Gujarat has rolled out three major clean energy policies aimed at accelerating its transition to a low-carbon economy and positioning the State as a national hub for renewable energy. The new initiatives — the Integrated Renewable Energy Policy 2025, the Pumped Storage Project Policy, and the Green Hydrogen Policy — together target investments exceeding ₹5.75 lakh crore over the coming decade.
Under the Integrated Renewable Energy Policy, Gujarat has set an ambitious target of installing 100 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030. The policy covers a wide range of technologies, including ground-mounted and rooftop solar, floating solar, wind, hybrid wind-solar systems, and battery energy storage systems (BESS). A key highlight is the introduction of rooftop wind projects, allowing consumers to install small wind turbines of up to 50 kW on their premises. These projects will be eligible for virtual and group net metering, expanding access for users without adequate rooftop space.
The policy also promotes emerging renewable technologies such as geothermal, tidal and wave energy, and supports prototype wind turbine installations using advanced high-capacity designs. To strengthen the supply chain, manufacturers are encouraged to source low-carbon raw materials locally.
Complementing this, the Pumped Storage Project Policy aims to add 75 GWh of storage capacity by 2035, with an estimated investment of ₹75,000 crore, enhancing grid stability and renewable energy integration.
The Green Hydrogen Policy forms a central pillar of Gujarat’s clean energy roadmap. The State plans to attract over ₹5 lakh crore in investments, develop 3 million tonnes per annum of green hydrogen capacity, and create nearly six lakh jobs. This will be supported by 30 GW of electrolyser capacity and 75 GW of renewable power, positioning Gujarat as a major green hydrogen hub in India.

Renewable energy contributes significantly during daylight hours, but variability in solar and wind generation necessitates careful scheduling and backup arrangements. Grid operators are increasingly relying on forecasting tools to manage these fluctuations effectively.
Transmission and distribution systems face heightened operational stress during peak demand periods. Maintaining network reliability, preventing outages, and managing congestion have become key priorities for utilities and system operators.
The surge in demand underscores the importance of adequate fuel availability, especially coal, to ensure uninterrupted power supply. Efficient fuel logistics and inventory management remain critical during periods of high consumption.
Overall, the winter-driven increase in peak power demand to 236 GW highlights the evolving nature of India’s electricity consumption. Mpuvnl Awards 4.01 Gw In 4.3 Gw Solar Auction Under Pm Kusum Component CMadhya Pradesh Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (MPUVNL) has awarded its 4.3 GW solar power auction conducted under Component C of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (PM KUSUM) scheme.
Of the total capacity offered, 4.01 GW has been awarded to 82 companies. Dilip Buildcon emerged as the largest bidder, securing 1,363.54 MW at a tariff of Rs 2.73 per kWh, followed by Sunbridge Solar Power with 471.29 MW at Rs 2.75 per kWh. Other key winners include Landsmill Industries with 422.02 MW at Rs 2.70 per kWh, Purshotam Profiles with 173.15 MW at Rs 2.69 per kWh and Ceigall India with 130 MW at Rs 2.85 per kWh while the remaining bidders together secured 1,459.25 MW. As per the tender guidelines, the scope of work includes design, engineering, construction, and commissioning of the solar projects, along with substation bay and switchgear works, and provision of operations and maintenance services for a period of 25 years.

This ensures consistent, high-quality output across its entire product portfolio, including advanced M10 and G12 high-wattage module formats.

Massachusetts Awards 1.3 Gw In First Large-Scale Energy Storage TenderFrom ESS News
The Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources (DOER) has announced the winners of its first storage procurement, also called a Section 83E energy storage solicitation. The state selected four large-scale projects totaling 1,268 MW, as it aims to reach a legislative demanded 5,000 MW of operational storage capacity by July, 2030.
The winning projects include Jupiter Power’s Trimount ESS, set to be situated at a former 100-year-old Exxon oil terminal in Everett. The fossil fuel legacy infrastructure will become a wider hub for clean energy, and in doing so, the project is expected to defer some $2.2 billion in regional transmission upgrades.

