Metro de Madrid has halted train services on line 3 between Sol and Moncloa from Friday 6th to Sunday 8th March due to a drainage issue beneath Plaza de España station.
Recent heavy rains softened the ground, necessitating the demolition of the concrete slab and reconstruction of both the subsoil and the drainage setup, as first reported by El Economista this morning.
During the three-day shutdown, trains will run normally on the rest of the line, with a special free replacement bus service operating between Moncloa and Callao on the same timetable as the Tube.
Users are also advised to use interchanges with other lines and EMT bus routes covering the same stretch.
The announcement has sparked a political spat between the Community of Madrid and the central government. The regional government blames surging Tube demand on frequent Cercanías disruptions, while Renfe slams the regional executive’s lack of transparency over the fault’s root cause.
