arcius Energy, a joint venture between BP and XRG, the investment arm of the United Arab Emirates' ADNOC, has committed to invest $109 million in the North Damietta offshore area.
These investments come at a critical time as Egypt grapples with declining gas field supplies and a surge in electricity consumption, compounded by regional tensions impacting the energy sector.
The Ministry of Petroleum has announced that the contracts are a component of a larger strategy aimed at enhancing exploration efforts, ensuring a stable domestic supply and strengthening Egypt's position as a key energy hub in the region.

Egypt To Invest $400M In New Natural Gas Pipeline From Israel’S Leviathan FieldEgypt is set to invest $400 million in a new pipeline to connect with a line Israel is building to the Nitzana border crossing, a move that will significantly increase natural gas imports and strengthen Egypt's energy security.
The investment follows a $35 billion gas deal between Egypt and the partners in Israel's Leviathan field, according to a report by the Saudi London-based newspaper Asharq Business.
As a net importer of liquefied natural gas, the new pipeline is a critical component of Egypt's strategy to meet its growing domestic energy needs, with gas from Israel being a more economical alternative to expensive LNG imports.
For the Leviathan partners, which include U.S. energy giant Chevron, Israel's NewMed Energy, and Ratio, the deal presents a major business opportunity, which will see Egypt import more Israeli gas at higher prices compared to the subsidized rates for the domestic Israeli market.
As part of the deal, the partners will increase gas production and expand export infrastructure to Egypt to cater to the demand, with the exporters expected to finance the 65-kilometer Nitzana pipeline.
With the internal dispute between exporters overcome, the project’s partners are nearing a final agreement to enable timely project completion, with gas expected to begin flowing through the pipeline by 2028.
The new pipeline is projected to increase the amount of gas exported to Egypt by 6 billion cubic meters per year.
While Egypt has ambitions to become a regional energy hub by importing, liquefying, and re-exporting gas, it is currently prioritizing imports from Israel and Cyprus to satisfy domestic demand.
Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly announced that the country expects to resume its own gas exports in 2027.
The Leviathan gas field expansion project has faced delays, with the deadline pushed back five times. However, in February, Chevron Mediterranean announced that the third subsea pipeline would be completed by the end of 2025.

Egypt To Build $400M Gas Pipeline To IsraelEgypt reportedly plans to build a $400 million pipeline to increase natural-gas imports from Israel.
The pipeline will be constructed inside Egypt’s territory by the Egyptian Natural Gas Company, the Saudi Asharq Business website said, quoting two unidentified Egyptian government officials.
Egypt approved the project following an agreement with NewMed Energy, the operator of Israel’s Leviathan gas field, as domestic demand in Egypt continues to rise.
NewMed Energy said in early August it would expand gas exports to the North African Arab country under an amended agreement with Egypt’s state-backed Blue Ocean Energy.
Under the new terms, annual gas exports could surge from the current 4.5 billion cubic metres to as much as 12.5 billion cubic metres by 2029, depending on infrastructure expansion.
“Egypt intends to build a new pipeline in the last quarter of this year to receive the additional gas supplies from Israel,” Asharq Business said.
Egypt, once a natural-gas exporter, has become a net importer due to rapid growth in domestic use and a decline in local production.
Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said last month that new projects and the awarding of contracts to foreign oil majors would boost Egypt’s gas output and allow it to become an exporter again by 2027.

Rotterdam Completes Final Weld On 20-Mile Hydrogen Pipeline(P&GJ) — Rotterdam marked a milestone in mid-August with the completion of the final weld on a 32-kilometer (20-mile) hydrogen pipeline, the first section of the Netherlands’ planned national hydrogen network.
The pipeline, built through the heart of the port area, will form a key part of the country’s future hydrogen backbone, linking Rotterdam to Germany, Belgium, and other parts of the Netherlands. The project is intended to strengthen the port’s role as a major energy hub for Europe.
Construction, which began in April 2024 after several years of preparation, faced significant logistical challenges. The route had to cross a dense web of roads, railways, waterways, and hundreds of existing pipes and cables. In some sections, crews worked beneath more than 20 active lines to ensure uninterrupted operations during installation.
With welding now finished, the project moves into the next phase: testing, pre-commissioning, commissioning, and preparing the line for operation.

Egypt To Build $400 Million Pipeline For Israeli Gas Imports(P&GJ) — Egypt is advancing plans to construct a new natural gas pipeline, valued at roughly $400 million, to handle additional imports from Israel, according to Agenzia Nova.
The project will be located entirely within Egypt’s territory and is expected to be managed by the state-owned Egyptian Natural Gas Company (Gasco) once engineering plans are completed.
Funding for the pipeline will come from the Egyptian government, while NewMed Energy—the Israeli company developing the Leviathan gas field—will extend infrastructure to the border to connect with the new system, as reported by Agenzia Nova.
Earlier this month, Cairo and NewMed Energy updated their existing supply deal to include an additional 130 billion cubic meters of natural gas through 2040. The new framework outlines two phases: an initial delivery of about 20 billion cubic meters, followed by up to 110 billion cubic meters in later stages, contingent on infrastructure upgrades and investment.
Officials say the expanded pipeline capacity will bolster Egypt’s role as a regional gas hub, enabling the country to re-export Israeli gas as liquefied natural gas (LNG) to both European and Asian markets.

