The order with Konecranes was booked in February 2025, with delivery to the Port of Valencia scheduled for March 2026.
The new cranes will be added to the fleet of 11 Konecranes hybrid RTGs that CSP Valencia already has in operation at its terminals in Valencia and Bilbao.
The new equipment is expected to significantly reduce fuel consumption and CO2Â emissions compared to conventional diesel-powered RTGs.
The seven new cranes come equipped with Active Load Control (ALC), Gantry Collision Prevention and Truck Lift Prevention, enhancing operational efficiency and safety at the Valencia terminal.
“This investment is another important step in our journey towards zero tailpipe port operations,” said Gustavo Ferrer Soriano, General Manager at CSP Iberian Valencia.

“Many port operators on the Iberian Peninsula and the Canary Islands are now in full transition to more sustainable operations – this is already our third agreement for the region announced in 2025,” said Darryn Scheepers, EMEA Sales Director, Konecranes, Port Solutions.
“The growing uptake of our hybrid drive technology speaks for itself – this is the way to achieve high operational performance while reaching sustainability goals.”
Last month, Konecranes attained the IEC 62443-4-1 cybersecurity certification for Port Solutions and Industrial Equipment products offered to container handling, shipyards, process industries and general manufacturing customers.

Cma Cgm Plots Expansion In Saudi Arabia With $450M Jeddah Terminal JvFrench shipping and logistics group CMA CGM has taken another step to expand its terminal footprint in the Middle East, signing a term sheet with Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea Gateway Terminal (RSGT) for a potential joint venture to build and operate Terminal 4 at Jeddah Islamic Port.
The agreement, signed by CMA Terminals during the Future Investment Initiative (FII9) in Riyadh, lays the groundwork for a $450m, 2.6m teu facility that would operate as a separate terminal adjacent to RSGT’s existing operations.
The project would be developed under a sub-concession within RSGT’s long-term deal with the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani). It forms part of an expansion clause in RSGT’s 2020 concession, which allows for additional capacity at the Kingdom’s busiest Red Sea gateway.
RSGT group CEO Jens Floe said the plan reflects a shared intent to boost capacity, reliability, and technology at Jeddah. “By bringing CMA CGM to consolidate their volumes on Terminal 4, we can accelerate upgrades and service enhancements while maintaining high standards across the terminal,” he said.
CMA CGM chairman and CEO Rodolphe Saadé described the move as a “new step in the development of Jeddah Islamic Port” that aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030. He said combining CMA CGM’s global network with RSGT’s local expertise would help make Jeddah a “key logistics gateway on the Red Sea”.
The duo said the new terminal will be designed to handle the world’s largest containerships, featuring next-generation equipment and digital systems aimed at improving efficiency and sustainability. If completed, the facility would further bolster Jeddah’s role as a regional transhipment hub linking Europe, Asia, and Africa, while deepening CMA CGM’s long-term presence in the Red Sea region.

Panama Canal Authority Unveils $2.6 Billion Plan To Build Two New Ports By 2029The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) has announced plans to build two new port terminals worth US$2.6 billion by 2029 to increase capacity and stay competitive amid uncertainty over the future of Hong Kong–based Hutchison Holdings’ port operations in Panama.
The two new terminals, Corozal on the Pacific side and Telfers on the Atlantic, will increase Panama’s container-handling capacity from 9.5 million TEUs to 15 million TEUs annually.
The ACP plans to award construction and concession contracts before the end of 2026, with both ports scheduled to begin operations in 2029.
The announcement followed a consultation meeting with around twenty global port and shipping companies, including Cosco Shipping Ports, PSA International, Evergreen, Hapag-Lloyd, and Maersk, who expressed interest in the project.
ACP Vice President of Finance VĂctor Vial said that the expansion is essential for maintaining Panama’s competitive position in global trade. He remarked that if expansion does not occur in Panama, neighbouring countries may seize the opportunity instead.
The authority also intends to invest more than US$8.5 billion over the next decade to expand and diversify its business portfolio. Alongside the new ports, projects under consideration include a gas pipeline and a new reservoir.
ACP Administrator Ricaurte Vásquez recently observed that Panama’s five existing main ports, operated by companies from the United States, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore, are operating close to capacity.
He added that the new development would add approximately 5 million TEUs of container transhipment capacity each year, helping relieve congestion across the canal zone.
The project comes as the future of the Balboa (Pacific) and Cristóbal (Atlantic) terminals, both managed by Hutchison’s subsidiary Panama Ports, remains uncertain.
Hutchison is currently seeking to sell its stakes in these terminals to a consortium led by U.S.-based BlackRock and Terminal Investment Limited (TiL), an affiliate of Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC).
The deal, valued globally at US$22.8 billion, has been welcomed by Washington but opposed by Beijing, which has reportedly sought the inclusion of Chinese state-owned Cosco in the consortium.
According to Hong Kong analyst Lau Siu-kai, Panama’s decision to develop new terminals could help the country regain control and reduce geopolitical tension by diversifying port ownership. He noted that if more companies are involved, the strategic importance of Hutchison’s ports to both the U.S. and China could decrease.
However, Lau also said that the dispute over Hutchison’s existing ports is unlikely to end soon, as both countries are expected to keep firm positions on the issue.
Meanwhile, Panama’s Supreme Court is reviewing several lawsuits that could cancel Hutchison’s port concessions. Canal Affairs Minister José Ramón Icaza said the government is ready for any scenario and would appoint an interim operator if needed before launching a new tender.
The 80-kilometre-long Panama Canal, opened in 1914 and handed over to Panama in 1999, handles about 5% of global sea trade.

