Introduction:

Wabtec Corporation has secured multiple contracts to supply more than 680 pantographs for several major commuter rail and metro projects across India. The advanced systems will enhance fleet availability and support reliable, efficient, and sustainable rail operations across the country’s rapidly expanding electrified transport network.

The contracts cover key urban and national rail programs including Chennai Metro Phase-2, Mumbai Metro Lines-4, 5, and 6, as well as Indian Railways’ MEMU (Mainline Electric Multiple Unit) and Vande Bharat Sleeper train programs. These projects represent significant investments in modern rail mobility and highlight the growing demand for high-performance power collection technologies.

Under the agreement, Wabtec will manufacture the pantograph systems at its state-of-the-art Transit facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in late 2026, supporting upcoming fleet expansions and rolling stock deployments across the projects.
