Amtrak has awarded the contract for the replacement of a pair of bridges in a complex location on the USA’s North East Corridor (NEC) railway.
A JV consisting of Skanska, Walsh & Herzog has been selected to replace two bridges in New Jersey, north east USA.
And Amtrak has awarded a second contract for pre-construction support services to a JV of AECOM and STV.
It will be delivered under a construction manager at-risk (CMAR) approach.
Amtrak owns and operates the 1907-built Sawtooth Bridges, which carry more than 400 trains each day. But access to the two-mile work corridor has to be coordinated with several different rights of way owners, including NJ Transit, Amtrak, PATH, Conrail and others.
The replacement project will double capacity, and allow the lifting of a speed restriction. It will see the construction of three new bridges.
