Centrus Energy has appointed Geiger Brothers as the construction contractor for its uranium enrichment plant expansion in Piketon, Ohio, US.

This initiative aims to deploy additional centrifuges to enhance production capacity for low-enriched uranium (LEU) and high-assay, low-enriched uranium (HALEU).

Fluor Corporation, serving as the project’s engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor, is overseeing engineering, design, management and supply chain activities.

Geiger Brothers will manage the on-site construction tasks in collaboration with Fluor and Centrus’ existing teams.

Centrus president and CEO Amir Vexler said: “Geiger Brothers brings more than a century of experience and a strong Ohio workforce to our project. Their deep expertise in complex industrial construction, including work across the energy and nuclear sectors, makes them an ideal partner as we scale up production capacity.

“This partnership is another example of our commitment to bring in lead times and reduce unit costs for our project. With Fluor’s global EPC leadership and Geiger’s local capabilities, we are assembling a best‑in‑class team to deliver this expansion safely, efficiently and on schedule.”

Geiger Brothers previously contributed to Centrus’ HALEU cascade deployment and the earlier LEU demonstration cascade that concluded in 2013.

The latest expansion work focuses on installing several AC100M centrifuges at the American Centrifuge Plant, aiming to restore large-scale uranium enrichment capabilities using domestic technology.

This initiative aligns with Centrus’ strategy to meet its $2.3bn LEU commercial backlog and introduce a minimum of 12 tonnes per year of HALEU production.

Centrifuge manufacturing for the expansion began in December 2025 at Centrus’ facility in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

Geiger Brothers president and chief financial officer Erik Massie said: “Our roots are in Ohio, and we look forward to contributing to a project that strengthens US energy security, creates local jobs and bolsters domestic manufacturing.”
