The Ministry of Power (MoP) and the Ministry of Atomic Energy (MoAE) jointly reviewed the roadmap for achieving the 100 GW nuclear energy mission.
The mission aims to significantly expand India’s clean energy capacity and supporting the country’s net zero targets. The plan targets increasing nuclear capacity from the current 8.8 GW to 22 GW by 2032, with 14 GW to come from ongoing and upcoming projects. The ministries discussed measures to streamline regulatory clearances, standardise documentation, optimise processing timelines, synchronise licences, and enhance technical capacity. The meeting also highlighted the government’s decision to open the nuclear sector to private sector participation, with strong interest reported in the Bharat Small Modular Reactor programme.
