Government Allocates Funding For Two Railway Projects In Lombardy

The Italian government has allocated EUR 591.6 million to eight road and railway projects under the Olympic action plan, including two railway projects, in Lombardy. Lombardy will receive EUR 287.6 million, whilst Veneto will receive EUR 304 million. The total investment for all projects amounts to more than EUR 1.65 billion and will be covered by state funds and existing sources of financing. A total of EUR 171 million has been earmarked for the two railway projects in Lombardy. Of this, EUR 40.4 million comes from the investment fund, whilst the remainder had already been secured. For the removal of level crossings on the Milan – Tirano line, with a total project value of EUR 66 million, EUR 31.5 million will be provided via the investment fund. The modernisation of the Busto Arsizio, Gallarate and Cardano railway junctions has a budget of EUR 105 million. Of this, EUR 8.9 million comes from the investment fund, with more than EUR 56 million coming from funds already allocated. Plans include infrastructure upgrades to increase capacity, reduce operational conflicts between passenger and freight trains, and improve connections along the Rho – Gallarate corridor and to Malpensa Airport.
