(WO) — The Railroad Commission of Texas (RRC) is expanding its Delivering Oil and Gas Efficiently (DOGE) Task Force initiative as the agency moves forward with efforts to improve operational efficiency, modernize regulatory processes and enhance service for the state's oil and gas industry.

Texas Railroad Commissioner Wayne Christian announced the next phase of the initiative following a year-long review of agency operations that included stakeholder outreach, internal evaluations and assessments of regulatory processes.

“Our goal is simple: make the RRC more efficient, responsive and transparent while maintaining safety, environmental stewardship and regulatory integrity,” Christian said. “Texas producers know better than anyone where government processes create unnecessary delays, and they’ve made their concerns clear.”

According to the commission, the expanded effort will focus on improving internal workflows, strengthening communication with industry stakeholders and advancing modernization initiatives across the agency.

Among the priorities identified by the RRC are continued upgrades to digital infrastructure, including enhanced online filing tools, a new single sign-on platform and development of a more integrated regulatory system intended to reduce duplicative submissions and improve data management.

The agency is also working to increase transparency through expanded use of its Open Data Portal, while improving data access, permit tracking and stakeholder communications.

Other initiatives include promoting greater consistency in inspections and enforcement activities across RRC districts through standardized guidance, training and coordination efforts.

The commission said it will continue efforts to improve orphan well and critical infrastructure programs through increased contractor competition, improved data quality and targeted inspections.

The DOGE Task Force was launched to identify opportunities to reduce inefficiencies and modernize agency operations while maintaining oversight of Texas' oil and gas sector. A second round of stakeholder meetings is planned in the coming months to gather additional industry feedback and evaluate progress on implementation efforts.

The Railroad Commission regulates the state's oil and gas industry, pipeline safety, natural gas utilities and surface mining activities.
