RailAdventure UK, a specialist transport company in the West Midlands, will operate the Coventry Very Light Rail (CVLR) vehicle for the on-road test in the city centre in May and June this year.
CVLR is a new and innovative transportation system that is using the region’s advanced automotive expertise to provide a flexible and affordable alternative to traditional light rail. It features a modern vehicle and a unique, revolutionary track design, aiming to offer a reliable, frequent, and eco-friendly ‘hop-on, hop-off’ service for Coventry residents.
RailAdventure UK has earned its reputation by providing support services for rail operations, moving trains, testing them, and running passenger services. The company has now secured the contract that will see a father-and-son team driving the vehicle and its passengers on the 220-metre demonstration track.
Richard Parker, Mayor of the West Midlands and West Midlands Combined Authority chair, said:
“Very light rail is a revolutionary technology being developed and delivered here in our region – so it’s right that the operator for this first test track should be a West Midlands company.
“The speed at which we can move from starting work to running a tram through Coventry city center shows the world how fast and efficiently a tram system can be installed. CVLR will play a huge role in delivering on my vision to connect more communities with affordable and accessible public transport.”
Councillor Jim O’Boyle, Cabinet Member for Jobs, Regeneration, and Climate Change at Coventry City Council, said:
“This is a significant step in our ongoing testing of Very Light Rail, and it’s fantastic that we’re working with RailAdventureUK to demonstrate this innovative model and prove the benefits it will bring to Coventry.
“Very Light Rail is just the beginning of our plans to revolutionise transport in our city, tackle climate change, improve air quality, and provide a reliable and accessible travel option.
“We will be running Very Light Rail for four weeks, and residents will have the opportunity to experience this one-of-a-kind vehicle and track system and provide feedback on the experience.

Severn Trent Water ‘Understands Frustration’ After Two Sets Of Roadworks Appear 100M ApartSevern Trent Water has apologised after unauthorised roadworks were set up 100m from another set of temporary traffic lights in Staffordshire. The utility firm failed to secure a permit before starting work to fix a damaged manhole in Werrington Road near to the junction with Winston Place, in Bucknall but its teams were then called away and the lights, which were not in-sync with each other, were left in situ, causing congestion and hour-long delays, says the Stoke Sentinel.
Severn Trent was already carrying out emergency repairs to a burst water pipe a short distance away at the junction of Werrington Road and Northfleet Street. The company has admitted that the permit needed for the second set of roadworks was not submitted to Stoke-on-Trent City Council in time.
A Severn Trent spokesperson told Highways News: “This week has seen a lot of disruption in the area, due to a series of unconnected issues and for this we have apologised. Our teams have been working hard around the clock in difficult circumstances to get everything back to normal.
“On Werrington Road on Wednesday we were attempting to carry out emergency repairs to a damaged manhole. Two-way traffic lights for the repair had been set up to keep our crews and public safe, but our teams were then forced to leave site and unfortunately in this commotion, the required permit for those works was not submitted to the council in time. We have been communicating with the council and highways on this matter and returned to the site on Thursday, with a full permit, to quickly complete the emergency manhole repair works and co-ordinated traffic management plans to keep disruption to a minimum. “This was a separate set of works to an emergency repair of a burst water pipe – which has a valid permit – taking place a short distance away. We do understand how frustrating these kinds of repairs are and would like to thank everyone for their understanding and patience.”

Potka Begins Rs 16.7M Road Project And Unveils New Rural WorksSardar said rural development in Potka had accelerated significantly under Chief Minister Hemant Soren, with village transformation gaining strong momentum. He added that projects were being prioritised based on local needs, including bathing ghats in ponds, paver-block roads and concrete irrigation drains. These works, he said, would serve as milestones in Potka’s holistic rural progress.
He further alleged that Jharkhand lagged behind during 19 years of BJP rule, while the present government was ensuring development reached every village. Urging villagers to make full use of government schemes, he expressed confidence that Jharkhand was on course to join the ranks of prosperous states.
Hundreds of villagers, including former councillor Chandravati Mahato, Hiramani Murmu, activist Sunil Mahato, Mukhiya Kartik Murmu, Deputy Mukhiya Kushnu Murmu and Panchayat Samiti member Dukhu Mardi, attended the event.
Projects launched included bathing ghats in Balidih, Hakai and Mukundpur; paver-block roads in Chhota Bandua, Neemdih, Khairpal, Mudsai and Haldipokhar West Panchayat; and irrigation drains in Jamdih and Datobeda.

