FANUC America has announced plans to invest US$90 million to acquire property and construct a new 840,000‑sq.-ft. facility in Michigan to support the potential expansion of its U.S.-based robot manufacturing operations.

According to the company, the facility will provide production‑ready space to expand existing manufacturing capabilities for robots and is targeted for completion in late 2027. The project is expected to add approximately 225 jobs and expand FANUC America’s engineering and advanced manufacturing capacity to meet growing demand for automation solutions across North America, including physical AI, virtual commissioning and digital‑twin technologies.

“This investment builds on FANUC America’s Michigan manufacturing footprint, which has included producing robots for paint application domestically for more than four decades,” said Mike Cicco, president and CEO of FANUC America, in a press release. “By expanding its U.S. presence, FANUC America will strengthen domestic manufacturing, improve responsiveness to customer needs, and support industries that rely on automation to stay competitive.”

The company said the announcement brings FANUC America’s total U.S. investment since 2019 to nearly US$300 million, increasing its footprint to about 3 million sq. ft. and creating more than 700 jobs.

Cicco also pointed to workforce development as part of the company’s broader manufacturing strategy. “FANUC America is committed to supporting U.S. reindustrialization by delivering state‑of‑the‑art automation technologies to customers and broadening access to advanced manufacturing workplace training services,” he said. The company noted that its expanded FANUC Academy, scheduled to open later this year in Auburn Hills, Mich., will focus on robotics and automation skills training.
