Freyr Energy has partnered with Allu Cinemas to commission a 727 kW rooftop solar power system at the Allu Cinemas facility in Kokapet (Narsingi), Hyderabad, marking one of the largest solar installations for a cinema complex in the region.

The project, developed with an investment of ₹2.27 crore, is expected to meet nearly 60% of the cinema’s overall energy requirements, significantly reducing dependence on conventional grid electricity and supporting the growing adoption of renewable energy across commercial entertainment infrastructure.

According to the companies, the solar installation is projected to reduce annual electricity expenses from nearly ₹52 lakh to around ₹5 lakh, resulting in estimated yearly savings of ₹77–80 lakh. The project also highlights the increasing financial and operational benefits of solar adoption for energy-intensive commercial facilities such as multiplexes and cinema complexes.

The rooftop solar system is expected to help reduce nearly 750 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually, contributing to the facility’s long-term sustainability goals. The installation has also been equipped with an automated high-pressure sprinkler cleaning system designed to maintain solar panel efficiency and optimise performance with minimal manual intervention.

Commenting on the development, Radhika Choudary said movie theatres are highly energy-intensive spaces, and solar adoption offers a strategic opportunity to reduce operational costs while improving energy sustainability.

Allu Aravind said the solarisation initiative represents a practical step towards integrating clean energy into cinema operations while enhancing long-term operational efficiency and reducing electricity consumption.

The collaboration between Freyr Energy and Allu Cinemas is expected to set a benchmark for sustainable entertainment infrastructure in Hyderabad, reflecting the broader transition of commercial establishments toward clean energy solutions.