175T Bridge Lifted Into Place Over River Trent In NottinghamA new pedestrian and cycle bridge has been installed across the River Trent in Nottingham after engineers used a large crawler crane to lift the 87m-long structure into place.
The 175t steel span was hoisted into position by a CC6800 crawler crane, which was assembled onsite and rose to a height of 75m. The lift was carried out from temporary supports and manoeuvred onto permanent abutments on a carefully choreographed schedule involving contractor Balfour Beatty, specialist lift firm Mammoet and fabricator Briton Fabricators.
Because of the bridge’s mass, the crane operated from purpose-built tracks and large counterweights. Project teams said the operation was completed without incident, marking a major construction milestone for the scheme.
The bridge will form the final element of Nottingham City Council’s Transforming Cities Fund programme, a package of projects launched in 2020 after the council secured more than £160M of central government funding intended to improve inter-city connectivity and encourage lower‑carbon travel.
When finished, the crossing is intended to strengthen active-travel links across the city, providing walking and cycling routes that organisers say will be particularly useful for people travelling to sporting venues and riverside amenities on both sides of the Trent.
Work now continues on approach ramps, steps, walkways, a smaller bridge over Trent Basin and surrounding landscaping. The city council has scheduled the opening for late spring 2026.
The new bridge follows other recent local investments aimed at improving sustainable travel, but it also comes amid wider debate over how councils should allocate government transport funding between walking, cycling, buses and road projects. Supporters say schemes such as this increase options for non-car journeys and reduce carbon emissions; critics argue that outcomes depend on how the new infrastructure is integrated with wider transport networks and services.
Nottingham City Council executive member for regional development, growth and transport Linda Woodings said: “This is a big milestone moment for our project to build a new walking and cycling bridge over the river Trent – it was thrilling to be at the riverside and see the new bridge land on its supports just as planned. I want to say a huge thank you to all the many people involved and I know I speak for everyone locally when I say that I can’t wait to try it out come spring.”
Balfour Beatty project director Sunil Karra said: “We’re extremely proud to have safely and successfully completed this major milestone today, with the new 175t bridge now in position across the River Trent. This complex bridge lift was made possible through detailed planning and close collaboration with our project partners and the Council.
“We now look forward to completing the remaining works and connecting communities on both sides of the river.”
Rushcliffe Borough Council cabinet portfolio holder for leisure and wellbeing, ICT and member development Jonathan Wheeler said: “It is good to see another major step towards the opening of the bridge that will create more connectivity for residents on both sides of the river for further opportunities to travel in a more sustainable way.
“Creating this new link for cyclists and pedestrians will create easier access to nearby open spaces in Lady Bay and West Bridgford and our local sports grounds and leisure facilities, encouraging more people to make lower carbon journeys.”

Long-Awaited £200M Lincoln Ring Road Completion To Go Ahead Following Government Sign-OffThe secretary of state has approved the legal orders for the long-awaited North Hykeham Relief Road, clearing a key hurdle for Lincolnshire County Council to begin construction of a new dual carriageway that will complete a ring road around Lincoln.
Councillors now expect to appoint a contractor in the coming months, with the choice due to be discussed by the council’s Highways and Transport Scrutiny Committee in December and voted on by the county executive in early January. If that timetable holds, work could begin early next year, according to the council.
Balfour Beatty was appointed to a design and build contract for the road in 2022 through the Scape framework, but it now appears the council will be re-tendering for the job.
The relief road will link the A46 Pennells Roundabout to the Lincoln Eastern Bypass and includes a series of new roundabouts — at South Hykeham Road, Brant Road and Grantham Road — together with bridges at Station Road and over the River Witham. Other elements include an extra arm and signals at the A46 Hykeham Roundabout, an A15 Sleaford Roundabout addition, a Wath Lane non-motorised user (NMU) crossing and a realignment of Viking Way.
Lincolnshire County Council estimates the scheme will cost between £180M and £208M.

