Through a new cooperation, Stadler and ebblo Western Europe (formerly Trapeze DACH) are combining their expertise in display hardware and mobility software. This was just announced during this week’s IT-TRANS event in Karlsruhe. The aim of the partnership is the technical and system integration of display hardware and operations control systems to create digital passenger information solutions for public transport.

Both companies have entered into a non-exclusive cooperation in the field of TFT displays and passenger information systems. Stadler’s displays can be integrated into ebblo’s “Intermodal Transport Control Systems” (ITCS). These operations control systems monitor vehicles in real time and enable communication between vehicles and control centers, among other functions. Since comprehensive and accurate passenger information is a core component of any ITCS, the solutions of both companies complement each other to form an integrated overall system. The result is an integrated infrastructure designed to meet current and future operational and information requirements.

The Passenger Information division of Stadler Signalling develops and manufactures the MOFIS® Passenger Information Monitor (PIM) in Braunschweig, Germany. The system is specifically designed for outdoor use and for operation under all environmental conditions, including direct sunlight. The PIM is based on TFT (Thin-Film Transistor) technology and represents an advancement of conventional LCD screens. Railway operators use these displays to provide passenger information and broadcast their own content.

The ebblo brand represents forward-looking solutions in the field of modern, connected and passenger-oriented mobility. The company operates in the areas of operations control systems, passenger information, onboard systems and business intelligence, and focuses on new technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communication and cloud-based architectures. These technologies enhance core functions including operations management, passenger information, onboard systems and business intelligence, while promoting interoperability through standardized interfaces.

By visualizing real-time data on departures, delays and carriage occupancy levels, passengers are supported in planning their journeys. Access to up-to-date information, such as delay notifications, improves transparency and convenience. The information also contributes to improved passenger distribution along platforms and boarding areas.

Additional features such as text-to-speech, on-demand announcements, integrated loudspeakers, occupancy displays, infotainment functions, and LTE and 5G connectivity significantly broaden the range of applications. This also creates added value for passengers, for example by enabling the straightforward integration of accessibility features for visually impaired travelers.

By combining hardware and software solutions, Stadler Signalling and ebblo are creating an integrated and future-proof solution for public transport. The cooperation addresses transport providers in scheduled and on-demand services, particularly bus and tram operators. Both current and future requirements in the fields of electromobility and autonomous mobility are supported.
