Gentari Renewables and Gamuda Energy have entered into an agreement to jointly develop about 1,500 MW of solar projects with battery energy storage systems in Malaysia. The projects will be implemented under Malaysia’s Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme (CRESS). The projects will supply electricity to hyperscale data centres in the country.
Additionally, the collaboration combines Gentari’s experience in large-scale renewable energy operations with Gamuda’s background in the engineering, construction and delivery of infrastructure projects. Demand from hyperscale data centres, driven by cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and digital services, is projected to exceed 5,000 MW by 2035. This project is being undertaken to address the growing requirement for reliable renewable energy supply to support such facilities.
Earlier this month, Gentari signed a power purchase agreement with Amazon Web Services for an 80 MW wind project in Tamil Nadu, expected to begin operations in mid-2027 and generate around 300,000 MWh of renewable energy annually.
