Csp Iberian Valencia Terminal To Gain Konecranes Hybrid Rtgs
The order with Konecranes was booked in February 2025, with delivery to the Port of Valencia scheduled for March 2026.
The new cranes will be added to the fleet of 11 Konecranes hybrid RTGs that CSP Valencia already has in operation at its terminals in Valencia and Bilbao.
The new equipment is expected to significantly reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions compared to conventional diesel-powered RTGs.
The seven new cranes come equipped with Active Load Control (ALC), Gantry Collision Prevention and Truck Lift Prevention, enhancing operational efficiency and safety at the Valencia terminal.
“This investment is another important step in our journey towards zero tailpipe port operations,” said Gustavo Ferrer Soriano, General Manager at CSP Iberian Valencia.

“Many port operators on the Iberian Peninsula and the Canary Islands are now in full transition to more sustainable operations – this is already our third agreement for the region announced in 2025,” said Darryn Scheepers, EMEA Sales Director, Konecranes, Port Solutions.
“The growing uptake of our hybrid drive technology speaks for itself – this is the way to achieve high operational performance while reaching sustainability goals.”
Last month, Konecranes attained the IEC 62443-4-1 cybersecurity certification for Port Solutions and Industrial Equipment products offered to container handling, shipyards, process industries and general manufacturing customers.

Indonesia is planning to import around 3.1 million metric tons of sugar for industrial use in 2026, Tatang Yuliono, a senior official at the country’s coordinating ministry overseeing food, said on Tuesday.
The government also plans to allow a separate import quota of 508,360 tons of sugar for industries that export their products, he said.
The import allowance, which mostly involves raw sugar, is in line with expected demand from manufacturers, Tatang told reporters, adding that there were no plans to import sugar for household consumption.
In 2025, Indonesia planned to issue a total import quota of 4.39 million tons for raw sugar but halted the release of import permits in September after sugarcane farmers complained they were struggling to compete with foreign suppliers.
The government had issued permits for 4.19 million tons imports out of the 2025 quota before it stopped permit issuance for the rest of the year.

Aramco Taps Saipem For Offshore Work In $600M DealSaipem has been awarded two offshore contracts in Saudi Arabia, known as Contract Release Purchase Orders (CRPO), under its existing Long-Term Agreement with Aramco.
The first contract (CRPO 162), with a duration of 32 months, encompasses the Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Installation (EPCI) of approximately 34 km of pipeline, with diameters of 20” and 30", and related works on topside structures at the Berri and Abu Safah oil fields.
The second contract (CRPO 165), lasting 12 months, includes subsea interventions at Marjan field and the EPC of 300 m of onshore pipeline and associated tie-ins.
For the offshore operations Saipem will employ its construction vessels that are currently deployed in the region.
The fabrication activities related to the projects will be executed at Saipem’s Saudi fabrication yard, Saipem Taqa Al-Rushaid Fabricators Co. Ltd., in Dammam, aiming to increase and develop the capabilities of local industry.
The award of these new contracts strengthens Saipem’s presence in Saudi Arabia and further consolidates its relationship with Aramco.

The Manila International Container Terminal (MICT), the flagship facility of International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI) and the Philippines’ leading international trade gateway, handled a record three million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in 2025—the first time the terminal has reached that level in a single year.
The record container was handled on December 22, when the terminal serviced the container vessel Ever Bliss, operated by Evergreen Marine Corp., carrying cargo for Universal Robina Corp.
Christian Lozano, MICT chief executive officer, said the result reflected the terminal’s capacity to handle higher volumes while maintaining service levels during the peak season. “Handling three million TEUs shows how the MICT has kept pace with rising demand through continued operational improvements and capacity expansion,” he said.

The increase in volume coincided with sustained investments in equipment and infrastructure during the year. These included the deployment of hybrid rubber-tired gantry cranes, the addition of terminal tractors to support higher throughput, and the terminal’s initial exploration of electric terminal tractors under its modernization program.
Construction is progressing on the terminal’s eighth berth, which includes a 300-meter quay and a combined quay and yard development covering 12 hectares. Of this total area, 6.5 hectares are already operational. Designed with a 15-meter depth, Berth 8 will be able to accommodate container vessels with 18,000 TEU capacities, with delivery of three quay cranes scheduled for 2027.
Once the berth expansion is completed, the MICT’s annual handling capacity is expected to rise to 3.5 million TEUs.
“Our priority is to deliver consistent and efficient service to customers and ensure cargo continues to move reliably as volumes grow,” Lozano said.
MICT accounts for about 70 percent of Manila port volumes and remains the country’s largest and busiest container terminal, serving as a primary gateway for international cargo entering and leaving the Philippines.

