High Flying Hangars has begun construction of new hangars to be built in two phases at the Frederick Municipal Airport in Maryland (KFDK), which serves the general and business aviation markets in the Maryland and northern Washington, DC, metro area.

In an 11.45-acre development, the first phase will include construction of 44 hangars, with the second phase to include about 34 hangars. The first phase will also include a Hangar Club clubhouse with restrooms, meeting room, kitchen, patio and sky deck for flight line viewing.

Demand for hangars in the Washington, DC, metropolitan area continues to exceed supply, officials say. The hangar construction will be the first for the airport in more than 20 years.

“As Maryland’s fastest-growing city, Frederick is a community on the move,” said Kenny Hinkes, High Flying Hangars CEO. “New businesses are choosing to locate here, new families are making Frederick their home, and the airport has an important role to play in supporting that growth. These hangars are another step in ensuring that the airport continues to serve the needs of a vibrant and expanding community.” Based in Albuquerque, New Mexico, High Flying Hangars was founded in 2020.
