stadiumVietnam might soon have the largest stadium in the world. The proposed venue, which has a planned capacity of 135,000, is being built in the southern part of Hanoi. If completed as planned, it would surpass all existing stadiums in terms of capacity. Development has advanced at a rapid pace. After the project became public in late 2025, a groundbreaking ceremony was held on 19 December 2025. The construction of the stadium is currently scheduled for completion in 2028.
The proposed stadium named Sân vận động Trống Đồng combines a futuristic architectural approach with strong references to the Vietnamese culture. The design is inspired by traditional bronze drums, while the façade incorporates distinctive bird motifs. The stadium will probably have several ambitious technical features. The venue is expected to feature the largest retractable roof in the world, along with a retractable pitch system that would allow the playing surface to be replaced or removed within several hours.
