Collins Aerospace has further expanded its footprint in India by opening a new Engineering Development and Test Center at the RTX campus in Bengaluru. The facility includes comprehensive testing equipment to ensure Collins’ aerospace systems meet safety and performance standards.

The facility will streamline product development and test and certify components locally, which Collins says will reduce turnaround times and bring aerospace technologies to the market faster.

Testing processes at the new facility will include simulation of extreme harsh operating conditions to address potential issues such as extreme temperatures, high altitudes, vibration and electromagnetic interference. Collins aims to improve product design at the facility by identifying adjustments in a more quick and effective way.

Clay Lindwall, senior vice president of engineering and technology, says the facility will strengthens Collins’ ability to deliver high-quality, mission-critical systems that meet the needs of customers in India and around the world. “The aerospace industry is evolving at an incredible pace, and this new center gives us the capability to support that evolution by making the testing and certification process faster and more efficient,” he adds.

Savyasachi Srinivas, Collins’ vice president of global engineering and technology centers, adds that the investment will bring advanced testing capabilities closer the company’s engineering and manufacturing operations. “The EDTC [Engineering Development and Test Center] will create highly-skilled jobs and support the ‘Make in India’ initiative,” he adds.

The EDTC will support Collins’ avionics, advanced structures, interiors, and power and controls businesses. In the future, the facility will expand to serve all RTX businesses, supporting a broader range of aerospace and defense applications and allowing for shared innovation across the company’s product portfolio.

Collins Aerospace has been investing in India for over two decades, with a growing footprint that now includes more than 6,000 employees in engineering, digital, manufacturing, operations and supply chain functions.