Council highways executive member Michael Cheyne said the secretary of state’s approval was “fantastic news” that moved the project closer to construction and thanked the project team that worked through the public inquiry process.
Proponents argue the road will help economic growth across the county, reduce congestion in North Hykeham and Lincoln, improve access to central Lincoln and enhance road safety. Opponents of similar schemes elsewhere have warned that new roads can encourage more traffic – a phenomenon known as induced demand – and underline the importance of complementary measures such as public transport improvements and active travel provision. The scheme includes NMU facilities intended to support walking and cycling.
The relief road has been under consideration for around two decades. Initial route consultations took place in 2005 and 2006, with the preferred alignment established in 2006. In recent years the project secured preparatory funding, received a £110M Department for Transport allocation in November 2020. Planning permission was granted in May 2024 before legal orders were approved by the county executive in July. This year has seen a public inquiry held in July and archaeological works since September.
Cheyne said: “This is fantastic news for the North Hykeham Relief Road project and the people of Lincolnshire, since it means we’re one step closer to starting construction early next year as planned.
“Now that we’ve been given the all clear by Government to move forward, the next step is to officially appoint a contractor. This will be a topic of discussion at our Highways and Transport Scrutiny Committee meeting in December, and then voted on by Executive in early January.
“In the meantime, I want thank everyone involved in getting us to this stage – in particular, all of the project team involved in getting us through the public inquiry process. The Secretary of State’s decision to give the relief road the go-ahead is a testament to all the hard work they’ve put in up to this stage.”

$200 Million Road Maintenance Blitz Across Greater SydneyThe New South Wales Government has fast-tracked $200 million to deliver pothole and road maintenance across some of Sydney’s busiest corridors.
With more than 5100 potholes already repaired across Sydney’s roads this past August and September, the new funding aims to further improve the safety, reliability, and resilience of the network by ensuring faster repairs, fewer potholes, and reduced vehicle damage.
Work under the program will be prioritised based on traffic volumes, the location and severity of the pothole, and the road’s importance for freight, bus services, and emergency access.
In 2024, 1.57 million hours of maintenance work were completed across Sydney’s roads, resulting in 10,879 potholes repaired, nearly one million square metres of road resurfaced and 344,000 linear metres of new line markings installed.

$200M For Sydney Road Maintenance BlitzThe NSW Government is set to launch a $200 million pothole and road maintenance blitz across Greater Sydney’s busiest transport corridors.
This investment brings Greater Sydney’s total road maintenance funding for 2025-26 to $488 million, improving the safety, reliability, and resilience of the network by ensuring faster repairs, fewer potholes, and reduced vehicle damage.
At the same time as the State Government delivers the new roads that growing communities need, it is ensuring that existing roads remain safe. More than 5,100 potholes have already been repaired across Sydney’s roads in August and September alone.

Importantly, around 15 per cent of pothole repairs are identified through public reports, which can be made to Transport for NSW online here, or by phoning 131 700.
This announcement will allow the government to continue building a fairer, safer road network across Sydney.
Premier of New South Wales, Chris Minns, said that he understands how frustrating it is for drivers to deal with damaged roads and potholes, especially after one of Sydney’s wettest winters on record.
“This $200 million blitz will help make sure our roads are safer and more reliable, while supporting the crews who are already working hard every day to keep Sydney moving,” Minns said.
“Our government is getting on with building the new roads that growing communities need, but we’re also making sure that the roads people use every day are maintained to a standard that keeps them safe.

Treasurer of New South Wales, Daniel Mookhey, said that building and maintaining roads is essential to the prosperity of NSW.

“It helps give families certainty, and workers and businesses the confidence to plan for the future as they go about their activities today.”
NSW Minister for Roads, Jenny Aitchison, said that this $200 million acceleration of funding proves the State Government is serious about Building a Better NSW.
“Not only are we delivering new major road projects, we’re also fixing the roads families rely on every single day,” Aitchison said.
“This work might not get ribbon cuttings, but we take enormous pride in delivering safe, reliable travel for everyone who uses our road network.
“This blitz for Sydney’s key corridors is an investment in reliable, resilient infrastructure that keeps the city moving.
“I want to thank our incredible maintenance teams whose work makes a real difference to every Sydney driver’s daily journey.”
Transport for NSW Deputy Secretary Road Maintenance and Resilience, Matt Fuller, said that crews are winning the battle against potholes and weather damage.
“Millions of people depend on our roads daily – this is why maintenance is absolutely critical,” Fuller said.
“After a massive year of repair work, we’re entering the optimal season for major pavement upgrades. Our frontline teams work around the clock, through storms and crashes, to keep Sydney connected.”