Gujarat Notifies Integrated Renewable Energy Policy 2025, Targets Over 100 Gw Re Capacity By 2030The Government of Gujarat has unveiled the Gujarat Integrated Renewable Energy Policy 2025, which aims to increase the state’s renewable capacity from the current 41 GW to over 100 GW by 2030, contributing 63 percent of its total installed capacity from renewables and over 16 percent of the nation's total RE installed capacity.
The policy supersedes the 2023 RE policy and will remain in force until December 31, 2030, with benefits and incentives available to eligible projects for up to 25 years from commissioning.
Framed by the Energy & Petrochemicals Department, the policy integrates solar, wind, hybrid and storage-linked renewable development under a single umbrella, with a strong push for next-generation technologies and grid-ready green infrastructure.
The State has laid out milestone-based capacity aspirations, including over 150 GW by 2035 and 300 GW by 2047, while committing to reducing carbon intensity by over 45 percent by 2030 and supporting India’s Net Zero trajectory to 2070. The policy also aims to secure more than 50 percent of total energy consumption from non-fossil fuel resources by 2030.
The new RE policy builds on Gujarat’s sharp renewables trajectory — from 0.16 GW in 2002 to over 41 GW in 2025 — alongside flagship projects such as Khavda Hybrid Park, Charanka and Dholera solar parks, and leadership in rooftop solar deployment under PM-Surya Ghar.
The policy covers a wide spectrum of project categories, including ground-mounted and rooftop solar, wind and wind-solar hybrid projects, rooftop wind and hybrid systems, floating solar, standalone and co-located battery energy storage systems (BESS), off-grid and emerging RE technologies such as BIPV, CST, RIPV, Agri-PV, ocean and geothermal etc. It further added that off-grid projects are eligible, subject to State Nodal Agency procedures, while RE plants supplying power for green hydrogen/ammonia are governed separately.
The policy applies to all RE projects registered and commissioned during the operative window up to December 31, 2030. Developers and entities, including individuals, companies and associations, may set up projects with or without BESS for captive consumption, third-party sale, or sale to distribution licensees in line with the Electricity Act and policy provisions.
There is no capacity restriction on RE projects for captive or third-party supply relative to consumer contracted demand, with AC capacity treated as installed capacity for policy purposes. It further noted that projects already sanctioned under the 2023 policy may continue within stipulated timelines before transitioning to the new framework.
Ground-mounted solar projects may be located inside or outside solar parks, on government or private land, with facilitation support through the State Nodal Agency for accessing available government land parcels. The minimum capacity of an RE park shall be 50 MW. Distribution licensees may procure power from such projects under defined procurement provisions of the policy. Wheeling for captive or third-party sale is permitted on payment of applicable charges, with energy settlement governed by policy banking and settlement clauses and relevant GERC regulations.
Rooftop solar may operate under net or gross metering as per GERC regulations, with consumers eligible to avail benefits under Central and State schemes such as PM-Surya Ghar.
Recognising the pivotal role of storage in addressing intermittency and enabling round-the-clock renewable supply, the policy strongly promotes both integrated and independent BESS deployment. The State also intends to develop Green Energy Corridors to strengthen transmission capacity, minimise curtailment, and support higher RE penetration.
The policy further encourages demonstration-based RE+BESS projects, including green data storage/processing centres, and places strategic emphasis on workforce development through industry–academia collaboration.
With resource mapping indicating significant solar-wind hybrid potential across Gujarat, the policy prioritises both new hybrid project development and hybridisation of existing plants to optimise land use, transmission infrastructure and power-supply stability.
The Gujarat Integrated Renewable Energy Policy 2025 marks a decisive consolidation of the State’s clean-energy architecture, combining expansion targets, grid-integration planning, investment facilitation and technology-forward incentives under a unified governance framework.

Additionally, some other winners, their secured capacities and tariffs include Landsmill Industries (422.02 MW, Rs 2.7 per kWh), Purshotam Profiles (173.15 MW, Rs 2.69 per kWh), and Ceigall India (130 MW, Rs 2.850 per kWh). The remaining winners secured a total capacity of 1,459.25 MW.
According to the tender guidelines, the scope of work covers the design, engineering, construction, and commissioning of the facilities. It also includes the construction of bays and associated switchgear at the substations. The scope also covers providing 25 year operations and maintenance services.