The Alabama Port Authority and APM Terminals Mobile announced an agreement to proceed with construction of a new 1,300-foot container berth at the Port of Mobile. The $131 million project, funded by federal appropriations and private investments from APM Terminals, will expand berth capacity by 50% and enable the terminal to handle three ultra-large containerships simultaneously.
Construction is expected to begin in 2026, with completion targeted for 24 months after groundbreaking. Once operational, the annual berth capacity of APM Terminals Mobile will reach 1.4 million TEU, supported by seven ship-to-shore cranes.
The Phase V project follows the recent completion of the $366 million Mobile Harbor deepening project to 50 feet, making it the deepest container port in the U.S. Gulf. The new berth complements more than $200 million in investments currently underway, including a 33-acre container yard expansion, a rail capacity upgrade, and construction of a new rail flyover bridge that will enable direct on-dock rail access.
“This expansion is about more than infrastructure — it’s about cementing Mobile’s position as the Gulf’s premier container gateway,” said Doug Otto, Interim CEO and Director of the Alabama Port Authority. “With the channel deepening complete, a new berth underway, the Phase IV expansion in progress, and APM Terminals’ continued partnership, we’re connecting businesses across Alabama — and across the nation — to global markets faster and more efficiently than ever before.”
“This new berth is a strategic next step in making sure Mobile stays ahead of the growth curve,” said Brian Harold, Managing Director of APM Terminals Mobile. “As cargo volumes grow, we’re committed to scaling further in full partnership with the Port Authority and our customers.”
The new berth will be located at the southern end of the existing container terminal and is adjacent to 25 acres of land that could be developed in the future for container handling, value-added logistics, or storage needs.
To support the long-term success of the terminal, APM Terminals and the Alabama Port Authority have agreed to a 20-year extension of APM Terminals’ concession to operate the container terminal, now running through 2058 with two 10-year extension options. The agreement includes increased lease payments to underwrite the Port Authority investment.
The expansion comes as APM Terminals, the port operating arm of Danish shipping giant Maersk Group, pursues other Gulf Coast investments. The company will invest $500 million in a new container terminal on the Mississippi River’s west bank at the Louisiana Gateway Port. The initial development encompasses 200 acres featuring on-dock rail facilities and a berth capable of accommodating post-Panamax vessels, with potential expansion up to 900 acres.
APM Terminals previously ceased operations at Port Houston in July 2015.