Brazos Midstream To Build $185 Million Gas Plant In Texas Permian Basin(P&GJ) — Brazos Midstream plans to build a new natural gas processing plant in Martin County, Texas, as part of a $185 million expansion supported by the state’s Jobs, Energy, Technology, and Innovation (JETI) program.
The new cryogenic facility, Sundance II, will add 300 million cubic feet per day (MMcf/d) of processing capacity, bringing Brazos Midstream’s total capacity in the Midland Basin to 500 MMcf/d.
“Texas energy fuels the American economy,” Governor Greg Abbott said in a statement announcing the project. “Brazos Midstream’s $185 million expansion in Martin County will more than double their natural gas processing capacity in the Midland Basin.”
Brazos Midstream CEO Brad Iles said the expansion is designed to provide “mission-critical gas infrastructure and reliable takeaway capacity to energy producers.”
The company operates an extensive gathering and processing network across the Midland Basin, part of the Permian Basin, which produces roughly 25% of U.S. natural gas from the lower 48 states.
Local leaders also praised the project’s economic impact. Senator Kevin Sparks said the facility will “strengthen our region’s role in powering the nation,” while Representative Tom Craddick noted the project “will bring new jobs, strengthen our local economy, and ensure Texas remains a leader in energy.”
The Sundance II facility is expected to support both state energy security and local job creation once operational.

Egypt Signs $340M Natural Gas Exploration DealsState-owned Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Co. (EGAS) has secured $340 million in investment through four new deals with global energy companies to expand natural gas exploration.
The agreements aim to ramp up exploration and production activities in the Mediterranean and Nile Delta regions, the ministry said in a statement.
Under the agreements, Shell will invest $120 million in the Marnith offshore block in the Mediterranean, with plans to drill three wells.
Italy’s Eni, in partnership with BP and QatarEnergy, will develop the East Port Said offshore concession for $100 million, involving the drilling of three wells.
Russia’s Zarubezhneft will invest $14 million in the North Khattabia area in the Nile Delta, planning to drill four wells. Meanwhile, Arkus Energy will allocate $109 million to explore the North Damietta offshore area in the Mediterranean.
In July Egypt announced plans to award new gas contracts to foreign companies as part of the latest concession bidding round that had attracted scores of bidders.
The concessions cover more than 26,000 sq km in north and northeast Egypt, as well as in offshore areas in the East Mediterranean, which provides most of the country’s existing gas production.
The latest round involves 12 onshore and offshore concessions offered by the EGAS, which hopes these projects will reverse a decline in the country’s natural gas wealth.

Ctci Wins $910 Million Epc Contract For Taiwan Lng Regas Facility(P&GJ) — Taiwan’s CTCI has secured a NT$29.6 billion ($910 million) engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract to build a regasification facility at the Kaohsiung Intercontinental LNG Receiving Terminal, the country’s seventh LNG terminal.
The project, awarded by state-owned CPC Corp., follows CTCI’s earlier contract to construct LNG storage tanks at the same terminal. The regasification facility will convert LNG from four 180,000-kiloliter cryogenic tanks into natural gas at an output of 1,600 tons per hour. Completion is slated for 2030.
CTCI Chairman Michael Yang said, “We appreciate that CPC Corporation has further entrusted CTCI with the Kaohsiung Intercontinental LNG Receiving Terminal project. For the regasification facility, CTCI will leverage green and intelligent technologies to save energy, cut carbon emissions, and make construction more time-efficient.”
The facility will use seawater to heat cryogenic LNG and recover cold energy from the process for air conditioning. CTCI will also deploy its proprietary pipeline cleaning robot and flange bolt fastening system to improve construction safety and efficiency.
The Kaohsiung project supports Taiwan’s push to expand natural gas use as it shifts from coal-fired power. Natural gas is expected to become the nation’s main source of electricity, while global LNG demand is projected to rise 60% by 2040.
CTCI has built all of Taiwan’s operating LNG receiving terminals and has participated in 11 LNG terminal projects across Asia, contributing to 40 million tonnes of LNG capacity annually.

Texas Greenlights $216 Million Loan For 456 Mw Houston Gas Plant(P&GJ) — Governor Greg Abbott announced on Aug. 4 that the Texas Energy Fund (TEF) has approved a low-interest loan to support construction of a 456-megawatt natural gas power plant in Houston. The project is being developed by NRG Energy Inc. and is expected to begin operations by summer 2026.
“This 456 megawatt investment in the Texas grid will help bear the load of the largest electricity demand area in the state, further ensuring reliable and affordable power for countless homes and businesses in the greater Houston area,” Abbott said.
The new unit will be built at NRG’s existing TH Wharton Generating Station and will connect to the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) Houston Load Zone, which includes Houston, Pasadena, and The Woodlands.
Under the agreement, total project costs are estimated at under $360 million. The Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUC) is providing a 20-year TEF loan of up to $216 million, or 60% of the cost, at a 3% interest rate. The loan term runs from July 31, 2025, through July 30, 2045.
“This new power plant marks another major investment in Texas and in the ERCOT grid, helping prepare our state’s power supply to meet the demands of the future,” said PUC Chairman Thomas Gleeson.
NRG’s Robert J. Gaudette, executive vice president and president of NRG Business and Wholesale Operations, said construction of the project is already generating jobs. “Once online next year it will provide additional permanent jobs, enhanced grid stability, and regional economic growth,” he said.
The TEF loan program was created to add new, dispatchable power to ERCOT through low-interest financing. In addition to this loan, one other TEF project has already been approved, representing a combined 578 MW of new capacity. Fifteen more applications are under review, totaling 8,392 MW of proposed generation.