On.Energy Signs 5 Gw Transformer DealUSA: ON.Energy, a system integrator and project developer, has announced a 5 GW transformer supply agreement with Prolec GE for data centre and renewable energy applications in the United States.
The deal will support the rapid deployment of ON.Energy’s AI-based uninterruptible power supply (UPS) technology across data centre campuses beginning in 2026. Under the agreement, Prolec GE will manufacture and deliver three-phase pad-mount transformers specifically designed for ON.Energy’s medium-voltage systems.
These transformers will be installed at grid-connected and fully behind-the-meter AI data centres, helping to stabilise AI workloads, regulate ramp rates, and protect both the data centres and the electrical grid from voltage fluctuations.
Transformer supply chains have been under pressure for some time. At the 2023 RE+ trade show, EPC contractors reported lead times increasing from 12 months to as much as 32–36 months, including procurement cycles. While the situation has eased slightly, equipment availability continues to be a key constraint for energy and infrastructure projects.
ON.Energy’s agreement with Prolec GE ensures access to high-quality transformers to meet growing demand and mitigate delays in critical deployments.
Earlier in January, ON.Energy secured a $77.6 M construction credit facility with Pathward, NA, and BridgePeak Energy Capital to develop its 160 MWh Palo de Agua BESS portfolio. The portfolio, located across Texas, includes projects such as Poplar, Ft. Stockton, Mesquite, North Pecos, Colorado, Colorado 1, Andrews, Fathead 1, Fathead 2, and Badger BESS, each with a capacity of 9.9 MW / 20 MWh.
This collaboration underscores ON.Energy’s commitment to supporting reliable AI-driven infrastructure and expanding renewable and energy storage solutions across the US.

India To Require 230 Gwh Of Energy Storage By 2030 To Stabilise Grid With 254 Gw Renewables – EqIn Short : As India’s renewable energy capacity reaches 254 GW, the country will require nearly 230 GWh of energy storage by 2030 to maintain grid stability. Large-scale battery storage, pumped hydro, and hybrid solutions will play a critical role in balancing intermittency, ensuring reliable power supply, and supporting India’s transition toward a resilient, renewables-dominated power system.
In Detail :India’s rapid expansion of renewable energy capacity has reached a significant milestone, with installed renewables touching 254 GW. While this growth strengthens the country’s clean energy credentials, it also presents new challenges for grid stability due to the variable and intermittent nature of solar and wind power generation.
To manage these challenges, India will need approximately 230 GWh of energy storage capacity by 2030. Storage systems are essential for balancing supply and demand, smoothing fluctuations in renewable generation, and ensuring uninterrupted electricity availability during peak demand and low-generation periods.
Battery energy storage systems are expected to play a central role in meeting this requirement, particularly for short-duration and fast-response applications. Lithium-ion batteries, along with emerging chemistries, are being increasingly deployed to support frequency regulation, peak shaving, and renewable integration at both utility and distribution levels.
Pumped hydro storage will continue to be a key contributor to long-duration energy storage needs. With its ability to store large volumes of energy for extended periods, pumped hydro offers a cost-effective solution for managing daily and seasonal variations in renewable generation while supporting grid reliability.
Hybrid renewable projects combining solar, wind, and storage are also gaining traction as a means to deliver firm and dispatchable power. These configurations reduce dependence on conventional thermal generation and help ensure round-the-clock renewable energy supply to utilities and large consumers.
The scale-up of energy storage will require supportive policy frameworks, market mechanisms, and regulatory clarity. Long-term contracts, viability gap funding, and dedicated storage procurement tenders are expected to play a vital role in accelerating deployment and attracting private investment.
Grid infrastructure upgrades, including advanced forecasting tools, digital grid management systems, and flexible transmission networks, will complement storage deployment. Together, these measures will enhance the grid’s ability to absorb higher shares of renewable energy without compromising reliability.