Ashdod Port Unveils Infrastructure Upgrade Plan Worth Over $450MIsrael’s Ashdod Port Company has announced an infrastructure investment program valued at approximately NIS 1.5bn ($458m) to enhance efficiency and expand capabilities.
The investment program includes a series of projects to modernise and optimise the port’s facilities, with a focus on transforming quays into specialised terminals according to cargo segments.
This specialisation is designed to streamline operations and strengthen the port’s role as a key national infrastructure asset.
The port looks to buy 12 electric ERTG cranes as part of a broader plan to acquire 34 cranes by 2030, as well as construct a dedicated electrical substation, and expand the container storage yard behind Quay 21, increasing its capacity by an additional 4,000 containers.
Funds will also be allocated for the advanced jib cranes, along with several complementary infrastructure projects currently underway.
The jib cranes are part of the company’s plans to optimise Quays 7 and 9 for general cargo and bulk operations. These new cranes, with a maximum working radius of 48 meters, can handle general cargo, bulk materials, and heavy project loads weighing up to 124 tons. The upgraded quays will accommodate vessels of up to 100,000 tons.
The company has also launched the second phase of the Quay 21 upgrade project. This phase includes the construction of a new container storage yard in the quay’s hinterland, procurement of the ERTG cranes, and establishment of a transformation station and dedicated electrical substation. A new transformation station has already been completed.

World’S Biggest 10,000-Ton Pure Electric Cargo Ship “Gezhouba” Enters ServiceThe world’s biggest 10,000-ton pure electric transport ship called Gezhouba was launched in Yichang, in western Hubei province of China.
The ship is 129.98 m long, 22 m wide and 7.7 m deep with a draft of 6.5 m and a maximum deadweight of 13,740 tons.
It will mainly transport bulk commodities found along the Changjiang River.
The ship has 12 sets of containerised lithium-ion battery packs, totalling 24,000 kWh.
The batteries can be charged quickly and replaced in just 30 minutes, offering a cruising range of up to 500 km, enabling long-distance cargo transportation.
This futuristic ship integrates 4G, 5G, BeiDou navigation, and satellite communications into a multi-link network, allowing for remote navigation control and automated berthing and unberthing operations.
It is also a pioneer of smart management across the ship, port and shore. After its commissioning, electric propulsion has replaced 617.5 tons of fuel oil, decreasing carbon dioxide emissions by around 2052 tons and contributing to green navigation in inland waterway shipping.
Per reports, the vessel achieved breakthroughs in areas like new energy propulsion, navigation control, and supporting infrastructure while successfully validating several core technologies, including massive-capacity batteries and DC integrated power systems.

St. Johns Ship Building Sets New 100-Ton Rough Terrain Crane Into ServiceSt. Johns Ship Building (SJSB), a subsidiary of Americraft Marine Group, announced the receipt and commissioning of a new 100-ton Link-Belt rough terrain crane, acquired through funding provided by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration (MARAD) Small Shipyard Grant Program.
The Link-Belt 100|RT is fabricated and assembled in Lexington, Kentucky, U.S.A. This heavy-lift crane expands the shipyard’s material-handling and modular assembly capabilities, supporting a growing backlog of both commercial and government vessel programs.
The 100|RT crane features a five-section, full-power boom extending to 155 feet and an optional tip height of 237 feet, along with Link-Belt’s PULSE 2.0 operating system, real-time telematics, and a modern ergonomic operator cab. 38 Kilograms Of Cocaine Found Inside A Shipping Container Of Bananas At Piraeus PortAuthorities in Greece struck another major blow to drug trafficking networks, confiscating over 38 kilograms of cocaine hidden inside a shipping container of bananas at the Port of Piraeus.
The narcotics were found during an operation conducted by the Directorate for Combating Organised Crime, the Narcotics Division, and the Customs and Financial authorities.
Per police reports, 33 packages with cocaine weighing around 38.2 kilograms were found hidden between the refrigeration unit and the inner wall of the container.
The container had arrived by ship from a foreign country, carrying 1080 cartons of bananas destined for Piraeus.
Authorities estimated that the street value of the seized cocaine could exceed a million euros.
Investigation is ongoing to trace the origins and intended recipients of the drug and to ascertain whether the case has links to the international drug trafficking mafia.

