The U S administration intends to withdraw federal approval for US Wind’s 2 GW offshore wind project off the coast of Maryland, according to a filing submitted to the U.S. District Court in Delaware. In the filing, Department of Justice attorneys asked the court to pause a lawsuit challenging the Interior Department's prior approval of the project. They stated that the agency plans to vacate its approval of the construction and operations plan by September 12.

US Wind is jointly owned by funds managed by Apollo Global Management, a U.S. investment firm, and Renexia SpA, a subsidiary of Italy’s Toto Holding SpA. Construction was originally slated to begin in 2026, following federal approval granted in September 2024 by the Biden administration.

Earlier in August 2025, the U.S. Department of the Interior also ordered Ørsted to suspend all work on its 704 MW Revolution Wind project off the coast of Rhode Island, which is currently 80% complete. The project remains on hold pending a regulatory review by the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM).
