Meridiam

, a French investment company, and

Craftskills Energy

, a Kenyan renewables developer, have officially launched their

Siruai Wind and Storage project

, which combines

100 MW of wind capacity with a 50 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS)

in Kenya (Meridiam press release, 11/05/2026). Located in Kajiado County south of Nairobi and adjacent to the Kipeto wind park, the project is backed by an investment of more than EUR200m.

Kenya aims to achieve

100% clean energy in its electricity mix by 2030

. Renewables represented 92% of the power mix in 2024 (43% geothermal, 28% hydropower, 14% wind, 4% solar, and 3% biomass); the remainder comes from oil (8%). The share of geothermal, wind, and solar has increased by 40 points since 2010 to 61% thanks to the development of geothermal (+23 pp).
