GR Engineering Services has been awarded an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract with a subsidiary of Evolution Mining for the Northparkes coarse particle floatation project in New South Wales.

Located 300km west of Sydney, the upgrade of the existing plant is expected to provide greater copper recovery processing and improve energy efficiency of the site.

The agreement with Northparkes Mining Services is valued at $68 million, with early works already underway. The project is understood to be executed by the GR Engineering team based in Brisbane.

Commenting on the contract award, GR Engineering managing director Tony Patrizi said this follows on from a strong relationship between the two companies.

“GR Engineering is pleased to be working again with Evolution Mining, following the successful completion of the Mungari mill expansion project in 2025. GR Engineering’s well-established Brisbane office will execute the project, following on from their recent successful completion of a large gold EPC project,” he said in a statement.

“We see this contract award as a strong endorsement of GR Engineering’s proven process design record and EPC delivery capability.”

Northparkes is a well-established, long-life copper-gold mine. To realise the operation’s growth potential, Evolution has announced a number of developments, including a $545 million capital investment to further establish a long-life, low-cost bulk underground mining operation.

The coarse particle flotation project forms part of wider efforts to improve capacity and efficiency, at a total cost of around $75 million.

All of the upgrades are said to help Northparkes maintain cost competitiveness and preserve its position ahead of the global copper supply curve.