Punjab Upgrades 149 Km Of Roads In Sunam At Rs 401 MillionAddressing gatherings in the villages of Shahpur Kalan, Longowal, Mander Kalan, Ubhawal, and Eilwal, Arora announced that the 48 roads under this project will be completed within the next seven to eight months. For the first time, contractors will also be responsible for maintenance of these rural roads for five years post-construction, ensuring sustained quality and accountability.
Arora emphasised that no compromises will be made on construction standards, and urged residents to actively monitor progress to ensure the works are carried out to their satisfaction.
Reflecting on the achievements of the Bhagwant Singh Mann-led Punjab Government, Arora said the administration had made comprehensive development its core mission over the last three and a half years, focusing on healthcare, education, and infrastructure.
“The people of Punjab voted for progress, and we are working tirelessly to deliver on that promise with sincerity and results, not rhetoric,” he said, adding that past administrations had slowed Punjab’s growth through misguided policies.
Arora noted that the villagers’ long-standing demand for better connectivity was finally being fulfilled under the current government. “Projects left incomplete for 75 years are now being prioritised and executed,” he remarked, pledging to complete all pending works within a year.
Drawing inspiration from his father, Babu Bhagwan Das, Arora said, “My father taught me that politics is not about showmanship, but about meaningful work.” He reaffirmed his commitment to serving Sunam with transparency and dedication, stating that better infrastructure would accelerate economic and social development in the region.
Congratulating residents on the launch, the minister also expressed confidence in the Aam Aadmi Party’s performance in the upcoming Tarn Taran by-election, predicting a decisive victory for the party’s candidate.

Earlier, the world’s highest motorable road was known to be Umling La, at 19,024 feet. The Mig la pass, constructed by project Himank, holds immense strategic significance as the third vital axis from Hanle to Fukche, while also helping boost tourism.

Earlier, a BRO team also unfurled the tricolour at the peak of the pass.The newly built Likaru-Mig La-Fukche road holds immense strategic significance as the third vital axis from Hanle to Fukche, while also boosting tourism in Ladakh and upliftment of India’s First Villages.

Umling La Pass, which held the record previously, is also located in Ladakh at an altitude of 19,024 feet. Meanwhile, the whole Hanle-Chumar road in Ladakh is now open to the public, marking a significant milestone in strategic infrastructure development.This 91 km road, constructed by Project Himank of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), connects Hanle to the border village of Chumar, traversing extreme altitudes between 14,500 and 17,200 feet, including the challenging Salsa La Pass.
In a post on social media X, ADG PI said that the Hanle-Chumar road will enhance connectivity for the Armed Forces along the borders, boosting operational readiness, facilitating access to attractions like Hanle Observatory, Kyun Tso Lake, Chilling Tso Lake, and Tso Moriri, and promoting local tourism.”

Pmrda To Widen 50-Km Road Along Metro For Rs 6.28 BnThe Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) will spend Rs 6.28 billion to widen an existing four-lane stretch into a six-lane, 50-km cement concrete road running parallel to the upcoming Hinjewadi–Shivajinagar Metro Line 3. The project aims to enhance connectivity, improve traffic flow, and complement Pune’s metro infrastructure.
According to PMRDA officials, the project will cover 25 km in each direction along the elevated Metro line. It includes four-lane carriageways, parking lanes, bus bays, lay-bys, utility ducts, upgraded pedestrian facilities, cycle tracks, and landscaped medians. Utility shifting, beautification, and electrification work are also part of the plan.
A senior PMRDA engineering official said, “We will widen the remaining four-lane stretches to six lanes, requiring land acquisition. A consultant will be appointed for planning, surveys, design, reporting, and to oversee construction and post-construction work.”
The cost estimate includes potential land acquisition and may be revised following the consultant’s study. Trees along the route will either be cut or transplanted as required. The tender for the project was issued on September 25, 2025.
The project is expected to significantly enhance road and metro integration, providing safer and smoother travel for commuters and supporting Pune’s urban mobility goals.

