Global Crude Steel Production Rises 1.7% in June 2026

Global crude steel production reached 155.7 million tonnes in June 2026, marking a 1.7% increase compared with the same month last year. The data covers 70 steel-producing countries representing approximately 98% of global output.

Africa recorded the strongest regional growth, with production rising 20% to 2.2 million tonnes. Türkiye also delivered a strong performance, increasing output by 14.7% to 3.3 million tonnes. North American production climbed 5%, while the European Union registered growth of 4.6%.China remained the world’s largest crude steel producer, manufacturing 83.7 million tonnes, up 0.4% year-on-year. India strengthened its position with output of 14.1 million tonnes, reflecting 4.5% growth. Vietnam posted the fastest increase among the top ten producers, with production surging 27.5% to 2.6 million tonnes.

However, the Middle East recorded a 13.4% decline, while output also fell across Russia, other CIS countries, Ukraine and South America. Despite June’s improvement, global production during January–June 2026 remained 0.7% below the previous year, highlighting an uneven recovery across international steel markets.
