Construction of Hoima Stadium is accelerating and the local community is looking forward to the new opportunities the project will bring. The commencement of work marks an important step in Uganda's preparations to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which it will co-host with Kenya and Tanzania.

Construction has begun on Hoima Stadium, which is designed to hold 20 000 spectators and serve as a multi-purpose sports facility. Work started after a contract was signed between the Government of Uganda and Turkish company M/S SUMMA on June 7, 2024. The construction of the stadium is a key part of the preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. The project is expected to be completed by December 2025, giving enough time to test the facility before the big event.
There are still three years to go until AFCON 2027, although there is nothing to look forward to on the construction sites in Hioma. However, when it comes to betting on football or cricket, there is no need to wait. Especially when the site 10bet constantly giving better odds to South African players and offers easy payments.
Hoima Stadium is part of Uganda's broader strategy to develop the country's sports infrastructure. This investment will not only enhance the prestige of Hoima town, but also strengthen Uganda's position on the international stage as a capable organiser of major sporting events.
The stadium project brings numerous benefits to the people of Hoima and the surrounding area. The city's deputy mayor, Silvia Nalumaga, stressed that the start of work is a long-awaited moment for the community. The construction of the long-awaited Hoima stadium has begun and we have already held two meetings with the contractor - informed Nalumaga, while expressing the hope that residents will benefit from the investment.
The construction of the stadium will open up new prospects for the local community. The project will generate jobs, both during the construction phase and later when the stadium becomes operational. City authorities and government representatives hope that the investment will be a catalyst for Hoim's economic development, benefiting both employment and business development.
The construction of the Hoima stadium is supported by the Government of Uganda, which has provided the necessary funding through the Ministry of Education and Sports. Pius Wakabi Rujumba, member of parliament for Bugahya district, revealed that 152 billion Uganda shillings has been allocated for the project in the budget for the 2024/2025 financial year (about $41 million). This amount represents almost 30 per cent of the total cost of the project, which is estimated to be close to 500 billion shillings ($135 million).
Wakabi stressed that such a large investment will not only contribute to the development of sports infrastructure, but will also have a positive impact on the local economy. He also called on the contractor, M/S SUMMA, to involve local people, especially unemployed youth from the Bunyoro region, in the project.
The 2027 Africa Cup of Nations is planned in three different countries, Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania. The Hoima stadium is the only one that needs to be built from scratch. Most stadiums serve the people now. Such examples are Moi International Stadium in Nairobi or Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
