Cpk Invites Bids For Bhs At New Poland Airport

Centralny Port Komunikacyjny (CPK) has announced an invitation for bids for the design, delivery, installation and full commission of a new Baggage Handling System (BHS) for Poland’s new airport.

Thus far, Vanderlande Industries, Siemens Logistics, and BEUMER Group Poland have each been personally invited to submit offers for the contract, with 60 days remaining to present their bids.

The proposed Baggage Handling System at the new airport is set to span roughly 80,000 square metres within the terminal building and include more than 13km of conveyor belts, with the basis for the system coming courtesy of Individual Carrier System (ICS) technology, allowing for the transportation of luggage in dedicated trays.

The project includes the development of the detailed design, delivery, and installation of equipment, followed by system commissioning, testing, and ongoing maintenance.

Each potential contractor for the project was subject to a rigorous verification process, which took into account experience and previous BHS system deliveries for airports with a similar capacity (30 million passengers per year within the last 25 years).

Architectural plans for the new passenger terminal, railway and associated bus stations are currently nearing finalisation, with civil engineering plans for runways, taxiways and supporting facilities (including the air traffic control tower and maintenance base) now underway.

Considerations are being taken to address & avoid current limitations of Warsaw’s Chopin Airport, which, according to CPK, is nearing capacity, with its own long-term baggage throughput limited to 1,800 items for departures and 2,200 for arrivals.

The new airport is scheduled to open in 2032 and also includes a high-speed rail network.
