Etu Energias has announced the successful completion of the Espadarte 7ST2 (ESP 7ST2) appraisal well in Block 2/05, located in the Lower Congo Basin, as officially confirmed by the National Agency for Petroleum, Gas and Biofuels (ANPG) on May 12, 2026.

This result represents a significant milestone for Etu Energias and for Angola’s oil industry, marking the first concrete outcome of the drilling campaign launched in July 2025 with the arrival of the SMS ESSA jack-up rig in Angolan waters.

More than just an operational achievement, it reflects the consolidation of the technical and strategic capabilities of Angola’s largest private oil and gas company.

Results reinforcing the potential of the Greater Espadarte Area

The ESP 7ST2 well delivered highly positive indicators for the development of the area:

The reservoir quality further reinforces the area’s potential, with average porosity of 18%, reaching up to 25% in certain zones, demonstrating favorable conditions for future development.

A Journey Built on Strategic Vision

The path to this achievement began with the extension of the Block 2/05 production period through 2040, formalized in 2022 through an amendment to the Production Sharing Agreement (PSA), which introduced new exploration obligations for the block.

The arrival of the SMS ESSA rig, jointly announced by ANPG and Etu Energias on July 2, 2025, marked the beginning of an integrated drilling campaign covering development wells, exploration wells, and workover operations.

During AOG 2025, Etu Energias Chief Executive Officer Edson R. dos Santos reaffirmed the company’s commitment to advancing exploration activities and strengthening national oil production.