South Korea’S Hmm Orders 12 Eco-Friendly Container Ships In $2.3 Billion DealHMM, South Korea’s largest shipping company, has placed an order for twelve eco-friendly container ships with domestic shipbuilders in a deal worth 3.05 trillion won ($2.3 billion).
The 13,000 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit) vessels will be constructed by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and Hanwha Ocean, and all will be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG).
The order marks HMM’s first major domestic shipbuilding investment in seven years and forms part of the company’s mid-to-long-term growth strategy, announced last year, which focuses on fleet expansion and meeting stricter carbon emission regulations.
According to classification society DNV, LNG fuel can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 23%, nitrogen oxides by over 80%, and sulfur oxides by more than 99% compared with conventional fuels.
The new vessels will supplement HMM’s existing fleet, which includes nine methanol-fuelled and two LNG-fuelled container ships. The company aims to strengthen its environmental credentials while increasing shipping capacity.
HMM has a history of large-scale domestic orders. In 2018, it commissioned twenty ships, twelve 24,000-TEU vessels and eight 16,000-TEU vessels, for around 3.1532 trillion won.
Further orders followed, including twelve 13,000-TEU ships in 2021 at 1.7776 trillion won, and nine 9,000-TEU methanol-fuelled ships in 2023 for 1.4128 trillion won.
Company sources said the new investment will help HMM expand its fleet and strengthen its eco-friendly operations. They added that HMM will keep investing in fleet growth and alternative fuels under its 2030 mid-term plan.
Analysts noted that the order will benefit South Korea’s shipbuilding sector, which has been recovering after several years of cyclical downturns, driven by rising global demand for low-emission vessels.
Clarkson Research data shows that about half of all vessels ordered last year were powered by alternative fuels, with LNG accounting for 70% of those orders.

Valaris Lands $140M Drilling Deal With Bp In EgyptNew York-listed offshore drilling company Valaris Limited has won a five-well contract with Bp Exploration Delta Limited for drillship Valaris DS-12 in Egypt.
The deal is expected to commence in the second quarter 2026 and has an estimated duration of 350 days.
The estimated total contract value, inclusive of a mobilization fee, is approximately $140m. The contract also includes three option wells.
“We are pleased that DS-12 will return to Egypt with bp, building on our successful exploration campaign together. With this award, we continue to execute our commercial strategy, having now contracted all four drillships that have near-term availability. Looking ahead, we expect to secure additional attractive work for our high-specification drillships,” said Anton Dibowitz, president and chief executive officer.
Valaris operates a rig fleet of ultra-deepwater drillships, versatile semisubmersibles and shallow-water jackups.

The U.S. is one week away from imposing port fees on certain vessels with links to China, a move expected to cost the top 10 carriers $3.2 billion next year as President Donald Trump seeks to address China’s growing dominance on the high seas.
“While some observers believe the October 14 deadline may be extended — or even scrapped — as part of broader negotiations, the uncertainty has already unsettled carriers, adding another layer of geopolitical risk to fleet deployment strategies,” S&P said in a report this week.
Trump’s administration said fees imposed on ships built, owned or operated by Chinese entities will help pay to revive U.S. shipbuilding. A law to direct that long-term funding is making its way through the U.S. Congress with strong bipartisan support.
In an update late last week, the U.S. Trade Representative put ship owners on notice that they, not the agency, are responsible for establishing if the fees apply.
“The burden for determining if a vessel owes the fee is on the operator, NOT CBP,” USTR said.
It also said fees must be paid through the Department of the Treasury’s Pay.gov website, not at the port of entry.
Vessels owned or operated by a Chinese entity will face a flat fee of $80 per net tonnage per voyage to the U.S. Non-Chinese operators of Chinese-built ships will be charged the higher amount of either $23 per net tonnage or $154 per 20-foot equivalent unit capacity. Both fees are imposed on a ship no more than five times a year, maritime technology and data provider Alphaliner said.
Following intense industry push back, USTR significantly eased fees from initial proposals, exempted many U.S.-based operators and extended the timeline for fees on liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers.
On the other hand, it expanded fees to include any non-U.S. built roll-on/roll-off auto carriers – with exceptions for U.S.-flagged ships.
Alphaliner estimated that Chinese carrier COSCO 601919, including its OOCL fleet, is most exposed to the fees.
COSCO’s fees could be as much as $1.53 billion next year – nearly half of the $3.2 billion projected for the top 10 cargo carriers, it said.
Many other carriers, including France’s CMA CGM, said they re-deployed Chinese-built ships to avoid the fees.
Meanwhile, Beijing has responded. Premier Li Qiang signed a decree pledging countermeasures against any discriminatory measures on Chinese ships or crews.
Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping are slated to meet at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit scheduled for late October through November 1 in South Korea.
Last year, U.S. shipyards built fewer than 10 commercial ships. China shipyards, many of which build both commercial and military vessels, turned out well over 1,000.
