The Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Limited (KREDL) has invited bids to select developers for setting up a 200 MW/400 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) at Huliyurdurga in Karnataka. The project will be developed under the build-own-operate model. The selected project will be eligible for central financial assistance in the form of viability gap funding.

According to the tender guidelines, the selected developer will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining the BESS and connecting it to the Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited substation at Kushtagi Huliyurdurga. The energy required for charging the BESS will be supplied by the discoms, which will also manage the charging and discharging schedules on an “on demand” basis. Furthermore, the bidders are required to submit an earnest money deposit of Rs 5,00,000 per MW and a bid processing fee of Rs 20,000 per MW.

Earlier, in April 2026, KREDL and the University of New South Wales entered into an MoU to support the transition towards clean and renewable energy. The MoU outlined the key areas of cooperation, including facilitating bilateral exchange opportunities and establishing a renewable energy startup incubator in Karnataka.
