The 2027 Africa Cup of Nations will probably take place in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. Several stadiums are being built for the African championship for national football teams. Three 2027 Africa Cup of Nations venues will probably be Ugandan venues. The Mandela National Stadium in Kampala was chosen as one of the stadiums for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. The venue was renovated in the 2020s. It has a capacity of 38,000. The stadium became the largest sports venue by capacity in Uganda.
The Akii-Bua Stadium in Lira and the Hoima National Stadium in Hoima will probably be the two other Ugandan Africa Cup of Nations venues in 2027. The construction of both stadiums started in 2024. The expected capacity of the Akii-Bua Stadium is 20,000. The future venue is named after John Akii-Bua, a former Ugandan hurdler. He won an Olympic gold medal in the German city of Munich in 1972. The expected capacity of the Hoima National Stadium is 20,000. It will probably be ready in 2025. The Akii-Bua Stadium will probably be ready two years later.