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority announced a $300 million competitive solicitation on Friday to support maritime port development projects aimed at strengthening the state’s offshore wind supply chain, even as the broader industry grapples with significant regulatory and financial challenges.
The Port Infrastructure Request for Proposals will fund upgrades to load bearing capacity, wharf extensions, and other improvements designed to support offshore wind manufacturing, staging, and logistics while maintaining multi-use flexibility for container handling, vessel repair, and other commercial activities.
“To continue building out New York’s maritime assets as well as the offshore wind sector, we need ports capable of supporting multiple industries and technologies,” said NYSERDA President and CEO Doreen M. Harris. “This solicitation will facilitate port development to support offshore wind projects through investments in multi-purpose ports that can withstand demand fluctuations for products and services from any market, helping to ensure stability, while driving economic development opportunities over the near- and long-term for New York.”
The announcement comes as the offshore wind industry faces mounting pressures. A federal judge recently struck down the Trump administration’s directive to halt federal approvals for new wind energy projects, finding the agencies’ implementation of the order unlawful and arbitrary. New York led a coalition of 17 states and the District of Columbia in challenging the directive after the Interior Department ordered Norway’s Equinor to halt construction on its Empire Wind project off New York’s coast.
The broader industry has seen its project pipeline slashed from 45 projects to 23 between the third quarters of 2024 and 2025, with planned capacity dropping from 55.9 gigawatts to 25.4 gigawatts, according to the Energy Industries Council (EIC). The contraction stems primarily from policy changes under President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which requires projects to start construction by July 4, 2026 to secure tax-credit eligibility, or begin service by December 31, 2027. Roughly 83 percent of projects are not aligned with these deadlines.
Financial pressures have been severe. Stop-work costs reached up to $50 million per week on the Empire Wind project. Equinor reported a $763 million impairment related to Empire Wind 1 and South Brooklyn Marine Terminal development in its second quarter 2025 financial results, part of a larger $955 million write-down attributed to regulatory changes and increased tariff exposure.
Trade measures have compounded challenges, with duties of 10 to 15 percent on goods from the EU and UK and up to 50 percent on some steel and aluminum affecting critical components including blades, towers, nacelles and cables. The Department of Transportation’s decision to rescind $679 million in port grants has further slowed infrastructure upgrades.
New York’s $300 million solicitation will be available through multiple rounds until fully committed, repurposing $200 million previously allocated for the 2024 Offshore Wind Supportive Manufacturing and Logistics solicitation. Final proposals for round one are due by 3:00 p.m. ET on March 26, 2026.
“The investments into New York’s waterfronts are projected to create thousands of good-paying jobs across the state, and the New York State Department of Labor stands ready to develop our workforce to take advantage of these new opportunities,” said New York State Department of Labor Commissioner Roberta Reardon.
Rebecca Groundwater, EIC Global Head of External Affairs, emphasized the critical need for regulatory stability. “Policy clarity will be decisive in determining whether these projects move forward or stay in limbo,” she said. “Stable, predictable frameworks are what investors need to turn uncertainty into action and position the US to reclaim momentum in offshore wind development.”
Despite challenges, construction has resumed on the Empire Wind project and Equinor maintains its 2027 commercial operation target date for Empire Wind 1. The $5 billion project is designed to power 500,000 New York homes and includes redevelopment of the South Brooklyn Marine Terminal into what is set to become the nation’s largest dedicated port facility for offshore wind.

Kuwait will sign a contract next week with China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) to complete the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port project, Public Works Minister Noura Al-Mashaan said on Thursday.
The Central Agency for Public Tenders approved on December 1 a contract between the ministry and CCCC for engineering, procurement and construction of the port's first phase, according to the official gazette.
The contract is valued at 1.219 billion Kuwaiti dinars ($3.97 billion), a government document seen by Reuters showed.
Kuwait's prime minister will attend the signing ceremony with the Chinese side, Al-Mashaan said in a statement.
Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port, on Bubiyan Island in northern Kuwait, is a strategic project aimed at creating a secure regional corridor and commercial hub. China has sought to link it to its Belt and Road Initiative.
Kuwait hopes the project will support economic diversification, boost GDP and help restore its regional commercial and financial role. The government says about 50% of the first phase has been completed but gave no details on remaining work.
The port is among several mega-projects Kuwait is pursuing with Chinese support, including power and water plants, renewable energy and waste recycling projects, as well as new residential cities.
Kuwait signed several memorandums of understanding with China in 2023 during a visit to Beijing by then-Crown Prince Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, who became emir in December 2023.