£134M Melton Mowbray Distributor Road Marks Completion Of All 6 New RoundaboutsWork on Melton Mowbray’s new bypass reached a key milestone this week with the opening of the final two roundabouts on the 7.2km distributor road.
Leicestershire County Council said the A606 Nottingham Road and B676 Saxby Road junctions were completed at the weekend and associated road closures have been lifted, leaving all six roundabouts along the route open to motorists. The road, being built by Galliford Try, is the county council’s largest-ever highways project with a reported budget of £134M.
When finished, the distributor will run from the A606 Nottingham Road near St Bartholomew’s Way in the north, curve round the east of Melton Mowbray and rejoin the A606 near Burton Lazars. The route is intended to allow through traffic to bypass the town centre, easing congestion along existing town streets.

Construction began with preparatory work early in 2023 and main construction started in May that year. The county council says the scheme is progressing well and is on track to open to traffic in spring 2026. Some temporary traffic‑calming measures currently remain in place while finishing works are completed.
Planners say the road will provide improved access to new housing sites, local attractions such as Twinlakes Park, John Ferneley College and surrounding villages and include provisions for safer walking and cycling. The distributor is part of a wider strategy by the council to unlock housing and economic development in Melton Mowbray that has been constrained by traffic issues.
As the scheme nears completion, local residents will be invited to suggest a name for the new road, details of which are due to be announced later in the year.
Supporters of the project point to reduced town‑centre congestion and improved road safety as likely benefits. Critics have previously raised concerns on environmental impact and the effect of new road capacity on traffic levels; such considerations form part of the ongoing public debate about how best to balance development, transport and conservation in and around Melton.
With the final roundabouts in place, attention will turn to the remaining construction phases and the council’s measures to tie the new route into existing local roads and active‑travel networks before full opening next spring.
Leicestershire County Council lead member for roads and transport Charles Whitford said: “The completion of these final roundabouts is a major milestone and I’m proud to see this large-scale county council project reach its final stages.
“We look forward to early 2026, when the road opens fully to motorists.

Early Works Contractor Appointed For $128M Road ProjectPenrith City Council has appointed a contractor to deliver preliminary works on the proposed upgrade of Dunheved Road in Sydney.
Georgiou Group will carry out the early works phase that will run for six to nine months. These works will help to prepare the site for the main construction phase and will consist of the completion of the final civic design ,security utility approvals and investigations, site and geotechnical investigations, detailed traffic management planning, as well as sewer and drainage works.
Dunheved Road is one of the busiest road corridors in Penrith.
The proposed upgrade of Dunheved Road will look to reduce congestion, improve capacity and enhance safety along a four-kilometre section, between Richmond Road and the Christie Street/Werrington Road intersection.

Additionally, several other signalised intersections will be delivered at Greenbank Drive (west and east), Lavin Crescent, Henry Lawson Avenue, and John Batman Avenue.
A new two lane eastbound bridge across Werrington Creek and new shared path bridge will also form part of the project.
The Federal Government has committed $128 million to upgrade Dunheved Road through the Infrastructure Investment Program.

$128M Bridge Program To Strengthen Transport InfrastructureJoint funding from the Federal and State governments will aim to strengthen bridges across Victoria, boosting road network capacity and improving efficiency for freight operators and farmers.
The jointly funded program of works will allow heavier loads to move more efficiently, while also preparing the network for the future as part of Victoria’s High-Productivity Freight Vehicle Network.
In Geelong, four bridges on Corio Quay Road are being upgraded, supporting Geelong Port to continue to function as one of Victoria’s main grain export shipping hubs.
Along the Great Ocean Road, bridges at Skenes Creek and Wye River will be upgraded, along with two structures on Lavers Hill-Cobden Road.

Later this year, projects on the Princes Highway west will begin at Allansford, Dennington, Weerite, Narrawong, Yambuk and Dartmoor, improving key routes that support wind-farm and plantation timber businesses.
In Gippsland, the Bunyip River Princes Highway Bridge westbound at Longwarry North has been upgraded, with strengthening works on the Nerrena Road Leongatha Tarwin River Bridge almost complete.
Along the Hume Freeway the Wodonga Creek and Pranjip Creek Longwood upgrades are also nearing completion.
Victorian Minister for Ports and Freight, Roads and Road Safety Melissa Horne said, “Stronger bridges mean a stronger freight network – allowing operators to carry more, more efficiently, and avoid costly detours.”
Works wil be delivered thanks to a joint investment by the Federal and State governments of more than $128 million, with the former committing a total of $56.6 million to the projects.
