German state railway DB has announced that it will invest EUR 4 billion per year in the modernisation of railway stations by 2030. According to DB CEO Evelyn Palla, the total investment over the next five years will amount to more than EUR 20 billion. In 2026, DB will modernise more than 1,000 stations. By 2030, 710 stations across the country will have undergone major refurbishment, including 130 in 2026. A key focus is on station buildings. In addition, DB is allocating EUR 50 million for an emergency programme on safety and cleanliness. This includes more intensive cleaning, additional security staff at selected locations, and the expansion of CCTV and video technology in coordination with the Federal Police. Mobile teams of tradespeople will carry out minor repairs in a coordinated and timely manner.