Ictsi To Invest $175M In Major Rio Brasil Terminal ExpansionBrazil’s minister of ports and airports, Silvio Costa Filho, has announced a R$948m (around $175m) private investment to expand and modernize the operations of the International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) Rio Brasil Terminal at the Port of Rio de Janeiro.
The project, scheduled to run from 2025 to 2029, will increase the terminal’s operational capacity by 70.5%, from 440,000 TEUs per year to 750,000 TEUs annually.
Of the total investment, around R$414.4m will be allocated to infrastructure works, while R$533.5m will be used to acquire new equipment.
Planned improvements include the unification and expansion of storage yards, rearrangement of buildings to optimize internal flows, acquisition of new equipment for container handling, modernization of utility systems and electrical infrastructure, as well as investments in technology and automation.
Advanced access control, monitoring, and cargo management systems will also be deployed.
“It’s an investment of almost R$1 billion that will be essential for us to expand operations here at the port, going from 440 thousand to 750 thousand TEU and, in the future, perhaps reaching 1.2 million,” said minister Filho.
The expansion of the Rio Brasil Terminal will allow the terminal to continuously operate large vessels on the full berth, including new panamax and post-panamax vessels, up to 366 meters long and with a capacity of more than 13,000 TEUs.
Two new cranes, set to arrive by mid-2026, are designed to service vessels of up to 400 meters.
With additional yard capacity and new cranes becoming available in 2026, ICTSI Rio is already offering expanded capacity to customers.
Once fully implemented, the terminal is expected to operate at around 75% capacity utilization between 2029 and 2030, improving predictability, lowering logistics costs, and at the same time offering limited waiting times.
Commenting on ICTSI’s investment, Anders Kjeldsen, ICTSI’s vice president for the Americas, said “this project demonstrates our long-term commitment to the development of Brazilian logistics competitiveness.” ICTSI operates 34 terminals in 20 countries.

Germany’s container shipping firm Hapag-Lloyd has inked a $500m order with Chinese shipyard CIMC Raffles.
The Hamburg-based carrier has ordered eight 4,500-TEU container vessels, with deliveries set for 2028 and 2029. The investment volume amounts to more than $500m.
The ordered units will feature dual-fuel methanol engines, offering up to 30 percent greater efficiency than comparable older tonnage and the potential to cut as much as 350,000 metric tons of CO2e annually when using methanol propulsion.
The ships, which are part of Hapag-Lloyd’s first newbuild project involving this sustainable propulsion technology, will complement the growing portfolio of dual-fuel container ships in the company’s fleet: At present, a total of 37 dual-fuel liquefied natural gas (LNG) units that can also operate using biomethane are in operation or planned.
In addition, in April 2024, Hapag-Lloyd had already agreed with Seaspan Corporation to have five 10,100 TEU container ships converted to dual-fuel methanol propulsion in 2026 and 2027.
Moreover, in November 2024, Hapag-Lloyd had concluded an agreement with the Chinese energy producer Goldwind for the supply of 250,000 metric tons of green methanol per year.
Hapag-Lloyd also decided that another 14 newbuildings in the size classes 1,800 TEU (4 units), 3,500 TEU (6 units) and 4,500 TEU (4 units) will be chartered on a long-term basis. The ships will be delivered between 2027 and 2029.
In total the carrier is investing in 22 new ships in the segment with a capacity of less than 5,000 TEU.
“Continuously modernizing our fleet is firmly anchored in our Strategy 2030. The new ships will help replace older tonnage, further decarbonize the Hapag-Lloyd fleet, and reduce our dependence on the charter market. What’s more, operating these state-of-the-art ships will be much more cost-efficient,” said Rolf Habben Jansen, chief executive officer of Hapag-Lloyd AG.
With a fleet of 305 container ships and a total transport capacity of 2.5 million TEU, Hapag-Lloyd plans by 2030 to reduce the absolute greenhouse gas emissions of its fleet operations by around one third compared to 2022. The next target is to achieve net-zero fleet operations by 2045.