Dilip Buildcon Leads 82 Winners Of 4.01 Gw Madhya Pradesh Solar Auction Under Pm KusumAs many as 82 companies have won capacities in Madhya Pradesh Urja Vikas Nigam Limited’s (MPUVNL) large-scale solar power auction held under Component C of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (PM KUSUM) scheme. The auction was floated for a total capacity of 4.3 GW, out of which 4.01 GW was finally awarded. The projects will be developed under the feeder solarization segment, also known as the Surya Mitra Krishi Solarization program, aimed at supplying clean power to agricultural feeders across Madhya Pradesh.
Dilip Buildcon Limited emerged as the biggest winner in the auction, securing a cumulative capacity of 1,363.54 MW. The company quoted tariffs ranging from ₹2.74 per kWh to ₹2.79 per kWh. Following the auction, Dilip Buildcon received a Letter of Award from MPUVNL for 1,363.55 MW AC capacity under the Non-DCR category. The projects will involve setting up grid-connected solar PV power plants, with the electricity generated to be sold to Madhya Pradesh Power Management Company Limited for a period of 25 years. The company plans to execute the projects through multiple special-purpose vehicles. Dilip Buildcon also stated that the award provides it with an EPC business opportunity valued at around ₹4,900 crore, excluding GST, which will be executed over the next 18 months.
Sunbridge Solar Power was another major winner, securing a total capacity of 471.29 MW at tariffs ranging between ₹2.75 per kWh and ₹2.85 per kWh. Landsmill Industries won 422.02 MW, quoting tariffs between ₹2.70 per kWh and ₹2.75 per kWh. Purshotam Profiles secured 173.15 MW, with tariffs ranging from ₹2.69 per kWh to ₹2.84 per kWh. Ceigall India won a cumulative capacity of 130 MW at a tariff of ₹2.85 per kWh. The remaining 77 companies together secured 1,459.25 MW, with tariffs ranging from ₹2.68 per kWh to ₹2.78 per kWh. Neutron Sunray, also known as Neutron Solar, quoted the lowest tariff in the auction.
Ceigall India Limited, which is among the fast-growing EPC players in the country, has also received a Letter of Award from MPUVNL for its 130 MW AC capacity under PM KUSUM-C. The project will be implemented across two districts in Madhya Pradesh and includes design, engineering, procurement, construction, testing, commissioning, and operation of the solar power plants. The EPC contract is valued at around ₹550 crore, including GST. The execution period is 18 months, followed by a 25-year operational phase backed by a long-term power purchase agreement starting from the scheduled commercial operation date.
The auction highlights strong participation from domestic developers and EPC companies and reflects continued interest in feeder-level solarization projects. The awarded capacities are expected to support a reliable daytime power supply for agriculture while reducing dependence on conventional energy sources and lowering emissions in the state.

European Energy Secures Approval For 1.1 Gw Of Solar In AustraliaFrom pv magazine Australia
European Energy said its 1.1 GW Upper Calliope solar project has received planning approval from the Gladstone Regional Council, opening the way for the fully contracted development to move into final design, grid connection processes and construction planning.
With construction targeted for 2026, the Upper Calliope Solar Farm is expected to be the biggest in the National Electricity Market (NEM), spanning a 2,700-hectare site about 50 kilometres southwest of Gladstone and producing 2.8 TWh of clean energy per year – enough to meet about 5% of Queensland’s current demand.
European Energy Vice President and Australia Manager Catriona McLeod said the council’s decision positions the project as a permitted, large-scale solar asset in a key industrial energy region.
“With planning approval now in place, we can move ahead with the Upper Calliope project, one of the largest projects European Energy has undertaken to date,” she said. “It’s an exciting and important step and our experienced team will now move on to the next phase of development.”
With both planning and federal environmental approvals in place, McLeod said the project has progressed into an “advanced stage” of development with remaining steps including grid connection finalisation, procurement and final investment decisions.
The Upper Calliope project is supported by a 25-year power purchase agreement with the global mining and materials company Rio Tinto, under which the solar farm’s full output is contracted. Electricity generated by the solar farm is intended to supply Rio’s industrial operations in Queensland, including aluminium smelting and alumina refining in the Gladstone region.
Thorvald Spanggaard, Executive Vice President and head of project development at European Energy, said the long-term offtake agreement provides revenue visibility and underpins the project’s commercial structure while planning approval reduces execution risk.
“Approval significantly reduces development risk and allows the team to progress with final design and procurement decisions,” he said.
“Together with the long-term contracted offtake, the project now represents a permitted, utility-scale solar asset with defined revenue characteristics – one of the largest of its kind.”
The Upper Calliope Solar Farm is part of European Energy’s rapidly growing pipeline of projects in Australia, which now totals more than 5 GW of renewable energy capacity under development.
The company earlier this year completed its first PV project in the country with the commissioning of the 58 MW Mokoan Solar Farm in Victoria and earlier this month announced that all 170,044 panels had been mounted at the Lancaster Solar Farm being built in northern Victoria.
The 106 MW PV facility will now move into the final stages of construction, commissioning, and testing, while construction of the 31 MW Mulwala Solar Farm in New South Wales is progressing.
Other projects in European Energy’s development pipeline include the 1 GW Sawpit and 500 MW Leichardt solar farms in Queensland, and the 100 MW Winton North solar project in Victoria.
