Spain’s national railway infrastructure manager, ADIF, has formally joined the EULYNX Consortium, which is focussed on the future of railway signalling in Europe.

This move forms part of ADIF’s ongoing work to modernise and standardise railway signalling systems across its network.

EULYNX is a collaborative European initiative aimed at standardising interfaces and components used in railway signalling. Its objective is to facilitate greater interoperability between national systems and support the transition towards a more unified rail infrastructure across Europe.

Through its membership, ADIF plans to incorporate EULYNX’s modular and interoperable design principles into its infrastructure projects. These standards are expected to simplify the integration of new technologies and equipment, supporting more efficient and adaptable operations.

ADIF’s adoption of EULYNX specifications will assist the company in addressing technical challenges such as system obsolescence, fragmented components, and high maintenance costs.

The use of standardised signalling architecture is anticipated to support long-term sustainability by enabling easier updates, reducing overall lifecycle costs, and allowing for more flexible deployment of new technologies.

As part of the consortium, ADIF will also contribute to the further development of EULYNX standards, drawing on its experience within the Spanish rail network.

The collaboration reinforces the broader European effort to create a more integrated and efficient railway system.