The investment programme, running from 2025 to 2029, will increase annual capacity by more than 70%, from 440,000 teu to 750,000 teu, positioning the terminal as a key logistics gateway for Brazil’s Southeast and Midwest regions.
Brazil’s minister of ports and airports, Silvio Costa Filho, said the project underlines the government’s focus on private investment to strengthen the country’s port system. Of the total spend, around R$414m will go into infrastructure works, with a further R$533m earmarked for new equipment.
Planned upgrades include expanded and unified container yards, redesigned internal layouts to improve cargo flows, new ship-to-shore and yard equipment, and modernised electrical and utility systems. ICTSI will also roll out new automation, access control and cargo management systems, while upgrading facilities to meet Brazilian customs requirements.
Costa Filho said the expansion could eventually take capacity beyond 1.2m teu, adding that the project would also support job creation and income generation in the region.
From an operational standpoint, the upgraded terminal will be able to handle new panamax and post-panamax vessels, including ships up to 366 m and more than 13,000 teu. The first two new cranes are due to arrive by mid-2026 and are designed to work vessels of up to 400 m in length.
ICTSI Rio Brasil Terminal chief executive Roberto Lopes said the expansion will help relieve pressure on Santos, Brazil’s busiest port, by redistributing container flows. He added that the project builds on ICTSI’s wider logistics investments in Brazil, including more than R$190m already spent on the Rio-Minas and Rio-Suzano corridors, with a focus on rail connections.
With additional cranes and yard space coming online from 2026, ICTSI is already marketing the extra capacity. Full implementation is expected to see utilisation settle at around 75% by 2029–2030, improving predictability, reducing waiting times and lowering logistics costs. Hapag-Lloyd Orders Eight Methanol Dual-Fuel Boxships In $500M Newbuild PushHapag-Lloyd has firmed up its fleet renewal plans with an order for eight dual-fuel methanol container ships at China’s CIMC Raffles, alongside agreements to charter a further 14 vessels on long-term contracts.
The German liner major said the eight newbuildings will each have a capacity of 4,500 teu, with deliveries scheduled for 2028 and 2029. The investment totals more than $500m and marks the company’s first newbuild project based on methanol propulsion.
The ships will be fitted with dual-fuel engines capable of running on methanol and conventional fuel. Hapag-Lloyd said the vessels will be up to 30% more efficient than older ships in the same size range and could cut emissions by as much as 350,000 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent per year when operating on methanol.
The order adds to a growing alternative-fuel portfolio at the carrier, which already has 37 LNG dual-fuel ships in operation or on order, with the ability to run on biomethane.
Alongside the firm order, the Hamburg-based carrier has agreed to charter 14 additional feeder ships on a long-term basis. These include four vessels of 1,800 teu, six of 3,500 teu and four more of 4,500 teu, with deliveries spread between 2027 and 2029. Together with the CIMC Raffles order, the carrier is investing in 22 ships below 5,000 teu, as previously outlined earlier this year.
Chief executive Rolf Habben Jansen said fleet renewal remains central to the company’s Strategy 2030. “The new ships will help replace older tonnage, further decarbonise the Hapag-Lloyd fleet and reduce our dependence on the charter market,” he said, adding that operating costs would also be lower.
The methanol newbuilds sit alongside other steps taken by the carrier to cut emissions. Hapag-Lloyd has agreed with Seaspan to convert five 10,100 teu ships to methanol dual-fuel capability in 2026 and 2027, and last year signed a supply deal with China’s Goldwind for 250,000 tonnes of green methanol per year. The fuel mix of bio- and e-methanol is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 70%.
Hapag-Lloyd is targeting a one-third cut in absolute fleet emissions by 2030, compared with 2022 levels, and net-zero operations by 2045. As of the end of September, the carrier operated over 300 ships totalling about 2.5m teu, ranking it as the world’s fifth-largest container line.

800-Ton Goliath Crane Takes Shape In Port Of ChioggiaItaly’s Cimolai Technology reached a major construction milestone on one of the largest crane projects currently underway in Europe, completing the lifting and erection of the main girder of the first of two massive 800-ton rail-mounted Goliath cranes at the Port of Chioggia.The lift, carried out at Cimolai Technology’s Chioggia facility in the Val da Rio port area, marks the conclusion of a critical technical phase in a complex, international heavy-engineering project. Once completed, each crane will stand nearly 110 meters tall with a span of 118 meters, placing them among the largest rail-mounted Goliath cranes ever built for naval and heavy industrial applications.The first crane is scheduled to be fully assembled by the end of December 2025, while erection and assembly of the second unit will be completed by spring 2026. Sea transport of the cranes—one barge load-out per crane—is planned for summer 2026.
Heavy-Lift Capability for Naval Construction
Cimolai Technology, a global specialist in custom lifting and handling systems, is responsible for the full scope of engineering, manufacturing, assembly, testing and delivery of both cranes. Designed for heavy naval lifting operations, the cranes can operate independently or in tandem, providing exceptional flexibility for shipyard operations.When working together, the two cranes will have a combined lifting capacity of up to 1,600 tonnes, enabling the handling of large ship sections and heavy modules typically associated with naval construction and large commercial shipbuilding programs.
Fully Assembled, Shipped by Sea

