The new era of the iconic WACA Ground is officially set to begin, with WA Cricket confirming today that the redeveloped 10,000-capacity stadium will officially open its doors to the public on 1 March 2026.
Just five days later, the venue will step back onto the international stage, hosting the Women’s Test between Australia and India from 6-9 March. It marks the WACA’s return as a world-class cricket venue and completes the significant redevelopment of the Western Australian venue.
The $164.5 million WACA Ground Improvement Project forms a major component of the $1.7 billion Perth City Deal, funded by the Federal and WA Governments, City of Perth, Cricket Australia, and the WA Cricket Foundation, with additional support from Lotterywest.
The upgrade has transformed the historic East Perth site into a modern 10,000-seat multi-sport and community venue, while retaining its ICC accreditation and rich cricketing heritage.
Key sporting facilities include:
Much of the stadium’s history will remain visible, with the Lillee-Marsh Stand, Players’ Pavilion and South West Pavilion retained for their remaining lifespan.
The Inverarity and Prindiville Stands have been demolished to make way for a new northern structure housing WA Cricket administration and grandstand seating. To be known as The Pavilion, the new facility overlooks the WACA Ground and offers a unique combination of sport, wellness, and leisure experiences for the local community and visitors alike.
The project has aimed to reimagine the WACA as more than just a cricket venue. It will serve as a year-round community hub, integrating sport, culture, health, and events into the East Perth precinct.
The new WACA Ground is expected to be one of the most inclusive and community-focused sports venues in Australia.
