Power PlantThe
Australian Government
has selected
15 projects
with a total capacity of
4.2 GW/16.1 GWh
under Tender 8 of the Capacity Investment Scheme (CIS) (DCCEEW press release, 24/06/2026). These projects are expected to unlock AUD6bn (USD4.1bn) in private investment.
Most of the projects are located in
Queensland
(7 projects totalling 2,150 MW/8,413 MWh), followed by
Victoria
(3 projects, 875 MW/3,533 MWh),
New South Wales
(830 MW/2,270 MWh), and
South Australia
(2 projects awarded to Potentia Energy, 350 MW/1,408 MWh). Ampyr won the largest share (1,425 MW/5,163 MWh), ahead of Edify Energy (500 MW/2 GWh) and Potentia Energy (480 MW/1,928 MWh).
In May 2026, Australia had selected
19 projects
with a total capacity of
7.8 GW
under Tender 7 of the CIS. Tender 9 – NEM Generation, with an indicated capacity of 5 GW, opened on 25 May 2026 and bids close on 20 July 2026. Tender 10 – NEM Dispatchable Capacity is expected opened in June 2026 and is open until 18 August 2026, targeting a further
4 GW/16 GWh
of capacity.
Australia has set a target to reduce emissions to 62-70% below 2005 levels by 2035.