This approach minimizes disruption at the final destination shipyard in Monfalcone, near Trieste, allowing operations there to continue uninterrupted while ensuring rapid commissioning upon arrival.The project highlights the integrated capabilities of the Cimolai Technology Group. ACCS – Armando Cimolai Centro Servizi is responsible for fabricating the structural steel components, while Cimolai Technology oversees design, construction and testing. The Val da Rio logistics and production area serves as a centralized hub for pre-assembly, verification and shipment.Covering more than 45,000 square meters, the Chioggia facility is located within an area designated for port-related industrial activities under the Port Master Plan. The site has become a model for cooperation between industry, port authorities and local institutions.The milestone also reinforces Chioggia’s growing role in the special industrial cargo segment. Snam To Buy Igneo’S Interest In Olt-Offshore Lng Toscana In €126M DealItaly-headquartered Snam agreed to buy Igneo Infrastructure Partners’ 48.2% interest in OLT – Offshore LNG Toscana S.p.A., operating the FSRU Toscana offshore Livorno.
According to Snam, the total consideration of the acquisition, including Igneo’s interest as well as the remaining part of the shareholder loan provided by Igneo to OLT, is equal to approximately €126m.
The closing of the transaction is expected within the first half of 2026 subject to customary regulatory approvals, including obtaining the necessary authorisations under applicable Italian antitrust and golden power regulations.
Once the transaction is completed, Snam – who is an existing co-shareholder in the business – said it will hold a total stake of 97.3%, resulting in the consolidation of OLT in Snam’s financial statements.
The FSRU located about 22 km offshore Livorno has an annual capacity of about 5 billion cubic meters (bcm), increased in the 2024 compared to the previous 3.75 bcm, and equal to almost 8% of Italy’s total gas demand.
“As of the end of November 2025, LNG imports in Italy reached 18.7 bcm, meeting approximately one third of overall domestic gas demand, with 205 vessels from more than 10 different countries reaching the five regasification terminals in the country,” said Snam’s chief executive officer Agostino Scornajenchi. “This transaction is therefore crucial in strengthening Snam’s leadership in the LNG business, which today plays a strategic role in guaranteeing Italy’s energy security.”
Snam is a European operator in natural gas infrastructure, focusing on three main business areas: transportation, storage, and regasification, whilst Igneo is a global mid-market infrastructure investment specialist which has been operating since 1994.

Asso.Subsea Wins Multi-Project Deal For Tennet’S 2Gw Grid Build-OutGreek offshore contractor Asso.subsea has secured a major spread of cable installation and protection work from France’s Nexans across three of TenneT’s flagship 2GW offshore transmission projects in the German North Sea. The awards cover the BalWin3, LanWin2 and LanWin4 developments, with offshore campaigns slated to run from 2027 through 2031.
The multi-year scope, with an undisclosed value, includes more than 650 km of offshore cable burial and over 60 km of nearshore laying and burial. Operations will be centred around the cable-laying vessel Atalanti, which is being outfitted with a modified turntable to handle Nexans’ four-cable bundle configuration — two 525 kV HVDC export cables, one metallic return line and a fibre-optic cable.
Asso.subsea will also deploy its trenching support fleet, including the newbuild Avra, due to join the company in early 2028. Burial work will combine jetting and mechanical trenching using the company’s AssoTrencher IV and AssoJet III systems, backed by full as-laid and as-buried survey coverage. The nearshore element of the projects will involve cable loading and transport from Nexans’ Norwegian facility, as well as beach pulls and simultaneous lay-and-bury operations — areas where Asso.subsea has built a strong track record.
Earlier this year, the company also secured nearshore cable installation scope for TenneT’s BalWin4, LanWin1, and LanWin5, located off the northwestern coast of Baltrum Island.
“These awards are a strong recognition of our ability to execute highly demanding scopes, from precision nearshore operations to deep-water burial campaigns,” said Alessandro Panico, director of business development at Asso.subsea. He added that the latest wins underscore the contractor’s long-running partnership with Nexans and its role in delivering Europe’s expanding offshore grid.
In related news, Enshore Subsea has been awarded a contract for the shallow water cable installation work on the three offshore grid connection systems. The UK-based subsea specialist will be responsible for installing the Wadden Sea sections, with work scheduled for 2027, 2029, and 2030.
